18.01.2022 Check out the evolution of Iridium Satellite devices. A lot has changed since 1998! Motorola Iridium 9500 (1998 2001) The Motorola Iridium 9500 satellite phone was the first satellite phone made for the Iridium network weighing at a massive 500g This monster had a battery life of 16 hours on standby. Included Plastic flap to cover keypad and a SIM card the size of a credit card which slots into the bottom of the device.... Motorola 9505 (2001 - 2004) The Motorola 9505 was slightly smaller and lighter than the 9500 and weighing in at 440g with a Battery life of 20 hours on standby. Iridium 9505a (2004 - 2008) Weighing in at 400g, the Iridium 9505a changed slightly since the 9505, including the charging port. The great big charger was changed to a smaller charger adaptor which was relocated to the side of the device. Satellite SMS also became available with this device. Iridium 9555 (2008 - Current) The Iridium 9555 is much smaller than the previous handsets weighing in at only 300g. The Ariel is now a part of the phone which is no longer removable, including up to 30 hours battery life on standby, 3.12 hours talk time and additional features such as the USB for connecting to the Internet. Iridium 9575 (2011 - Current) The Iridium 9575 is the best handheld satellite phone on the market weighing in at 290g. this amazing piece of technology has a battery life of up to 30 hours on standby and is water/dust resistant. GPS tracking and the SOS button is also a bonus. Iridium Go (2014 Current) The Iridium Go is a portable satellite hotspot device designed to provide voice and SMS VIA an app on your mobile phone. Up to 5 users can simultaneously use SMS services at the same time, however, only one user can make a voice call at a time.
