24.01.2022 Today I met with some of the parents of kids at Thorpdale Kindergarten. They are very concerned that the temporary move to Trafalgar due to building issues ...will morph into a permanent closure. Basic services like a kindergarten are vitally important for all communities and especially small rural communities where they represent the life-blood of a town. You loose the kinder and young families drift away and a slow spiral of decline begins. We’ve seen it happen in Erica. My commitment is to actively explore all options to try to avoid this fate for Thorpdale. See more

23.01.2022 Please read below the media statement from the YMCA regarding the future of the Thorpdale kindergarten continuing in Thorpdale This is a clear commitment Our priority at this point is to get the kinder to a temporary premises for term 4. Works towards this being at the school are positive, although yet to be finalised by DET. We are hopeful that this will be done as a matter of urgency, and relevant adjustments to the school space can be made over the school holidays (we... have extended the kinder holidays by a week to give another week, first kinder session to be October 12th) Thank you everyone for your support and concern - what a week! 21.01.2022 For further context, see below. I don’t want there to be misinformation about this situation. The YMCA has pointed to ‘upgrades’ We have no indication what these upgrades include, and there are no scheduled works currently The words ‘look to recommence the program in Thorpdale’ are NOT good enough. ... The Thorpdale community has been blindsided by this knee jerk reaction and swept into the too hard basket. Thank you again for everyone’s support

20.01.2022 Kinder is to resume at the hall facility as soon as is practicable Hopefully this will be week 1 of term 4, but potentially week 2. Thanks go to the Hall Committee who are working towards this, although the hall will be a 'temporary kinder' for the time being This is a fantastic outcome for our children and families who have had a very disrupted year already. Our focus is on the children, always, and right now getting them to a safe and happy space for the remainder of... 2020 looks to have been achieved Working with the YMCA, Baw Baw shire, the kinder PAG, the school and the Thorpdale community the push towards a future permanent kinder on the school grounds will be our priority Thank you for the support, stay tuned for more details in the future regarding a new kinder, that support will still need to be utilised #smallcommunitybighearts

12.01.2022 The Hall Committee has always been fully supportive of the kinder and provided us with a beautiful play and learning space In the PAG’s opinion the facility has never looked better, currently with new paint and sanded and polished floors As Thorpdale families and community members we all look forward to continuing to use the facility, potentially in different ways
