23.01.2022 Our wrap up for the first half of the yearand what a year it has been so far! From the beginning of January to the end of June, we’ve received over 2,900 requests for assistance. These have included: - over 1,400 trees down... - over 600 related to severe weather and flooding salvages - over 300 road crash rescues and vehicle recoveries - over 300 rescues, including 32 marine search and rescues - over 100 related to building impacts and collapses - over 170 requests to assist other emergency services, including assisting South Australia Police with searches over 30 times. We’re extremely proud of our volunteers and the amount of work they’ve done to support their communities and assist our peers across the emergency services. This has included support to SA Country Fire Service during the Blackford and Cherry Gardens bushfires earlier this year, and deploying interstate to support NSW SES, Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA and their communities during their times of need. A big thank you to our hardworking volunteers, to their families for their ongoing support, and to their employers for supporting our volunteers to respond when required. Interested in becoming a volunteer with the SES? Register your interest today at www.ses.sa.gov.au/volunteer-registration If you need SES assistance, call 132 500. For life-threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000).

15.01.2022 Last weekend SES volunteers assisted South Australia Police with a search in the South-East of the State. SES volunteers provided support by conducting land search activities, handling search dogs (2 teams), providing operations support, and piloting search drones (remotely piloted aircraft). Thankfully a good outcome was achieved. Thanks to all of our volunteers. #makingadifference... Make a difference in your community. Become a SES volunteer www.ses.sa.gov.au/volunteer

13.01.2022 With the Bureau of Meteorology declaring a La Niña event, it means we should be preparing for lots of rain, which means floods. We’ve already seen flooding in the north of the state, so we all need to stay prepared to make sure you keep yourself, your family, your friends and your community safe. We’ve got resources that will help, including a checklist, brochure, Easy English guide and translated resources in a range of languages. You can find all this on our website, so you... can download and print them to keep them handy. https://www.ses.sa.gov.au/site/about_us/sases_resources.jsp

09.01.2022 Congratulations to Andrea and Kaylene for both receiving awards for their service to the SA State Emergency Service. Andrea received the 10 Year Long Service Medal and Kaylene received the 20 Year Bar to the Long Service Medal. Well done and thank you for your ongoing commitment to the SASES!
08.01.2022 One of the reasons we advise you don’t drive, walk or ride through floodwaters is because you can’t see what’s occurring underneath the surface. Here’s a good example of what we mean. This is the Strzelecki Track, a popular route for outback travellers in South Australia. This damage to the road occurred due to the rain and floods up north. So, next time you’re driving and the road is flooded, don’t risk itturn around and find another way or wait for another time to cross.... For more tips on how to be prepared for floods, visit our website. https://www.ses.sa.gov.au/site/flood.jsp Photos: SA Infrastructure and Transport
06.01.2022 On Saturday, a group of SES members came together for the first online Community of Practice for SES Trainer-Assessors. Our Trainer-Assessors play a critical role in the development of SES volunteers and enable us to maintain our capabilities to a high standard. This Community of Practice provided Trainer-Assessors the opportunity to discuss training and assessment practices, and share experiences and learnings with each other. The focus: engaging with learners, online learning and supporting language, literacy and numeracy needs. Thank you to all who participated in Saturday’s meeting. We really appreciate your passion and commitment towards training our volunteers. Your enthusiasm has motivated us to plan for more online Community of Practice meetings in 2021.
