23.01.2022 Another small masterpiece from UU Minister Rev. Lynn Ungar.
23.01.2022 Let This Darkness Be a Bell Tower - Rainier Maria Rilke Quiet friend who has come so far, feel how your breathing makes more space around you. Let this darkness be a bell tower... and you the bell. As you ring, what batters you becomes your strength. Move back and forth into the change. What is it like, such intensity of pain? If the drink is bitter, turn yourself to wine. In this uncontainable night, be the mystery at the crossroads of your senses, the meaning discovered there. And if the world has ceased to hear you, say to the silent earth: I flow. To the rushing water, speak: I am. See more
21.01.2022 Watch this. It's the best (and worst) thing you'll see today.
21.01.2022 "The worst thing we ever did was put God in the sky out of reach pulling the divinity... from the leaf, sifting out the holy from our bones, insisting God isn’t bursting dazzlement through everything we’ve made a hard commitment to see as ordinary, stripping the sacred from everywhere to put in a cloud man elsewhere, prying closeness from your heart. The worst thing we ever did was take the dance and the song out of prayer made it sit up straight and cross its legs removed it of rejoicing wiped clean its hip sway, its questions, its ecstatic yowl, its tears. The worst thing we ever did is pretend God isn’t the easiest thing in this Universe available to every soul in every breath" -Chelan Harkin From her poetry book 'Susceptible to Light' Mycelium Dreaming 48 x36 acrylic on canvas 2018 By @autumnskyeart

16.01.2022 Dear SA Unitarians and Friends: Due to the new COVID-19 outbreak and increased restrictions, in-person Sunday Services will be suspended for the next two Sundays (22 Nov and 29 Nov). On-line services will be offered instead, with details shared here as they become available.
13.01.2022 In today's address, Aaron immediately refers us to our 1st and 7th Principles. He begins by examining stereotypes of masculinity and toxic masculinity, prompted by the current debate re "toxic masculinity" amongst some male politicians and their behaviour towards vulnerable female staff. Aaron briefly examines commonly-held stereotypes of masculinity and the effects of such stereotyping. He maintains that, notwithstanding the recent political controversy regarding toxic mascu...linity by some State and Federal politicians, toxic masculinity is on the decline whilst actual masculinity, the polar opposite of toxic masculinity - is on the rise. He looks to nature for the 'obvious hint' as to why. In the natural world, 'male' and 'female' and are valued equally. This contrasts with human social systems - where males, stereo-typically - have been over-valued and females - under-valued. So why is "natural masculinity" on the increase? Listen on! See more
12.01.2022 Today's address, given on the 11th April, 2021 in our Adelaide Church by our President, Jennie Dyster, is all about Lying. Of the 10 Commandments, Jennie would describe the ninth - "Thou shalt not bear false witness" as the one that needed to be taken with the "largest grain of salt". It's the most common of our misdeeds, and an unavoidable part of human nature. We can all think of situations where to speak the Truth, the whole Truth and nothing but the Truth would be a very poor strategy indeed. 10.01.2022 Proud signatory.
09.01.2022 Please join us this Sunday, 30 May, for a special cafe-style service. This will be your chance to hear our historic organ as you may never have before. Guest organist Seungyeon Choi is the real deal! Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served, thereby re-inaugurating our tradition of Sunday morning refreshments (with COVID-safe procedures).... The topic of the address by Jennie Dyster, UCSA President, will be " The Future of Unitarianism in SA". We will sit around tables to facilitate conversation and conviviality. Do not fear butcher paper, squeaky texters or reporting back to the larger group. These school-ish conference strategies won't happen. We will be discussing what people want from the Unitarian House and how to best serve spiritual and community needs.
09.01.2022 How to Grow Old from (sometime) Unitarian Bertrand Russell: "Make your interests gradually wider and more impersonal, until bit by bit the walls of the ego recede, and your life becomes increasingly merged in the universal life. An individual human existence should be like a river small at first, narrowly contained within its banks, and rushing passionately past rocks and over waterfalls. Gradually the river grows wider, the banks recede, the waters flow more quietly, and i...n the end, without any visible break, they become merged in the sea, and painlessly lose their individual being...The man who, in old age, can see his life in this way, will not suffer from the fear of death, since the things he cares for will continue. And if, with the decay of vitality, weariness increases, the thought of rest will not be unwelcome. I should wish to die while still at work, knowing that others will carry on what I can no longer do and content in the thought that what was possible has been done." See more
09.01.2022 There's a shift away from traditional theism towards a more global, scientific neo-pantheism (World Pantheism) in response to a growing recognition of the importance of aboriginal, natural wisdoms in song-lines and stories about Nature. These wisdoms were applied at our Shady Grove Eucalyptus obliqua woodland in our "cool burn" in early April, the first fire at Shady Grove in over 164 years. With careful management by our bush-carers, we are already seeing the benefits to biodiversity as our woodland rapidly regenerates. Listen on!

03.01.2022 This online event will be of interest to many in our church and followers.
03.01.2022 In his address today - Sunday, June 27th in Adelaide, John Hall reflects on the word "atonement" - originally meaning "at-one-ment" - being "at one" - or in harmony with others and with oneself, thereby enabling us to live life holistically. This leads John to reflect also on life and the inevitability of death. We have a choice in how to approach death: from a position of fear or from a position of Love. "How do we develop a more holistic approach to this journey of life and living?" John asks. He suggests a holistic approach - centred on Hope. Listen on!
02.01.2022 This Sunday morning, John Eaton explored the life of the 13th Century Sufi Mystic and Universalist, Jall ad-Dn Muhammad Balkh Rumi, who is known today by the nisbah in his name, Rumi (the poet and mystic from Rum) who, despite his flaws and mistakes, wrote prolifically and evocatively about the overwhelming commonality and oneness of all people and of all faith traditions. 01.01.2022 In her address today - Sunday, June 20th, 2021, Jennie considered the use - and the misuse - of CRISPR gene-editing and 3D printing. This is the second of Jennie's addresses on ethical decision-making in a world made more complex by technology and power "scattered" or disseminated via the internet to those who might use it for good or for evil purposes.
