08.01.2022 I wanted to do up a post after seeing social media be used by disgruntled customers to tear down fellow groomers and insinuate they have traumatized and abused ...a dog after simply cutting a dogs nail too short. Its sad that Facebook is used to defame and deliberately try to destroy a small businesses credibility over a simple and very common mistake. (This did not happen to me) Firstly, we are working with live animals, they wriggle, they flinch, they mouth or bite, they thrash around, tremble and occasionally sit perfectly still. A lot goes into the entire process of grooming a dog, theres much patience, understanding of behavior and reassuring with friendly embrace, but sometimes, well most times, dogs are not perfect little pups for the process and this is where the simple mistake of kwiking a nail can be made. Id have to say, 85-90% of dogs I do dislike having their nails done and will do some of if not all of the above mentioned behaviors but we will try (unless it is dangerous to do so) because we want to keep the client happy and ensure nails are trimmed short so that they continue to recede. A lot of the time owners dont realise, its not the nail that is long - its the kwik. The blood vessel. The part that if you clip into, will bleed. Despite it being apart of the service (unless dangerous to do so) a lot of people will stress please cut the nails they are long but when presented with the nails, they are infact not long enough to take much, or any off. Then there is how the dog responds to having their paws handled and the nail trimmers. A dog thats wriggling, trembling, flinching or mouthing/biting will be harder to trim the nails on and therefor on the odd occasion a nail will be cut too short. Yes it will bleed. Yes we try to stop the bleeding using a powder or gel BUT it will bleed again if the dog licks it off, is jumping around etc. this is not an emergency, it is not a reason to leave bad reviews and post in groups. It is simply a bleeding nail that will more often than not correct on its own. The only time this becomes an issue is if an infection presents itself and for that to occur it would have had to have been cut too short and not properly cleaned and dressed. In 7 years and having cut many nails slightly short - not once has a dog got an infection. Especially after doing pug nails, those guys are notorious for bleeding!! So I guess the point I am trying to make is, if youre not sure ASK the question before going down the path of lynching. If Ive kwiked a nail that Im aware about Ill always let you know. If you notice I have and hadnt mentioned it, raise it with me. We groomers deal with lots of different dogs its not always so black and white. For your reference I have attached a guide on nail trimming

03.01.2022 The grooming industry is sadly an unrestricted one. Theres no industry standard, qualification not necessary, any joe blow can become one and theres no govern...ing body to oversee those who try to become one. So, what is the essentials in your search for a pet groomer? Here is 5 things you should know - Do they have an ABN? This is the very first step to a business operation. Hobby or not. Are the registered? Is the business name registered? Have you ever heard of generic pet care name and thought it sounds similar? Look it up, registration is required. Are they insured? In the industry we handle sharps objects and moving subjects. Insurance is a must. No insurance? No thanks Qualifications? While not (unfortunately) required, should be a must. No quals? No thanks. Experience? No experience, but claims to be able to provide you a service you wont be disappointed in? Youll end up with a mullet you didnt ask for and some whispy bits to go with. Cheap groomers arent good, and good groomers arent cheap
