23.01.2022 A SMOKE ALERT FOR TASMANIA Issued At: 30 Dec 2019 12:40 In parts of Tasmania it is looking smokey and hazy, particularly on the east coast. This smoke is coming... from bushfires in Victoria and New South Wales, not Tasmania. This smoke and haze is likely to remain or worsen across the state today and into tonight. What to do: People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke from the burn. Advice is available from the Department of Health www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/publichealth/air/bushfire_smoke or Asthma Australia https://asthma.org.au/about-a/triggers/bushfires-and-smoke/ Stay informed in case conditions change by monitoring local radio stations and the Tasmania Fire Service Website - www.fire.tas.gov.au Incident number: NA
22.01.2022 The forecast for today remains unchanged. Extreme and severe conditions are expected across most of the eastern half of the state. Of particular concern is the ...Derwent Valley, the South East, and the entire East Coast. Our greatest concern today is lightning strikes. If lightning strikes hit the ground on your property and a fire starts please call TFS immediately on Triple Zero so fire crews can attend. In extreme conditions, bushfires are very difficult to control, and even homes built to modern standards are very hard to defend. If a fire breaks out you cannot expect a fire truck in every driveway. Review your bushfire survival plan and decide now what you will do if a fire breaks out in your area. Stay away from bushland in the highest risk areas. Remember it's a total fire ban until 2am Tuesday for the north and south.
