24.01.2022 Along with more FaceTime chats with our interstate & out of Brisbane families & an increased sense of community as we go for our daily walks around the local neighbourhood & parks, some little things I’ve enjoyed while working from home recently have been the opportunity to slow down our morning rush a little & more chances to be outside during days I’d usually be inside an office ~ being able to go for a walk or roll out the yoga mat at lunchtime or eating lunch or dialling ...into a team meeting from the couch or a sunny spot on the deck...sometimes, it’s the little things . . . I also wanted to share a pic that resonated recently re some nice habits to continue after this strange & fast changing time...swipe right for pic thx to @ecowithem :: Hope your all doing ok this week X #itsthelittlethings #decktime #workfromhome #yoga #eattherainbow #nourish #nurture #be See more

24.01.2022 Good morning & where are you at with coffee at the moment? . . . I am usually a one a day person these days, having been someone who had 4-5 a day in the past () and then gradually reduced to one a week or none for a couple of years...... I find that one is perfect for me currentlyany more than that & I find myself feeling anxious/unsettled/jittery...some people are more sensitive than this, and some are fine with more...as with all things; it’s individual & I encourage you to check in & see how you feel after having a cup (or more) :: Do also keep in mind that caffeine has a half life of 5-7 hours, so if you are having one in the late afternoon or after dinner your body could still be trying to process it at bedtime & beyond :: There are lots of coffee alternatives around with less caffeine or no caffeine that you can try as a swap or alternative if you feel you’d like to reduce caffeine & still enjoy a hot drink ~ if you’d like some simple, everyday ideas let me know & I’ll share them in a future post :: Swipefor a great infographic by @deannaminich that I’ve shared before but love as its great for getting some perspective re yin & the yang of coffee X #goodmorning #coffee #caffeine #checkin #holistichealth #individualnutrition #everydaynutrition #nutritionist #simplepleasures #nourish #nurture #be See more

24.01.2022 After an early start + a biggish morning of toddler playing, nursery rhyme singing & general around the house fun, Isabelle’s napping () & as her Dad’s home today I’m taking the opportunity for some time out for me ~ a big walk (sans pram), a chat with a friend & a catch up with one of my favourite podcasts, @fxmedicine...happy days & simple pleasures :: Happy weekend All & here’s to getting in some ‘me time’ moments in over the next few days, whatever that looks like for you X #metime #simplepleasures #weekendvibes #happysaturday #toddlermum #nutritionist #holistichealth #itsthelittlethings #podcasts #alwayslearning #gutlove #genomics #nutragenomics #biochemistry #nourish #nurture #be

20.01.2022 Kicked off the weekend with this choc-berry-protein porridge & wasn’t unhappy about it! :: the usual cooked porridge with some choc protein powder stirred in at the end & topped with blueberries, raspberries + cashews for crunch . .... . Another version of this choc berry combo I like is to use some cacao powder & a bit of honey in place of the protein powder & add some peanut butter or other nut butter for a bit of protein, making sure to get some protein in at snack time later also :: an egg whisked in while cooking your porridge is another option to boost the protein in your breakfast & will also provide some other lovely nutrients like choline, B12 & vitamin D :; Happy Saturday All X #porridge #breakfast #weekendvibes #proteinporridge #quickeats #balancedbreakfasts #simplegoodness #eggs #easyeats #nutritionist #everydaynutrition #nourish #nurture #be See more

17.01.2022 Yay for soup weather*! :: Pumpkin, leek & lentil soup about to be topped with a big dollop of @barambahorganics all natural full fat yoghurt & paired with a few seedy crackers :: This soup isn’t the most photogenic of colours but it’s damn tasty & super nourishing + was quick & simple to make & that’s a win-win-win in my books!... . . . Beautiful prebiotics from the leek & lentils to feed the ‘good’ guys in my gut, not to mention a lovely mix of fiber, protein, fats & other phytonutrients from the ingredients overall ~ will pop the recipe up on the blog soon & in the meantimehow good is it that so many simple & everyday foods are so nourishing & provide such a great variety of nutrients ~ we are literally supporting our health & wellbeing each & every time we eat! X *its 23 degrees here in Brisbane today so not that cold compared to my home state of Victoria, but the nights are much cooler & the skies are grey today so I’m declaring it soup weather! #soupweather #soup #everydaynutrition #simpleeats #quickeats #simplegoodness #nutrition #lunchtime #leftovers #nutritionist #pumpkinsoup #prebiotics #guthealth #nourish #nurture #be

15.01.2022 As a nutritionist, I am always interested in how someone’s gut is functioning & this forms a key part of my investigative questioning in a consultation as gut health is such an important factor in our overall health . . . Our microbiome, or the family of bacteria & other microbes that live in our guts, exerts influence over a whole range of day to day functions such as; assisting with immune defence, synthesising certain nutrients and of course helping us to digest our food... and absorb nutrients from it I wanted to get back to basics a little today and chat a about these pre and probiotics that we hear so much about, as they are often something I chat with clients about with regards to everyday food choices + gut & digestive health Our digestive system is a fascinating world, home to more than 500 different species of bacteria These bacteria are often classed as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ and, essentially, the ‘good’ guys, known as probiotics, are what keep things in check in our gastrointestinal ecosystem We can replenish these probiotics via our diet, or supplementation (if required), however they also require nourishment & feeding to help them do their job. . . . This is where prebiotics come in these are the foods which the probiotics feed and thrive on...prebiotics are non-digestible carbohydrates which are able to avoid digestion in the small intestine and make it to the lower part of our gut where they nourish the ‘good’ guys There is also resistant starch, which also provides nourishment for our ‘good’ bacteria ~ it is also able to avoid digestion in the small intestine, and make it to the lower part of our gut where it nourishes and is fermented by our microbiota. This fermentation also produces short chain fatty acids which help to keep the bowel healthy See below for some examples of pre & probiotic foods (incl. resistant starch) & a few notes to keep in mind X #prebiotics #probiotics #guthealth #microbiome #functionalfoods #holistichealth #everydaynutrition #tummylove #nutritionist #backtobasics #nourish #nurture #be

11.01.2022 Wise words & a nice reminder on my coffee cup this morning :: As a bit of a type A person, this quote resonates with my love of details, analysing info/data, to do lists & methodically ticking things off ~ just some of the reasons why I love being a clinical nutritionist & working from a holistic approach with youto analyse & map out together your goals, lifestyle, habits, health history, dietary choices & requirements & so much more to help you on your own individual jo...urney . . . This quote also resonated from the perspective of keeping the long term goal/big picture in mind for motivation when there’s a lot happening day to day, or when things change ~ taking things one step at a time & enjoying the process of working towards the end goalI personally find this to be a less stressful & most rewarding approach overall, having learned from past experiences that looking for one size fits all quick fixes or putting too much pressure on ourselves to achieve everything all at once with no allowance for detours can potentially lead us to burn out & take away some of the joy of experiencing the journey :: Happy Friday All & here’s to all those small but important steps that get us to the end result X #fridaythoughts #smallsteps #bigpicture #doityourway #bekindtoyourself #holostichealth #holisticnutrition #happyfriday #quotesoftheday #nutritionist #nourish #nurture #be See more

09.01.2022 Snack time earlier :: Snacks are a great way to fuel our bodies and minds throughout the day by helping to keep our energy, blood sugar and moods from fluctuating too much & providing nourishment and satiety . .... . 09.01.2022 Some of our super quick & crunchy little pizzas for dinner tonight made on some wholemeal wraps ~ I love a thin base & an easy weeknight dinner! . . . We topped them with: mozzarella, ham, mushrooms, baby bocconcinni, green capsicum, tomato paste & dried mixed herbs & popped them in the oven at 200 degrees (Celsius) for around 15 min then added a few greens... :: Isabelle loved helping to spread the tomato paste & sprinkle the toppings on & may or may not have helped herself to a few tasty morsels in the process X #pizzanight #quickeats #easyeats #dinnertime #simplegoodness #funtimes #kidsinthekitchen #toddlermum #nutritionist #everydaynutrition #nourish #nurture #be See more
