25.01.2022 Thank you Councillor Kathryn Landsberry for signing the pledge to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. Your support on this issue has never wavered. The community thanks you!

23.01.2022 . Last night 8 councillors (a majority), voted down the rescission motion which saved the immediate demolition of Carss Park Pool. We have bought more time. Council can not bring in the bulldozers as soon as they have an approved DA for the demolition. They must continue and complete the feasibility studies on both Carss Park and Todd Park first. Councillors were told t...hat it would cost an astonishing $65.3m to remediate the land to the standard required to build an aquatic facility (that’s before spending money on actually building the pool!). Are there any remediation experts who can provide an opinion on this? The community thanks Councillors Landsberry, Payor, Hindi, Wu, Katris, Badalati, Symington and Kastanias for standing firm and supporting the community. This is a small win that buys more time, but the fight to Save Carss Park Pool continues.

21.01.2022 Olympic Gold medalist Michelle Ford, who swam and trained at Kogarah War Memorial Pool, was the first to sign the pledge to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. Have you signed the pledge? Sign Now : https://forms.gle/bz9MfcP9tXobNTmT6

21.01.2022 Thank you to Councillor Kathryn Landsberry - Labor for Blakehurst Ward, GRC who continues to put Carss Park Pool on the agenda at Council meetings and continues to ask questions. '"We identified a couple of years ago that we are 7-ha short of what we require for open space in our LGA. "Todd Park contributes to that and that, including the car park, is 4.5-ha. About one-ha of that is the car park.... "That open space is critical to our community and not to be built on as an aquatic centre. "We cannot as custodians of open spaces and parklands be aiming decisions to remove these from the community. "We have a perfectly good existing site at Carss Park and we have a perfectly good sports field, bike track and grassy field at Todd Park. "Once the technical report comes back, potentially not as favourable as some people had hoped, then we can overturn this decision. "I just hope the Carss Park Pool has not been demolished at that stage." https://www.theleader.com.au//results-of-technical-inves/

21.01.2022 . Sonny Bill Williams is a GRC local and has signed the pledge to Rebuild Carss Park Pool and Save Todd Park. It's wonderful to have the support from the great athletes who trained and honed their craft at Carss Park Pool.... Show your support by also signing the pledge today. 21.01.2022 If ever Ive read some spin from GRC, this is it....and its not good news for swimmers. GRC wait til the end of Covid restrictions on aquatic centres before... deciding to do some roof repairs which will see Hurstville Aquatic pool closed til Jan 2021. They call it maximising the opportunity of COVID. Likewise, GRC are maximising the opportunity of Covid at Sans Souci Pool. Thats a very interesting interpretation of the situation to fix the outdoor pool filtration system. One thing is for sure GRC are making sure they maximise all their opportunities of Covid pushing as many things through as they can while the public are shut out of Council meetings, and Councillors can sit in online meetings with their video switched off.

20.01.2022 Former captain of the Wallabies, Phil Kearns signs the pledge to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. Phil represented the Wallabies 67 times and was captain on ten occasions. He was a member of Australia's Rugby World Cup-winning teams of 1991 and 1999, was inducted into the Australian Rugby Hall of Fame in 2018. In 2017 Phil was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the community through support for charitable organisations, to business, and... to rugby union at the elite level. Phil grew up at Connells Point and learnt to swim at Carss Park Pool and continued training there during his rugby career. 18.01.2022 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR https://www.theleader.com.au//sports-barreling-taken-to-a/

17.01.2022 There is a lot of truth to this comment:- 'If there is one thing that any of us have learnt from our great coach Dick Caine, is that a race in won and lost in its final stages, the toughest and most determined will always prevail. I urge everyone to KEEP FIGHTING, THE RACE ISNT OVER YET!!'

17.01.2022 Michelle Ford has been one of the strongest supporters of rebuilding Carss Park Pool right from the beginning and is determined to fight for this iconic pool to be rebuilt where it is for the champions of the future. "I was the first of many former champions, any number of whom would honour the iconic Carss Park Pool and why it should be rebuilt. "I represent all those great champions, from all sports, that have trained through pain and agony at Carss Park Pool to conquer the... world - and this is why I am so passionate about this battle for Carss Park Pool," she said. 'It was a fight to get to Moscow, but standing on the podium in front of the Australian flag with the national anthem playing made it worth it, because it meant so much to so many people," Michelle said. "That's why I feel so strongly about saving the iconic Carss Park Pool, because it means so much to so many in the community', she said. https://www.theleader.com.au//40-years-since-michelle-fo/ to rebuild Carss Park Pool and Save Todd Park https://forms.gle/UHVbKnA9AUonoYie8

17.01.2022 Wouldn’t it be wonderful if in Veterans Health Week, veterans could connect with each other by visiting their War Memorial pool at Carss Park??

16.01.2022 Just what GRC LGA needs.......more cricketing facilities! Our cricketing-loving Mayor says ''Sport facilities in Hurstville will be considerably improved, with construction of a new double storey community pavilion which will include a first floor viewing area with an office and deck, two change rooms and public amenities,'' Meanwhile - still only 3 x25m lanes for all swimmers in the LGA.

15.01.2022 Thank you to Georges River Councillor Rita Kastanias who supports the community and has signed the pledge to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. Clr Kastanias has consistently voted in support of the community to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. *This is Clr Kastanias's view and not the view of Georges River Council.

15.01.2022 Two time World Triathlon Champion Emma Carney signs the pledge to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. Emma is one of a few triathletes in the world to have won two ITU world titles. She was the world number one triathlete in 1995, 1996 and 1997 and achieved 19 World Cup wins. With seven wins in 1996, she also holds the record for the greatest number of ITU World Series wins in a single season. She is an inductee of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame (2016), the International Tr...iathlon Union Hall of Fame (2014), and the Triathlon Australia Hall of Fame (2012). 14.01.2022 highlights the dismal failures by Georges River Council to maintain, and protect and preserve Todd Park and Kogarah War Memorial Pool and compares it to Sydney Park that Sydney City Council has nurtured to make an award-winning and highly functional community asset. 13.01.2022 Letters to the Editor:- Brian Shaw provides some history on service men and woman from St George and gives us a glimpse into the significance of the Kogarah War Memorial Pool. The Heritage study included by Council in the DA documentation for the demolition of this War Memorial does not in any way address the significance of the community value of the Memorial Pool (in fact in the 80-page document, it mentions the word RSL just 6-times and downplays the RSL's contribution to ...the pool). The decision by Mayor Greene and his supporting Councillors not to support the RSL's application for a grant to study the significance of this War Memorial is a disgrace. https://www.theleader.com.au//kogarah-war-memorial-is-si/

13.01.2022 World Triathlon Champion Greg Welch signs the pledge to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. Greg won "The Grand Slam" of the triathlon world, which includes the ITU Triathlon World Championships (1990), The Hawaiian Ironman World Championship (1994), the ITU Duathlon World Championships (1993) and the Long Course Triathlon World Championship (1994). Greg was a Cronulla local and one of the many champions that came across to train at Carss Park Pool to be under Dick Caine.... 13.01.2022 "The amalgamation of Councils was supposed to deliver better services and infrastructure and consolidated administration. "Instead for 12 months, the community has been short-changed without a third aquatic centre, and this has coincided with Sans Souci Leisure Centre outdoor pool being closed twice this year due to pump related issues.... "Likewise Hurstville Aquatic Centre indoor 25m pool remains closed for reasons unexplained, despite government Covid-19 restrictions allowing them to reopen on June 13. "The impact of these closures on people's physical and mental health can not be measured. I have friends who were using these pools for physical rehabilitation from injuries and to maintain good mental health. "On top of this people are missing out on the daily connections they had with friends," Ms Natalie Mort said. "12 months down the track since the closure of Carss Park Pool and we've gotten absolutely nowhere towards a new aquatic centre except a vote to immediately demolish the pool with no clear plan, other than to spend $200,000 on investigating another site. "What is Georges River Council doing to support the physical and mental wellbeing of its ratepayers, except tell us in 6 years time we might have an aquatic facility somewhere?" : https://forms.gle/UHVbKnA9AUonoYie8 in support of rebuilding Carss Park Pool and Saving Todd Park. https://www.theleader.com.au//12-months-since-carss-park/

12.01.2022 'There's no money to build a pool at Jubilee and at a time when the Government has racked up $100 billion of debt - the highest in the history of the State - they're unlikely to find the money any time soon. This brings us back to the only sensible solution for our community. To build Carss Park Pool - the Council must secure the site and begin plans to construct the pool the community needs and wants.' https://www.theleader.com.au//st-george-matters-with-chr/

12.01.2022 Thank you to Councillor Hindi who put forward a motion to allow the public to attend meetings at Georges River Council again, in line with public health orders. Thank you also to James and Ilknur who spoke in support of this motion. Since the start of the pandemic, the public have not been able to attend Council meetings, and if a member of the public wished to address Councillors, they had to submit their speech (often being told they had to make changes to their speech) and... for it to be read out by a Council staff member. Members of the public would be aware that it was during this period that 8 Councillors chose to hide behind their screens with their video cameras turned off and voted to demolish Carss Park Pool and potentially destroy Todd Park. Although Councillors didnt vote to allow us pesky public back into their meetings (even in a limited capacity), we do now at least get to address the Councillors ourselves via a video link. Its small steps back to democracy! https://www.theleader.com.au//georges-river-council-to-a/

12.01.2022 Natalie Mort has signed the pledge to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. Natalie is one of the core members of the Rebuild Carss Park Pool Action Group. When Nat arrived in Australia from Ireland as a 20 year old she didnt know how to swim! It was at Carss Park Pool Nat learnt to swim at the age of 30. She was inspired by the champion athletes training around her and had the determination to improve her skills and went on to follow these athletes and compete in triathlons, ...marathons and IronMan (which is 11.5hrs of non-stop pain to complete a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42.2km run). In 2018 Natalie was ranked No 1 in the World for her age group in IronMan. Nat brings the same endurance and determination she needs to complete an IronMan to the fight to Save Carss Park Pool. We're lucky to have Nat on our team! Sign the Pledge Now : https://forms.gle/bz9MfcP9tXobNTmT6

11.01.2022 Another great letter from Mairead O'Connor about Carss Park Pool. https://www.theleader.com.au//leaf-blowers-at-6-am-are-d/

11.01.2022 Thank you Chris Minns MP for clarifying your comments in this Leader article. We agree. Any investment and redevelopment of Jubilee Oval does not replace the need and obligation of Georges River Council to replace an existing community aquatic facility; the Kogarah War Memorial Pool at Carss Park. https://www.theleader.com.au//mps-welcome-oval-investment/

09.01.2022 2 letters this week featuring Carss Park Pool; - ?

08.01.2022 Readers are fired up this week:- A reader thanks for alerting the public about Council's secret plans to dispose of publi...c land and has a telling message for Councillors ' ' questions whether the residents in new developments at Todd Park want their parkland tranquility replaced with screaming kids . has an idea to 'Adopt a Park' highlights the lack of accurate information being fed to the public about Carss Park / Todd Park and the huge impact the projected 1.2m visits to a new aquatic centre would have on traffic and the residents of Blakehurst and Carss Park

08.01.2022 I remember Emma continued to training with a broken foot at Carss Park Pool with Dick Caine, treading water with a belt on through winter, She went onto win a World Championship 4 weeks later, Her dedication to the sport of Triathlonis still evident as is her passion for Kogarah War Memorial Pool that has nurtured so many wonderful athletes. Please support the pledge that these athletes are passionate about.

08.01.2022 Thank you to Oatley Flora and Fauna Conservation Society for supporting the pledge to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park and demonstrating to the 8 x Councillors that voted to demolish Kogarah War Memorial Pool that the community support for Carss Park Pool and Todd Park runs right across the Local Government Area. 06.01.2022 asks where Georges River Mayor Kevin Greene and State MPs Mark Coure (Oatley) and David Coleman (Banks) have been in the fight to stop tolls and get traffic off local roads and reminds them that this issue is more important than picture opportunities (of which Kevin and Mark seem to feature prominently!). ' wonders if there is something that Georges River Council does not want the public to see or hear after they closed the...ir July Council Meeting to a confidential session for almost 2 hours, just 1 hour after the meeting opened! Suzanne suggests a simple (and the usual) solution that confidential items be discussed at the end of the meeting. . expresses disappointment in Georges River Councils failing regard for community engagement and highlights the Councils Community Engagement Strategy which has the heading 'Why is Community Engagement Important?'. 03.01.2022 A lot of questions about the drilling and work going on around Carss Park Pool. Councillor Kathryn Landsberry has a Question with Notice at this coming Monday nights Council Meeting. According to the Officer's response, it seems this technical work is in preparation for the development application for the pool demolition. The DA needs to go on public exhibition and go to the Local Planning Panel to be approved before the pool could be demolished.

01.01.2022 ? Georges River Council spent $39,500 for consultants to do a feasibility study on building... a sports museum in the LGA. The consultants contacted 74 local sporting organisations as part of their stakeholder feedback. In the St George Area there are at least 6 Swim Clubs (and believe it or not, 2 of the 8 Councillors who voted to demolish Carss Park Pool are involved with 2 of these swim clubs!). Despite this, NOT ONE swimming club was contacted out of 74 sporting organisations! On top of this, the consultants also did a community survey to ascertain whether the community wanted a sports museum, and if they did, what they would like to see in it. There were a series of questions asked, which included the 3 outlined below. Each question provided 9 suggested answers. Q. What sports, if any, do you personally participate in? Q. What sports, if any, do you watch (in person, on TV, via the web etc)? Q. If a sports museum was set up, what sports do you think it should focus on? Swimming was not a suggested answer for any of the above 3 questions. Sports listed were Football Rugby Union Rugby League Netball Basketball Tennis Cricket Athletics Cycling. See for yourself. Go to page 38 / 39 of the PDF below:- https://infoweb.georgesriver.nsw.gov.au//COM_13072020_AGN_ ? Not only is Swimming one of the most participated sports in Australia (http://www.roymorgan.com//7498-sports-participation-austra) its also Australias most successful Olympic Sport (https://www.swimming.org.au/olympic-history.). It is also one of the few sports where women are on an equal footing with men in terms of involvement, coverage and representation. 108 years ago, Fanny Durack & Mina Wylie became Australia's 1st female Olympians when they competed in the 100m freestyle swimming heats at the Stockholm 1912 Olympic Games - they went on to win Gold and Silver respectively. Discover more: https://www.olympics.com.au/games/stockholm-1912/ Yet, still not one Swimming Club is contacted out of 74 sports organisations regarding a Sports Museum for our local area. https://www.theleader.com.au//dream-of-a-permanent-georg/

01.01.2022 Olympian Janelle Pallister (nee Elford) signs the pledge to Save Carss Park Pool and Todd Park. Janelle qualified for the Olympic final in both the 400m and 800m freestyle at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and won a Gold, Silver and Bronze medal at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. In Janelles tribute to Dick Caine (which you can read here http://www.teamcaine.com.au/tribute_janelle.html) she explains her success after joining Carss Park Pool;...
