25.01.2022 Goose and Mrs Hollywood are two of the most affectionate, amusing little characters in the shelter right now. Mrs Hollywood, 2 years old, black and white, arrived here with her five kittens after being found in Toorak. She was very fearful and hissed a lot, but has since undergone a real transformation. She now loves attention from staff and volunteers, pops up on her back legs for a stroke, purrs a lot and has a rather cute but quiet little miaow. She plays happily with o...ther cats, and has become very social. Her perfect home would be an indoor life with quiet with owners who were home a lot. She doesn’t need to live with another cat, but a social, confident, older cat could help her build her confidence even more. Older teenagers in the household would be fine, but not young children. Mrs Hollywood likes her toys, is independent, and at this stage isn’t keen on being picked up. With lots of love and patience, we’re sure she’ll improve on that score. Mrs Hollywood is a Domestic Short Hair Female ~3 years old Microchip Number: 956000007841891 Source Number: BR100902 See more an apply here https://saveadog.org.au/animals-adoptions/cat/all/3692/ Goose, a 4 year old ginger cat, is an amazingly affectionate boy who was surrendered to us. He comes running up as soon as staff or volunteers approach him, he adores strokes, head butts for more pats, loves exploring and is a real character. While he’s not great with other cats, he loves dogs and would be fine with kids aged 10 or older. He’d need an indoor/outdoor lifestyle with a secure cat run or courtyard, as he roamed a lot in his previous home. Goose is very food motivated, he’s independent but is easily handled. 22.01.2022 It's Happy Adoption Tale time!!! "Our beautiful old dog Mikey, formerly Marty who we rescued from you approximately 12 years ago. He will be 18 this September according to his microchip details. Mikey was one of the sad dogs that was returned numerous times and was in your care for 18 months off and on. Just wanted to share that he is still going strong at the ripe old age of 17. A bit deaf and cataracts have cost him some eyesight but hasn’t affected his quality of life "... Here's Mikey with his best friend Hayley. We're so glad he finally found a home to love him, unconditionally, forever..... If you've adopted from us - we'd love to hear from you. You can email us at [email protected] or send us a private message.

19.01.2022 What breeds can you see in me? One challenge we often face when dogs like Nadia arrive at the shelter, is determining a breed to list. Regulations insist, we must list at least one breed. Often, this is easy enough, but sometimes it’s not easy at all. And so, we do our best. We call on our years of expertise amongst staff, look at things like coat type, colour, length, their head shape, ear shape, eye colour. Are their tales fluffy, long, short or curly? How big are they? Wha...t’s their body shape/composition? How muscular are they are they sleek or do they have a barrel chest. Do they have any giveaway characteristics, like a herding drive, a chasing drive, or do they feel the need to sniff everything? We may not know exactly what breed Nadia is, but we do know one thing, she is 100% beautiful, and has the best nature. Tell us what breeds can you see? You can find out more about Nadia and the type of home she's looking for here https://saveadog.org.au/animals-adoptions/dog/all/3716/

11.01.2022 Our beautiful, handsome and gentle Cooper came into care with painful hip dysplasia. Being such a young and utterly special natured dog he just tried to get on with life as best he could, but his pain was evident. We sent him off to our specialist orthopaedic surgeon for diagnosis and opinion. Cooper needed surgery on both hips to have any chance at a pain free life. Cooper has now had both hip surgeries and is recovering in foster care. He’ll soon be beginning swimming se...ssions with his foster carer to help with his rehabilitation. Coopers surgery cost $1500 per hip, and his 6 swimming/rehab sessions will be $95 for the first $75 each for the rest. Cooper has the most incredible nature and has so stoically managed throughout this all. When dogs like Cooper come into our care we’re so glad we can be there for them and provide them with the help they need to go on to live happy, fulfilling and pain free lives. One of our amazing supporters has donated to cover the initial cost of one of his surgery. For this we are so very grateful. We’d be very appreciative of any assistance with the outstanding costs of surgery and rehabilitation for Cooper which is around $2000. Thank you on behalf of Cooper and all at Save-A-Dog Scheme.

09.01.2022 Mr Willis, aged 5, is a fairly chilled boy who came from a cat colony. He’s currently on foster, has responded really well, and has grown to enjoy attention, belly rubs and brushing. We expect he will take time to settle in a new environment and may be fearful until he is feeling safe, as he was when he first went into foster. He’d be best in an indoor environment with experienced owners who are around a lot, who have another laid-back male cat or who would be happy to take H...erb (our last featured cat) and Mr Willis together. That would be the perfect home for both of them, as they are good mates. Mr Willis LOVES his catnip, he’s food motivated and would become a couch cat with a little encouragement. He’d be fine with teenagers, but not with young children. Mr Willis is a Domestic Short Hair Male ~5 years old Microchip Number: 956000007447253 Source Number: BR100902 See more and apply to adopt Mr Willis here https://saveadog.org.au/animals-adoptions/cat/all/3351/

05.01.2022 Ready for a happy tale? When Bobo came to SADS he was a very timid little boy. He needed a special, understanding home and that's just what he found! His human Anna writes:... "I adopted Bobo in September last year. He was very skittish at first. Didn’t like humans or other dogs. With a lot of love. Good diet and lots of training he has become the best companion. We go to the dog beach together every other weekend. He has an array of outfits for the never ending change of climate in Melbourne. He is happy. Is learning tricks. Has put on some weight! And is the best thing in 2020 that happened to me." Thank you Anna we're so glad to hear how you have both made a difference in each others lives. We love happy adoption tales, so if you've adopted from us, please send yours through to [email protected] or send us a PM.

03.01.2022 Our Toby has such a lovely nature, and just adores company. His favorite thing in life is spending time with you. He is toilet trained and used to being inside. But poor Toby has some anxiety issues. He's looking for an understanding home, who can work with his quirks. If you think that may be you, we'd love to hear from you. 01.01.2022 All is well at hound camp. Frank's strange sore on his pad (near the dew claw) has healed up and gone. Larry's eyes need a regular clean but aren't inflamed, so all good there. Larry has also had Bowen therapy and has been surprisingly playful since. No signs of lameness. Providing they are separated at mealtimes, there are very few issues. I feed them quite often as it seems to curb the desire to hunt. They get breakfast, lunch, dinner and sometimes morning tea. Small meal...s so they're not overweight. Larry sleeps 90% of the time (sometimes I have to wake him up for dinner). They have free access to a large garden area. For dogs that are supposed to have a desire to escape they spend a lot of time asking to come inside, so they can drape themselves over the sofa! It's quite handy that Larry sleeps a lot. On a morning (usually about 4.30am), I can sneak Frank out for a run without Larry knowing. Larry has 1-2 walks per week anywhere from 2-5km. That seems to be enough for him, as he has a big garden to play in and his hobbies are sleeping and eating. Larry is now running 10-12km 2-3 times a week. He really enjoys it and doesn't pull - just settles in and runs alongside on the left. He used to have a big sleep after but now he's so fit he's not tired just hungry. He doesn't pull up sore so it seems to be a good distance for him. Frank's favourite pastime is still stealing slippers and soft toys whereas Larry likes to enjoy a comfortable 18 hours sleep per day. Both are currently helping with babysitting a couple of orphaned lambs (they seem to know they're not on the menu). Thank you to Yvonne for the lovely update on the boys! We love updates, so if you’ve adopted from us we’d love to hear from you. You can email us at [email protected] or send us a private message.

01.01.2022 Prior to the lockdown, we had a visit fom Cr Kate Hely promoting the very important volunteer week :)
