25.01.2022 To have good physical, mental & emotional health, we must put the work in. I’ve been nursing some physical injuries that I’ve been ignoring lately and unsurprisingly they’ve now started to hold me back from the things I want to be doing. Well, I can’t ignore the instability in my shoulder joints anymore so it’s time to get back to basics with some dedicated strength and mobility work. To be in a good headspace, we also have to put in the effort. Realistic goal setting & regular reviewing of goals, setting boundaries, self care, mindfulness (so many awesome apps to do this easily), good nutrition, physical movement and being kind to self and others. Good health needn’t be hard; consistency is key and keeping up the basics to be strong body, mind and soul. A sense of humour also helps!
21.01.2022 Feeling refreshed after a week away to chill (pardon the pun) and play with my two boys. Life has felt heavy and serious this year so to get away into beautiful nature and let my playful side out has been an incredible reset. My gratitude for such a great week of making memories is mountain high! Back to work with a refreshed heart and head tomorrow
19.01.2022 Veteran Health Week 24-31 October 2020. DVA grants available via a very simple application process (see below). I’ve tested the process myself and within a couple of days of submitting the form, DVA approved $720 for Veteran Health activities in my hometown of Yass (Yoga and coffee mornings).
05.01.2022 Trauma is a common human experience. Untreated trauma can have a devastating effect. There are many ways in which we can combat/starve trauma in order to live a healthier life.
01.01.2022 I had many excuses to not get up before dawn this morning to try crack 1000km on my bike for the ‘Tour de Kids’ but i don’t want to let my Open Arms team mates down. If there’s one thing the military gave me, it was this - never let your team down. That’s why taking up a challenge or setting a Goal with a team (whether they live close of far), making it public and believing in the reason why you’re doing it will see you hit that goal or complete the challenge. Thank you to Bree Till, Kris Obi and Sam Cruickshank for your esprit de corps and support. Loved being part of it!
01.01.2022 Yesterday the lovely Sarah Hartley visited us at Open Arms to talk about the Kookaburra Kids programs. Kookaburra Kids supports young people experiencing family mental illness by providing evidence-based, age appropriate prevention and early intervention mental health services embedded within a peer based social and activity-based format. There is a Defence specific program for kids with a serving or ex-serving family member with mental health issues. ... Sarah also talked about the Skip4Life challenge coming up during Mental Health Week in October to raise funds and awareness for Kookaburra Kids. Would you like to join in the skipping fun? Please do!! To register go to: https://www.givenow.com.au/skip4kids
01.01.2022 Open Arms - Veterans & Families Counselling has been very busy responding to the needs of the Veteran community throughout the pandemic, including face to face counselling (within COVID restrictions). Partners of Open Arms such as Redsix have also been providing continuous support to Veterans during these challenging times. I’m a huge fan of collaboration; so much more can be achieved when organisations work together to achieve a common goal. Thank you Redsix for the work you do and the sending out these face masks. #strongertogether #veterans #redsix #suicideprevention #mentalhealthawareness @openarmspeers
