25.01.2022 SLOW BURN: Using landscape as a metaphor for belonging and loss, Slow Burn explores the relationship between nature and death. Novick’s current practice uses the process of drawing to generate visual studies that explore the notion of loss and desire. Examining his own internal landscape in an attempt to link his past with the present, the artist explores concepts of faith, belonging, connection, memory, identity, knowing and unknowing, to give expression and shape to deeply... personal symbolism and iconography. With long established ties to the coastal location, Novick navigates the landscape between Port Noarlunga and Sellicks Beach to weave an illustrative narrative that reflects on his deep and layered connection with place and the emotion of homecoming. #sauerbierhouse #Artistinresidence #OnkaparingaArts

19.01.2022 SEATED IN AN UNSETTLED POSITION: AnthropocenTric Speculations and the HeadSpace series have developed alongside each other during the residency at Sauerbier House. The complexity of Anthropocene presents us with enormous challenges: Should we refine the elegy as a lament for the species, people and places that have and will be lost? Should we strive to develop new languages of grief or hope? What is art of the Anthropocene - a memorial?... As these profound questions weigh me down, I am perplexed by the irrational response to the current crisis. Well, yes, we do survive complex problems by turning to absurdity. But still, I feel deeply unsettled as I continue my everyday life, I continue to breathe and contemplate how to undo the future. See more

17.01.2022 Time traveler for hole - Sasha Grbich & Kelly Reynolds until 1 August 2020 Human slingshot time machine 16-page artist book, edition of 20.... Tennis balls collected in Sasha’s front yard (she lives across the road from a tennis court) were kept in our bags as a form of notebook on which we wrote fragmented observations and questions that arose during our iso-days. As a collaborative, performative act, our bodies became a human slingshot that propelled the balls into the future from the highest point on the roof. 12.01.2022 Coming home can mean many things. For some, it conjures a curious combination of associations including warmth, nostalgia, anxiety and excitement. Indeed, Home is usually much more than a house. It can be a person, a feeling or a place. When strong, our connections to home instil our most formative and idealistic values. At its core, it represents something on this planet which gives us the freedom to be ourselves; to explore and express safely and to belong. Installed wit...hin the domestic design of Sauerbier House, a residence with many past lives and cast against a backdrop of home-isolation, Arlon Hall unpacks what it means to return home in his artistic practice.
