16.01.2022 PUTTING HORSE PURSUITS BEFORE PEOPLE!!! The Rathdowney & District Memorial Grounds Association has served eviction notices to all permanent residents in the caravan park. They have cited the reason as voluntary closure of the park for significant maintenance works. PERMANENT CLOSURE!!! FORCED RESETTLEMENT!!! The committee voted not to carry out the work. The works are an essential upgrade required by SRRC when conducting an audit of the memorial grounds around the middle ...of last year. As well as the Caravan Park, there is significant electrical work required to be done on the other half of the grounds which includes the Sporting Field (mainly used by Soccer Club) and the Cattle Yards & Drafting Oval (mainly used for horse activities, e.g. Pony Club and also a Campdraft usually held once a year). The RDMGA committee voted to only spend the money on the Horse Activities area and close the Caravan Park with the clear knowledge that this would force the Permanent Residents out with nowhere else to go, to have to leave the town, district, social network and friends that they have made over the years. Some of the residents have lived in this area all of their lives. This page has been created to try to overturn this heartless and selfish decision. We welcome opinions from both sides of this discussion, but ask that there be no unwarranted personal attacks, trolling, bullying or expletive language without the use of ***** asterisks. Anyone not adhering to the rules will be blocked and have their comments removed. Our aim is to show the RDMGA committee how our community feels about this decision.
