23.01.2022 The Perfect Bath Have time! Water temp about 48C Ingredients (salts and Body Oil) Something to do (body scrub, face mask, face oil)... Something you don’t often allow yourself (alcohol? Chocolate? Cigarette?) Low light A great bath temp is hot enough that it’s hot but you feel like you can just stay in. As it cools you are sufficiently warmed that you don’t become cold. We have for the last ten years or so had an old cast iron bath outside that connects to our portable gas heater and the hose. This bath has followed us around a couple of homes (and even comes camping) but it is an important part of our quality time together where we discuss our day, dreams, concerns and ideas. Sometimes we barely talk and just lay back and look up at the sky. I love oils in a bath as they coat and hydrate your skin so beautifully and the scent of the flowers, leaves and barks they come from immediately takes you away from your day that was. I often take a while to really relax and need something to do for the first while so a body scrub, face cleanse/mask and face oil is in order. Extended time in a bath, particularly if hot, will deplete your skin of oils and fats. Putting a good oil on prevents this, making it packed full of vitamins is even better. Once this is completed I’m ready to lie back and be still or engage in conversation unrelated to work . And candles! Must have candles or a fire pit burning close by . Sigh.I need to go camping. Gel type cleansers are for areas that like to be cleaned more with water and soaps. Areas that need to have sweat and solutes dissolved and rinsed away with no residue. 18.01.2022 For the past many months we have had many discussions about what a Savant fragrance would be. We’ve spoken to European perfumers and all sat together and smelt some of the most popular perfumes in the world. Then we came to admit that they were not what we were after. You see our noses are now so familiar at naturally occurring scents that to smell a man made fragrance is a very big shift and generally not enjoyed. This was a rather heavy realization to come upon us, and esp...ecially me, as it means we are to start from the very beginning. We start out green, that clean page, that road not travelled. All of us have spoken about a scent we’ve found since then. A smell that moved us somewhere and sometime in our day. When I’m on walks I can smell a small flower hidden in a bush and I am amazed and enthralled. While I’m working on all sorts of other things I’m still thinking and smelling. My staff make exquisite little blends and keep records. We have a perfume note book now, the start of a memorable knowledge bank of scent. I’m afraid it can’t be rushed. But it will be good. Prickly, tingly and warming to use as it softens and dislodges frayed loose dead skin cells on the surface and flushes the underlying skin through with temporary increased blood flow. A mildly acidic mask in a rich creamy base to both smooth and hydrate. Used when skin is sluggish and rough, dry and bumpy. Leave on for 5 to 10mins depending on response your skin feels. 10.01.2022 Vit C&A Oil almost completed. Actually this is a Vit A, C & E Oil as we make it with all three. We just don’t talk about Vit E as much as we should as it’s been so long established as a wonderful skin health ingredient. So yes Vit E, an essential nutrient your body needs to function, but is unable to make itself, is in this oil and our Luminous creams too. Vit E Oil is particularly viscous and persistent on the skin so we don’t use high doses like we do with Vit C or the product would be difficult to wear but the doses are high enough to make their presence known without being uncomfortable #savantapothecary #vitE #healthyskinforlife

04.01.2022 Your skin, the largest organ you have, yet the one most likely by you to be not considered an organ. Unless it’s depleted, damaged or not functioning properly we are often happily ignorant and dismissive of its complexities. We take it for granted. Once it’s been holding you together and protecting you for more than a few decades though, you start to notice it’s physiology. Other than sun and environmental exposure the number one damage contributor I witness is dehydration. P...rolonged, decades spanning, dehydration. It’s such a simple remedy using a body cream or oil or cleansing your long limbs with a milk instead of a surfactant rich gel. 02.01.2022 Back into having oily hands and straight labels today. Over the weekend I donned a wetsuit and attempted surfing for the first time . I spent a lot of time tumbling under the water and feeling like I had no control whatsoever. Had waves smacking me and pushing me back. Had to come in to shore on occasion because my arms had nothing left to give for paddling . As frustrating as it was I loved it when you caught a wave in, it made you yell Ohhhhhh Yeah!!!!. Mind you I’m sti...ll body boarding level as I’m yet to stand up . Thank goodness for good wetsuits that really do work. There’s no way I’d be getting in the cold ocean in August otherwise.
