25.01.2022 Following on with literacy skills, word and letter recognition. Mary Elizabeths House is one of our favourite books and a great book to help learn the days of the week. The children have no problem rote saying the days of the week in correct sequence but what about recognising the words? This little activity helps to enhance what the children say, see and hear. Funny thing was their awesome ability to recognise M formation because its M for Mitch and Mac, but, comprehending that upside down its W for Wednesday was not so easy! To help them understand we sang and chanted as many M and W words as we could think of, paying attention to their sounds and looking at their formations.

23.01.2022 Little Ochre is so loving the process of growing up... She is so proud of her every individual achievement. Ochre places the blue peg in all by herself and shes chuffed. No need for a high chair, she can sit at the table and she can even boss me around too... Ochre knows when she needs a little time to relax in front of a movie.

22.01.2022 Needing a Beauty Therapist... Specialising in nails and fruit baths... Hope you enjoyed your fruit bath Bridgey OD x

21.01.2022 Mining precious gems...

21.01.2022 Family Day Care is a wonderful way to provide quality care for children. Families can leave their children to participate in a range of freely chosen play and leisure as well as structured, deliberate and purposeful learning. Ensuring children feel recognised and respected for who they are while experiencing fun, enjoyment, mastery and success and maintaining high expectations of each childs capabilities is my job. I just love putting together little videos like this which demonstrate all of the above. The week was all about our bodies, physical and emotional. Throughout the week we discovered many things that interest and intrigue us.

21.01.2022 The schoolies enjoyed some flexible, open ended learning on Friday. From beginning, finding a recipe for snow, to end, the snow man, Nellie and Peter freely followed and extended their own interests with enthusiasm, curiosity, energy and concentration. Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners. MTOP.

20.01.2022 Who doesnt love a good book... Literacy in Early Childhood is about developing skills that will allow children to transition from learning to read to reading to learn. These skills include; ... * vocabulary * a love of books * exposure to print * ABCs * phonics * narratives Books are an easy, fun and excellent way to introduce these skills. Today we read the book Bad Cat. The kids loved it. Its beautifully illustrated with just a few words, but a great book that children can relate to. To extend their learning I printed & laminated a few of the words, and placed a paper clip on each word. The children made rainbow rice, we hid the words in the rice and using magnetic wands the children found each word. The children could see the words and hear them as I said them. A fun, simple way to expose children to words, print and sound. The best part often occurs after a good book when the children recount the things the book has reminded them of. A good old narrative.

19.01.2022 Is this not the face of pure happiness Happy Birthday Lucy Bear

18.01.2022 Freezing, windy, not an outdoor day but that didnt stop us enjoying our time indoors... zoos, number towers, big fish story and big fish craft, balloons, stories and songs...

16.01.2022 Almost every day is perfect here at Miss Sarahs, the children love their time with me and I love my time with them. This little video is just the rest of our day, a bit of play dough, cutting, rolling, baking, magnetic play, creating musical instruments, trucks & cars, some dancing and singing, a little teamwork, sandpit play, searching for worms, climbing tables and exercising those big gross motor muscles and gloves on in the sandpit... I mean why not!!!

16.01.2022 Yesterday was Red Nose Day, a major fundraiser for SIDS and Kids.

15.01.2022 Talking weight... Which one is heavy, which one is light? Talking size... The children were amazed to discover that its not always the biggest item that is the heaviest!

15.01.2022 Just one of those cute little moments, when yesterday I caught Ochre having a wonderful time taking in her reflection and building on her own sense of identity. Experiences like this one help children to develop language as they chat away and watch the movement of their own mouths.

13.01.2022 Colourful cubbies...

12.01.2022 Love watching the children play a game of schools. Peter was the principal, Nellie the teacher. Peter created the certificates using Pic collage. The older children demonstrate their awareness of fairness acting with kindness and compassion to each and every child, whether in this social game or others like it. Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world. MTOP

11.01.2022 The children enjoyed a wonderful experience this afternoon when we visited Deb & Kevs amazing little farm. Deb let us help feed the animals and we enjoyed our afternoon tea together. It was fun for all. Back home we got cosy and warm and enjoyed a game of shopping and some tricky animal sorting.

09.01.2022 We had a good time!!!

07.01.2022 This quote always makes me feel emotional. There is so much pressure on children to keep up, to do better, to achieve a goal that someone else has set. They’re... often given tasks and goals that don’t ignite their passions. There’s far too much time spent at desks rather than moving around doing active hands on learning. We allow it in early years but beyond that theres a belief that everything that follows must be taught via worksheets and sitting down. I know so many great teachers who continue to offer variety beyond these years. Activities that truly get their students eager to learn. They understand one size doesn’t fit all. That each student is on their own path... We don’t need to keep forcing information onto children that is of no interest them. We’re wasting everyone’s time. They won’t retain it as they’re not soaking up all you’re telling them. Meaningful learning is where passions flourish, where we light the way for children to grow and develop. Earlier is not better. If we get these years right - we put them in great stead for successful futures....

06.01.2022 Little Dominic shows off his awesome new found ability to feed himself... Hes learning to control muscles in his hands and coordinate movements as he uses his mouth to explore objects.
