24.01.2022 Hi everyone! We've had quite a few new people join this page in the past few weeks so I thought I would re-introduce myself. . Im Sarah, owner at Sarah Macaulay Studio. I live with my husband and 10 year old son in Sydneys Northern Beaches area and we have two over-friendly cats who like to frequent the studio (and get small black hairs into the paint!). . After years of experimenting with furniture painting and learning from some talented teachers, I formalised the busines...s at the beginning of 2019. It feels so good to be back working with my hands again. I studied Fine Arts for my degree and spent happy years working in auction houses in London before the need to support myself (in a rather expensive city!) led me into the world of marketing and communications and I stayed there for many years. . I now teach furniture renovation and chalk painting workshops in my home studio and at Northern Beaches College. I absolutely love helping people connect with their creativity and learn a practical new skill. Its really fun to hear that you have caught the painting bug and I get such a buzz when you send me pictures of what you are painting. Its truly inspiring! . 21.01.2022 Teamwork at its finest! Everyone enjoyed helping Carol transform her table in our workshop yesterday. (so many fiddly bits to reach!) What was really special is that this piece belonged to her mother and though it was looking a bit tired and its green paint was chipping off, Carol really couldn’t bear to part with it. After a gorgeous refresh in white she is now going to pass it on to her daughter to enjoy.

19.01.2022 Experimenting with chalk paint in yesterdays class at NBC. We explored techniques of colour layering, distressing, stenciling and metallics and painted on timber, glass, paper and more. 19.01.2022 This is one of lovely range of stencils from Barleycorn Vintage. They’re easy to use once you master the technique, and produce excellent results. I thought this choice of silver metallic paint on red worked beautifully. P.S. in case you’re wondering I believe ‘oeillet’ is the French word for carnation. 18.01.2022 Ive been working on adding a little bit of colour and personality to the front verandah. Both the chair and bucket have been spruced up with decor transfers from ReDesign with Prima and the chair has been painted with Slate grey from Artisan Paint Company. And how cute are the numbers? The stencil is called Funky Numbers and its from the lovely range at Barleycorn Vintage. Plenty of coats of the Flat Matte (exterior grade) sealer on top should see us through winter and I figure I can always repaint in Spring. Maybe it will be seasonal chair!? 18.01.2022 What a nice way to spend a wet Sunday, these ladies travelled from far and wide across Sydney to learn furniture painting, waxing, sealing, decoupage and more. After being in lockdown we all agreed that it is such a pleasure to be able to work in small groups together, exploring creativity, working with our hands and achieving such satisfying results. I think their pieces turned out beautifully!

16.01.2022 CREATIVE PAINT PARTY! Sunday's workshop was all about staying home and getting creative for this lovely group. They spent a very enjoyable day learning techniques with chalk paints, decoupage, stencils, waxes, sealers and metallics. Red and gold were popular, and felt very festive in the winter gloom! 16.01.2022 Beautiful crisp stencil work and very pretty ombre techniques from this group in our cushion painting class. There was a lot of laughter as we worked..do you know how therapeutic stenciling can be?? The technique of pouncing your brush can be done with quite a lot of pressure (and gusto!). We got ALL or grievances out - work disruptions, toddlers who wake all night, the endless saga of the virus, and much more. Such a great evening with these fun ladies. We used @barleycornvintagestencils and @artisanpaintcompany chalk paints.

13.01.2022 Boom! Isnt this just the cutest? What a mood lifter! Painted by a clever workshopper who has a really good eye for colour. I love how she has matched the bird and blossom print so beautifully with her colour scheme.

12.01.2022 Feels like Spring is properly here and Im celebrating with fresh whites, pinks and a few other pastels thrown in, a bit of colour blending and the very last tiny pieces from a floral transfer.
