23.01.2022 There are several reasons why you haven't heard back from that RECRUITER. The most common experience for #jobseekers is unfortunately, negative in its outcome and leads to a greater divide between recruiters & candidates. It's frustrating, dishonest and unnecessary but it happens every day. The worst part is, it's deliberate and it's unethical as it is illegal!... Advertising FAKE ADS or PHANTOM JOBS. Why do they do it? To build up their database in specific job categories or developing markets It's a perfect way to use up prepaid advertising spots which are not being used during any given period of their advertising contract To market fresh candidates out to new or existing clients in the hope that they make a placement The recruiter needs to meet strict daily or weekly advertising quotas They might have clients who have multiple locations with similar personnel needs but not necessarily with an actual vacancy This is why you should take a selective approach to your online job search strategy and pursue more direct channels to securing your next role. Seek, qualify & partner with one or more recruiters. Ask for referrals from your network including here on LinkedIn. Thoughts or feedback. #careers #jobs #jobsearch #recruiters
19.01.2022 So much talk going on about what will happen next and questions focusing on how we will recover from this experience which we are all going through. There are many people who routinely wait till something drastic, life changing and significant happens before they assess their career. What COVID-19 has exposed is how so many people have been complacent about their career or the 'job' they were in when all this hit.... Your career is a work-in-progress and complacency will be your kryptonite! Be patient but ambitious and stay focused on your career. #jobs #careers #yourcareer #networking
17.01.2022 Why is everyone in such a RUSH? and WHY are you still just talking? STOP talking and start DOING! There is way too much talking and not enough ACTION going on. If you really want to kick start your career, follow your career passion or start something you've always wanted to do, then YOU just need to do the WORK! No one else will do it for you!... There's no such thing as 'overnight success'. Block out all the noise & distractions by focusing on what's in front of you! Be Patient but Ambitious.
16.01.2022 RECRUITERS are useless! This is only true if you're not in control and if you're allowing recruiters to dictate terms to you. Remember, there are recruiters & then there are great recruiters. How do you go about seeking and securing a great recruiter to partner with you on your career journey?... Start with this... Do your own research - narrow your search by looking for specialists in your field & assess their knowledge, industry experience & presence. Once you have identified one or more recruiters - qualify them. Test their industry expertise, ask about their type of client base, ask for candidate referrals & drill deep into their recruitment process. Ask for referrals - speak with colleagues (past & present), friends & family, industry contacts and even ask other recruiters for industry or discipline based specialists. Use LinkedIn to assess & compare recruiters based on several factors including their network, recommendations and career trail. But STOP complaining about RECRUITERS when you're also part of the problem. If you're serious about partnering with a recruiter, these are just a few steps you can take to start on the front foot. Be patient but stay ambitious and focus on you. #jobs #careers #recruiters #networking #jobsearch #jobseekers
16.01.2022 Developing your career comes down to being PERSISTENT. Received a call from a candidate earlier today who lost their job just over a month ago and when they did, immediately turned their attention to securing a new one. They work in the finance area and have an impressive career trail but she also recognizes that she has a long way to go.... A key part of her re-employment strategy was to draw up a list of companies she would love to work for and contact them directly. LinkedIn became one of her main sources of information, ideas and support. Next, she stayed persistent to her goals. She found out who she had to speak with or contact as part of her strategy and then she did just that. She was relentless but always respectful and professional. Of course there were rejections and a lot of 'maybe's' along the way but she stayed persistent. Making direct contact with these companies was also just one part of her overall job search strategy which included online listings, partnering with recruiters and working through her own network for possible opportunities. Your situation is a matter of perspective and it's up to you what you do next. Be patient but stay ambitious and focus on you. #jobs #jobseekers #careers #networking #jobsearch
15.01.2022 Most graduating HS students would love the chance but most parents HATE the thought of it. After over 12 pressure filled years of school and studies, the options for our kids are endless but the confusion is HUGE! This could be the answer but it might not suit everyone and there's some real factors to consider before you commit. Do you know:... How many of our kids go to Uni or TAFE and hate their choices? What the drop out rate from Uni or TAFE is amongst our young ones? How many of them graduate and never get to use their qualifications? How many people realise later in life just how much they hate their career choice or job? Be patient but stay ambitious and focus on you. #careers #jobs #jobseekers #highschool #parents #teenagers
13.01.2022 Great results achieved for several candidates I've been working with in recent weeks and months. It's been tough, draining and quite emotional at times but always rewarding, for everyone involved. For me too because I get to see just how I can keep helping more people because it's what drives me. Everyone has made amazing progress but there's still so much more to be done and they all know that HARD WORK is key to making it all happen.... It's all a matter of PERSPECTIVE! Put some PERSPECTIVE into your CAREER and the opportunities will be endless. Just don't sit there, complain and create your own world of REGRET. Be patient but stay ambitious and focus on you. #careers #jobs #jobseekers #future
13.01.2022 Complacency is your career's eternal enemy. There's just no other way to look at it and if you STOP, so does your career. Forget about finding excuses or reasons why you can't find work or why you keep missing out on opportunities with your current employer or somewhere else.... I know it's not easy and it feels like everything is stacked against you. I've been there, so I understand and empathize with all of you. Do all the essentials like keeping your CV/Resume updated, be selective in your job search process and prepare for interviews at all times but YOU also need to: Reach out and seek the experience of others Be resourceful and STOP complaining about a lack of resources Keep your LinkedIn profile updated, connect and be as active as possible Don't waste TIME but be realistic with your day - you also need time for YOU Ignore the NOISE around you and put in the work This is your life, your career so STOP thinking and start DOING. Be patient but stay ambitious and focus on you. #careers #jobseekers #jobs #jobsearch #networking #linkedin
12.01.2022 Why do people wait till it's too late before they decide to do something about their job or career? There are always signs or indicators telling you that things are either going well or not. Last night I spoke with an experienced Operations Manager who has had enough of his current employer and the situation his employer puts him into on a regular basis.... He works a typical 12 to 14 hours a day in his role, travels well over 1,000 km every week between 3 different sites and spends the majority of his day in & out of his company vehicle. His decision to make a change came down to something as simple as requesting, multiple times now, new tyres for his company vehicle, which were completely worn out and no longer safe. His request fell on deaf ears and he was told to toughen up! Might sound like he over-reacted but he has been seeing a pattern of disrespect and a lack of appreciation for the role he plays in the business. Especially after 8 years of service! Why wait till things get worse? His decision is final and his choice to take ACTION is real. Even in these difficult & uncertain times, there are plenty of opportunities crying out for passionate, hardworking and dedicated people. Be patient but stay ambitious and focus on you. #careers #jobs #jobsearch
10.01.2022 "Is NOW a good time to reassess my career and look at a different job altogether?" Why are people waiting for something life changing to happen before they do something about their job or career? This goes back to the amount of time we spend in our jobs, with the majority of people thinking that their working day consists of their starting and ending time. WRONG!... Your day starts when you rise out of bed and begin preparing to go to work. If you're waking up with a knot in your stomach, hate your job or manager, not to mention your work colleagues, then it's time to make a change. You'll work with people you won't necessarily like and be surrounded by distracting 'office' politics, not to mention deal with your personal life. But why would you wait until a crisis like the one we are all going through to decide to act or look at your career? What this pandemic has exposed are people who have been complacent about their career. "It's a job"..."job's a job".."I hate my job but it pays the bills." Really? No one said it was going to be EASY but it's only going to get harder if you don't focus on your career and keep working at it. #jobs #careers #networking #Jobseekers
04.01.2022 What is one of the most underutilized strategies in career development? It's NOT complicated and yet it flies under the radar every single day! We all have it at our disposal but not everyone realizes its real potential and yet, we all do it every day of our lives.... It's a natural and intrinsic action for all of us to associate & connect with groups, clubs and other people. The benefits are endless and these rewards flow both ways for all parties involved. NETWORKING! People everywhere are connecting with each other every day and the results speak for themselves. When the expectation of any relationship is always mutual, the key result is always TRUST. Make NETWORKING a huge part of your career strategy but definitely not the only one. Reach out to old friends & contacts, past colleagues, your old boss, suppliers & clients you've worked with and get started here on LinkedIn. Will you like everyone you meet? Of course NOT! But remember, forging a relationship is like your career. Starting one is one thing but keeping one is the real challenge. Be patient but stay ambitious and focus on YOU. #careers #jobs #networking #relationships
01.01.2022 Let's kick start some ACTION and practical steps to keep moving forward. Start with.... Opening up several tabs to begin your search across multiple job boards e.g Seek, Indeed, Glassdoor, CareerOne, Adzuna and be as SELECTIVE as possible.... Giving your CV/Resume a brief review and gather your thoughts. Going to LinkedIn - spend time throughout your day reaching out to existing & new contacts, review & update your profile and search for listed opportunities - make your presence felt. Getting an update from your Recruiter(s) and stay on their case. If they don't call you, YOU call them! Reaching out to your network of colleagues, clients, suppliers, managers, industry contacts and friends - past & present. If you are not working through a Recruiter, then source one through your network by asking for referrals and qualify them. Keep moving forward, believe in yourself and don't look back! Be patient but stay ambitious and focus on YOU. #careers #jobs #jobsearch #jobseekers #networking
