19.01.2022 Ignition of the planned burn at Upwey between Hughes Street and Tremont Hill Track is now underway. Tremont Hill Walking Track in the Dandenong Ranges National ...Park will be closed for the weekend. This 3.4-hectare burn is a critical part of our program to reduce the bushfire risk in the area. Weather permitting, the burn will be complete by Sunday 22 November. Crews will remain on site throughout the night and in coming days to patrol the burn. Planned burning is one of the many strategies used by FFMVic as part of an integrated approach to protecting life and property from the risk of bushfire. Our crews are adhering to appropriate physical distancing and hygiene requirements to ensure operations are carried out safely. We understand that smoke from planned burns can cause concern and encourage those who are sensitive to smoke to remain indoors and keep windows closed until the smoke passes. This is a small burn that is not expected to generate large amounts of smoke, but the poor ventilation forecast means smoke is likely to settle rather than be immediately dispersed. We are taking every opportunity to burn while conditions allow, and it is safe to do so. For more information on this burn please contact 1800 226 226 or visit www.vic.gov.au/plannedburns. 16.01.2022 If conditions are suitable and it’s safe to do so, Forest Fire Management Victoria will ignite a planned burn in Upwey between Hughes Street and Tremont Hill Tr...ack on Saturday 21 November. The burn will be around 3.4 hectares and is focused on reducing the spread and intensity of bushfires in the surrounding area. If the burn goes ahead, there will be traffic management on Hughes St between Mount Dandenong Tourist Rd and Olivette Ave during the burn to enable fire crews to work safely. Residents who live along Hughes Street will be able to access their properties. Tremont Hill Walking Track in the Dandenong Ranges National Park Will be closed for the weekend. We work closely with the Bureau of Meteorology to assess weather conditions, such as humidity, temperature and wind speed, and will only carry out burns when the conditions are suitable. We understand that smoke from planned burns may cause concern and encourage those who are sensitive to smoke to remain indoors and keep windows closed until the smoke passes. As this is a small burn it should not generate large amounts of smoke, but there could be poor ventilation, which may cause smoke to settle overnight rather than immediately disperse. Under the current public health advice, our planned burning program can continue for now. If that advice changes, we will make any adjustments necessary in consultation with Victorian Department of Health & Human Services, Environment Protection Authority Victoria, CFA (Country Fire Authority) and Vic Emergency. Our crews are adhering to appropriate physical distancing and hygiene requirements to ensure we can safely continue operations across the state. 10.01.2022 With La Niña now well established in the Pacific Ocean, the outlook for this summer is vastly different to the past few years. Wetter-than-normal conditions a...re likely across much of the country, increasing the chance of widespread flooding in eastern Australia. La Niña also means we're expecting average to above-average numbers of tropical cyclones and tropical lows. While the risk of bushfires isn't as high as last summer, fires will occur. There's a greater chance of grass fires in some areas as recent rain and warm weather have led to vigorous vegetation growth. Summer days are likely to be warmer than average for parts of southeast Australia, coastal Queensland, and far western parts of WA. And heatwaves will continue to pose a risk throughout the warmer months, which can have a significant impact on human health. 09.01.2022 Road Safety Week is an opportunity to highlight the devastating impact motor vehicle collisions have on our loved ones and our first responders. CFA responded t...o a total of 4,350 motor vehicle collisions last year and during the warmer months we saw an increase on the monthly average. We know Victorians are making plans to get back on the road this weekend and over summer. We are asking you to make sure every journey you make is a safe one.
