14.01.2022 What do you get if you cross avocado, Greek yogurt and a splash of lime? A delicious creamy avocado dip! It’s the perfect side to Mexican meals, spread for sandwiches and creamy salad topper. Just mix roughly equal parts of avocado and plain yoghurt and add a splash of lime juice, salt, and pepper to taste. Delicious!... It’s a lot healthier than the stuff you can buy, plus I love that you can make up a small batch - the right amount for what you need.

13.01.2022 HALLOWEEN Apparently it’s a thing in Australia now . I’m not totally on board yet, so there’s no googley-eyed recipes from me this year. But I do have a Pinterest board with some fun ideas for some spooky snacks you may like to make together as a family this weekend. https://www.pinterest.com.au/sarahmooren/healthy-halloween/... Halloween is also the perfect time remember to let your kids have some control over their eating. Ultimately you are the boss on what gets served and when. But it is their job to decide if and how much they eat. This doesn’t mean they get to raid the fridge at will, but they control their portions. Given the opportunity, kids WILL learn regulate their intake, and stop when they've had enough. Without the opportunity to learn though and with lots of ‘talk’ about sugar, they’re actually more likely to gorge until they're sick, because they don't know when they'll be allowed it again. So what talk should we be avoiding? That’s full of sugar That’s enough now, they’re full of sugar You've had way too much sugar today Sugar is bad for us Chocolate makes you fat I hear these phrases a lot and I know they’re said with love, trying to protect children and teach them to eat better. Research shows that this feels like it works in the short term (you stopped them eating more lollies) BUT it actually has the opposite effect in the long term. Sugary treats are desired more, eaten more quickly and sometimes eaten in secret with feelings of guilt attached. The best thing you can do is: Offer a variety of healthy food most of the time Role model eating and enjoying this food Talk about healthy food in terms of taste, texture, how it’s grown/made and not nutritional value Enjoy treats sometimes, share, talk about them (this is crunchy, colourful, what’s in the middle?) This weekend, we will enjoy lollies and chocolate as a family. We focus on the sharing and enjoying them together. We also don’t comment on how much (or how little) someone else has eaten. Can they have more? Sure if there is some left and enough for everyone. If you’re reading this and thinking but MY kid will just eat way too much. Maybe they will, maybe they won’t. True healthy eating includes having a healthy relationship with food. This takes time and patience. It will include instances of eating too much chocolate and getting a tummy ache. We have ALL done that, you can’t learn to listen to your body without the opportunity to hear it for yourself.

04.01.2022 Does your family love sausages? Regular varieties tend to be high in fat and contain less meat than you'd like to think. This means they're lower in protein and nutrition compared to other cuts of meat. So, I've made my own version of our favourite sausages, and they're surprisingly easy! These apple and fennel sausages are made with regular mince, sort of like a kofta. This recipe makes 12, so you can freeze uncooked leftovers for later as sausages or even as meatballs for... school lunches. Get the recipe here: https://sarahmoorewellness.com.au/pork-apple-and-fennel-sa/ We love ours served with mashed potato and salad (and the 5 year old recommends tomato sauce ).

03.01.2022 PUMPKIN, CHICKPEA & COCONUT SOUP Packed with the goodness of legumes, this soup is packed with gut-loving fibre and protein and it’s low in saturated fat. A great way to warm up on a cold winter’s day. Suitable for the whole family. ... TOP TIP: Add fresh chilli for grown ups with congestion from seasonal colds. https://sarahmoorewellness.com.au/pumpkin-chickpea-and-coc/
