25.01.2022 Nature play with my bestie . Did you know spending time in nature amongst trees can boost your immune system?! . Plants emit phytoncides, which are used to protect themselves from invaders & research suggest these chemicals can have benefits to human immunity as well!... . In case you needed another reason to get out and play in nature! See more

24.01.2022 PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE! . This philosophy really underpins natural & wholistic medicine! . It's the idea that doing all in our power to stop disease & illness, whilst managing any risk factors BEFORE sickness occurs, rather than relying on a cure after it! ... . That's one reason we ask so many seemingly irrelevant questions in a consultation & why iridology is such a vital tool for us practitioners to really understand what's happening in the whole body & to ensure we always are guided by the principle, "prevention is better than cure"! . With the ever growing fear of infections & stealth pathogens that have become antibiotic resistant, now most certainly is the time to prevent! . In our Winter Wellness Webinar, we talk all about the ways to prevent illness this cold & flu season, ways to boost immune resilience, so you can have the insight & education to protect yourself! We still have a few spots available so jump onto link in my bio to book your spot! . In health and happiness Sarah Emily Herbalist See more

23.01.2022 Winter & kidney health . Winter.... the time of hibernation, slowing down, rest, reflecting & conserving our energy! . In Traditional Chinese medicine winter is also associated with the kidneys & thus winter time is when we need to nurture these vital organs more specifically as the cooler months can put an extra strain on them. ... . Sure enough, I've seen this first hand in clinic, once the cooler weather hit, I've seen numerous clients presenting with sluggish kidneys & in particular urinary tract infections. . Some more common symptoms that are associated with sluggish kidney functions are Sore joints & muscles Cold extremities Weakness in lumbar area & knees Extremely sensitive to cold weather. Frequent & abundant urination Loose stools Back pain - particularly in the kidney area. Exhausted Feeling withdrawn . Thankfully there are many foods that are abundant in winter time that are great for supporting kidney health - Soups & broths with all those root veggies Red kidney beans Miso Carrots Cabbage Mushrooms Garlic & ginger Parsley & coriander Walnuts Dandelion leaf Stinging nettle Alfalfa . When we work with the seasons, not only in what we eat but also in how we live, slowing down & staying warm, we do much to support our kidneys & get through these cooler months coming out the other end with energy & vitality! . Stay warm friends & support those kidneys! See more

21.01.2022 ANXIETY & MINDFULNESS. . Another practical tip I recommend my clients do to help support anxiety is to practice mindfulness..... Focusing on the present moment, drawing attention away from the mental chatter & anxious thoughts & instead tuning into our physical senses (sight, sound, smell, touch, taste), what is happening in our environment & physical body. . One way we can do this is by switching off from the online world & getting into the natural world. Going for a walk i...n nature can be a great catalyst for mindfulness, we can concentrate on the sights & sounds around us. Actually touch the trees, pick the wild flowers & smell them, listen to the different birds talking. . I invite you next time you go for a walk, take off the headphones & actually pay attention to what's all around you in nature & if you do notice your thoughts wondering, gently bring them back to the present moment by picking something up & smelling it! Our senses can keep us present & mindful! . Nature & mindfulness can be a powerful way to support anxiety & can help rewire the brain away from anxious thoughts! See more

20.01.2022 ANXIETY & DIET! . The gut is often referred to as the second brain, but to be honest, I like to refer to it as the first brain.....why? . Because bacteria in our guts produce a wide range of neurotransmitters that the brain uses for mood, learning & memory. In fact 95% of our serotonin (known as the happy hormone) is manufactured in our gut! ... . So suffice to say a troubled digestive system = a troubled nervous system! . On the flip side anxiety can be significantly impacted by the good food choices we make. . Here are a few ways you can support anxiety through your diet- . Eat a diet high in Omega 3 essential fatty acids - I love getting my Omega 3's from nuts, seeds, avocados & seed oil. My favourite would be hemp & flaxseed oils. . Eat complex carbohydrates - from wholegrain sources like wild rice, quinoa & root vegetables. These foods are rich in fibre which feeds & supports our gut bacteria. . Eat the rainbow - diversity is key here, so try to make every meal contain one colour from the rainbow - red, yellow, orange, purple, green! . Snack on berries - they are powerhouses of antioxidants which protects the brain from neural inflammation & the on going effects of stress. . Buy organic produce - the obvious reason is due to pesticide & fertiliser & the negative impact on our gut microbiome. . Avoid processed sugar - sugar is like a bomb for our gut, it feeds the bad bacteria responsible for low mood & it increases inflammation & acidity. Try to swap processed sugar for naturals sugars like honey, maple syrup & fruits as they contain the fibre along with the sugar making it useful to the body. . Need a little more help with your anxiety. Reach out to me & we can arrange an appointment for full body support. . Stay posted for another couple of my favourite ways to support anxiety, in following posts! See more

17.01.2022 NETTLE INFUSION . . Stinging nettle, "no plant is more useful in domestic medicine" (Hilda Leyel). . Well said Hilda, I couldn't agree more. It's one of my absolute favourite herbs & one I readily prescribe in a herbal infusion (tea) to my clients!... . It's list of benefits are almost too numerous to mention, but a couple stand out benefits of this humble weed are . Anaemia & iron deficiencies - its a blood builder & blood tonic. Kidney tonic - helps clear uric acid, lower blood pressure & stimulate the kidneys. Blood purifier - super rich in chlorophyll, giving it that vibrant green colour. Skin conditions - eczema, psoriasis, acne & other chronic skin conditions, also amazing for stimulating hair growth. Hormones - in particular PCOS support due to its ability to convert androgens to oestrogen. Used in pregnancy & breastfeeding due to its rich mineral content & helps stimulate breast milk. . Such a humble herb, known by some as a weed do yourself a favour & have a nettle tea daily to reap the benefits of this most useful herb. . Do you like nettle tea? See more

16.01.2022 SUPPLEMENTS . All supplements are created equal right? . If its sold on the shelf or online it means its safe for me to take yeah?... . There's no point paying extra for the same type of supplement hey? . The short answer to all the above is NO!!! . Supplements aren't all created equal, the quality absolutely matters. Just because something is sold as safe over the counter doesn't mean it's safe for you. And as with anything you get what you pay for!!! . The following are just a few example of why you should ALWAYS seek the advice of a trained natural health practitioner before taking any supplements . Prenatal vitamins - those commonly sold over the counter contain folic acid, which is an inefficient & can be dangerous form of vitamin B9 if not properly metabolised by the body. . Magnesium supplements - many contain magnesium oxide which again is a very poorly absorbed form of magnesium which can actually lead to diarrhoea! . Vitex - a fantastic herb for many women's health conditions. But NOT ALL women will benefit from this herb, it can in fact aggregate some women's health conditions! Dosage of this herb is also a big thing to be aware of when using vitex. . Fish oil - Omega 3 fish oils can very easily oxide & go rancid, not only that but cheap over the counter fish oils may contain high levels of mercury, left unfiltered, thats why you get it soo cheap! . The idea of this post isn't to scare people, rather to educate that herbs & supplements, much like any drugs can be medicine or poison dependant on a variety of things! . Sooooo always check with a qualified Herbalist, Naturopath or Nutritionist before taking any supplement! This is what we train for!! . In health and happiness Sarah Emily Herbalist See more

15.01.2022 CREATING HABITS . . This quote highlights a principle I use in clinic, when making changes, whether dietary or lifestyle it's all about being sustainable, how will this change effect not only the current dis-ease present in the body but also the long term health of this beautiful human... . The quest for health & vitality isn't just to "cure" a certain health condition, rather it's a way of life. It's creating habits that are championing health & putting you in line to have... the ability to heal yourself when certain things pop up along the way. . The old "it's the journey not the destination" quote runs true in the case of health... Why because this world is geared toward making us sick, so we need to learn habits that will support us along the journey. . Are you daily habits allowing you to live for wellness? See more

14.01.2022 IRIDOLOGY! . It was one of my favourite subjects when at college & continues to be one of my favourites in clinic as well! . The eye can give us an indication into familiar health issues, many times ill see something in the eye & ask the client about a specific condition that runs in the family & 99% of the time it's accurate!... . My favourite saying is "the eye can not lie"! . However whether or not you develop this inherent potential is still up to you...."it's influenced by the way you eat, drink, think, live & love". Toni Miller . I have many online clients, who always get a little worried they'll miss out on the iridology part of consults, however our phone cameras are pretty amazing these days, so I always ask the client to send clear photos of each eye in natural light! . Works a charm & depending on time, I often do share screen with the client so they can see for themselves what amazing things there eyes are revealing! . Have you had iridology done before? What did you think? See more

11.01.2022 ANXIETY & Gratitude! . It's probably one of the most common conditions that I see in clinic, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. Unfortunately anxiety is becoming more & more common among young ones too! . Anxiety is the bodies natural response to a stressful situation. The issue lies when this natural response doesn't stop or when the body views simple tasks as something stressful & the subsequent feelings linger & leave you feeling debilitated.... . In light of how common it is in my clinic, I wanted to share some simple tips in the next few posts to help combat anxiety & manage the symptoms. . GRATITUDE - "the quality of being thankful, readiness to show appreciation for & to return kindness." . When you are being grateful you can't help but feel joy, which "distracts" the nervous system meaning you can't be stressed or anxious & be joyful & grateful at the same time! . Sometimes thou when the anxious thoughts get too much, it can be hard to see outside the clouds, but if you get into the habit of daily thinking of 3 things you are grateful for, you are training your brain & reprogramming it. . I often suggest to my clients to do a gratitude journal at night before bed, think of 3 things you are grateful for during that day, it can be simple things like the smell of freshly brewed coffee, or hearing the birds sing! . I encourage everyone this week to join in my gratitude challenge & at the end of the day write down 3 things that made you feel joy in the day! Let's see how you feel by the end of the week! . Give me a in the comments if you're keen to join in on my gratitude challenge! See more

09.01.2022 AND that's a wrap..... . Officially finished the year & my wonderful Sarah Emily Herbalist Clinic is now closed until January 5th 9am. . I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all my amazing clients, it's been a pretty full on year, but you guys make me love what I do a little more each day, if that's even possible. ... . 09.01.2022 As we begin to wind down the end of what's been a hectic year, we can look back on it with gratitude that we made it through, despite this unprecedented situation we found ourselves in earth wide. . Has this year left you feeling ready & inspired to look after your health, just that much more? . If so, having SMART goals will help you move into the new year with a plan of action to live your best year yet.... . " A goal without a plan is just a wish". . So I thought I would share with you all some ways to reach your health goals next year & beyond. . S - specific - clear & precise. . M - measurable - a measure that indicates when the goal has been achieved. . A - attainable - realistic for you personally . R - relevant - to your lifestyle, capacity & deep desires. . T - time bound - time frame, helping it to be specific & making you more accountable. . Some other insightful questions to ask yourself are - What are the reasons & motivations for embarking on this change? How do you feel now? What if nothing changed where would you be this time next year? How will you feel once you achieve your goal? . Spend some time working out exactly what your health goals are & get in touch with me so I can assist you on your health journey. . In health and happiness Sarah Emily Herbalist See more

09.01.2022 Ranginak . A Persian sweet treat featuring DATES, is the ultimate winter dessert, especially when served with cardamom & cinnamon tea! . 05.01.2022 This is one of my favourite quotes I often chat to my clients about because it helps empower us all to choose a way of life that is conducive to health. . If we sit back & think that health is in our genetics, we take a rather passive approach, which in most cases is actually incorrect! . Did you know that most health conditions today are considered as "lifestyle diseases".... . Things like - - Heart disease - High blood pressure - Type 2 diabetes - Atherosclerosis - Obesity - Cancer - PCOS . Whilst it is true that with certain conditions, such as endometriosis, there are familial patterns. This is certainly not the case with most condtions & it doesn't necessarily mean that you are certain to suffer with it too! A large part comes back to your diet & lifestyle! . This is another reason I LOVE iridology as it gives us an insight into "Genetics" or predispositions but as Toni Miller would say "how this picture plays out much depends on the way we, eat, drink, live & love"! . I hope this post empowers you to take your health into your own hands! See more
