25.01.2022 This lockdown, like all of us, has got me down at times. The uncertainty of when and how it will end is frustrating and not much I can do - except stay at home and not swim. Good swimmers make hopeless runners, but nonetheless I am running/shuffling with my patient husband. I have missed my swimming friends and all the endorphins. But this crisis brings about creativity. And so it is that there are lots of great things to come. A friend Karlie from Brisbane and I got talking and before we knew it we have organised 45 heroes to line up to have a 36km dip from Capri to Naples in June 2022. It really has brightened my world. Lots of great training and qualifying swims to come!! See you soon my swimming buddies. I miss you!! https://www.instagram.com/p/CDyoMWjo1d7/?igshid=p7vr9p8ycz59
25.01.2022 The wonderful and sensational Karlie Price. Many thanks for my entry for the Noosa 5km race. Great excuse for swimming and a glass (or two) of champagne. The fun begins!
22.01.2022 Ready for my first 10km in a while. I have built in some further floatation whilst in Italy. #underdone
21.01.2022 Although there hasn't been much of an open water swim season in Victoria this season, there are so many swims I have wanted to do for years and in 2021 and 2022 I intend to tackle some great ones - Noosa, Lake Argyle, Great Keppel and CapriNapoli to name a few. Lots of great photos and great times to come. Who is coming for a dip at Mentone? This should be a nice warm up (with maybe the odd jelly or two).
20.01.2022 Today the shoe was on the other foot. My turn to be support crew as a kayaker. Andrew Steer (swimming mate from Fitzroy)....took on the Rottnest Channel. I have never seen such consistent swimming... from kms 1 to 19 the stroke rate remained at 55 strokes per minute. Desperately cold at 11kms he was in a dark place. But he took it one stroke at a time. When he landed on the beach his body temp was 31 degrees!! What a privilege to be out there. And such an inspiring swim. Also congrats to my dear friend Kerry who smashed out a cracking swim.... and great to catch up with lots of friends. Brilliant day.
18.01.2022 First week of training done....great to be back in the water with my swimming friends. So after I had a change of heart about the EC there was a rather large hole in my life. My wingman suggested a new goal to keep me inspired (& I am a much nicer person when I am swimming). So in 7 weeks time I head to Mana Island, Fiji for a few races - 10km, 1km & 5km. But the big goal is a 20km freshwater swim in Lake Argyle next May. It will be my longest and hardest swim to date. The support crew (Edwina & Lee)are on board....and supercoach Trent Grimsey is the man with the whip.....or at least he is going to guide me through the project. No tears time Trent. And maybe I fix up the straight arms.
18.01.2022 First swim of the year in murky and grotty Port Phillip Bay. Never wear good bathers in the bay (takes a week of bleach to clean them). Still, we got conditions that were close to perfect. Glassy on the way up and a bit of tail wind to bring us home. Minimal jellies. Kerry and Steery showed they are ready for Rotto....and I showed that I still need 3 months of kms in my shoulders before Lake Argyle . A great confidence building hit out today. Many thanks to Stella for being our paddler.
18.01.2022 From sea water and now back to the chlorine....the most fun you can have looking at a black line. 100 x 100m ....so many heroes out there today. Terrific spirit. Might need a little sleep now....
17.01.2022 Always good for a bit of endurance training....who is keen??? https://mastersswimmingvic.org.au//100-x-100s-yarra-rough/
15.01.2022 Swim squad in the baths coached by the Loch Ness Monster. What a change from chlorine squad. After 10kms yesterday I was a bit sore and tired, but a change is as good as a holiday. And despite an average looking day I thoroughly enjoyed it. Coach Michael gave me a great tip - not about straight arms but about my slappy and sloppy entry. Point taken. Kilometres are getting bigger as a 2 May deadline looms. Long swim in Sydney next weekend. And I am the swimmer closest to the pontoon in the snap. No straight arms to be seen!! Michael Gregory
11.01.2022 What a spectacular and fun five days in Fiji swimming at the Mana Swim Festival. Kerry, Catherine and I charged around the 13km course and a couple of days later Kerry picked up 2nd in the 5km and I came 2nd in the 1km and won the 2.5km. I can say now my grieving process over the English Channel is over and I am simply a swimmer that thrives in warmer water. Now the training starts to crank up for the summer season and Lake Argyle. Thanks Lee for the leave pass (again) to support my swimming pursuits. #iamcomingback #oceanswimsafaris
11.01.2022 So, apparently there is some lurgy going around and the govt have blocked interstate borders. Lake Argyle Swim is officially cancelled. Bummer. Pools are closed. We need to do what we need to do. But the silver lining is that the Rotto Racers crew got in the water at Mentone this morning. What a cracking day for a swim. No jellies, clear water and the Professor of Infectious Diseases even permitted me to break social distancing regulations and I swam on his toes. I am appreciating these things so much more now. How I love swimming. Thanks Kerry, Simon Jones and Steery.
06.01.2022 Some 12.5kms... saw a turtle. Lots of fun....and coach Trent... just letting you know I finished in front of Codie. Have never beaten a Pier to Pub winner. Maybe the extra floatation helps. #unglamourousphoto #lookslikeweswamamarathon
