25.01.2022 It was snowing this afternoon outside of Civic Hall.

25.01.2022 GOVHUB is now on the market......the community has now lost a valuable space forever as the government will not own the proposed Lower Civic Hall replacement so therefore will have no control over it. https://www.facebook.com/108402516440/posts/10156224030496441/

24.01.2022 The lie about the 'reconstructed Lower Hall" is still on their website - "The GovHub design includes: A glass conservatory between the Civic Hall and the GovHub that will create a strong public link between Civic Hall and the new building A reconstructed ‘lower hall’ space. This will be a shared space that can be used for a café/bar, gallery or live music venue ... etc"... https://www.development.vic.gov.au//Ballarat-GovHub-Newsle

24.01.2022 Thanks to all the wonderful people who've contacted us with stories about the Civic Hall. Keep them coming! Today we met a South Street calisthenics girl 1958 - 65, who showed us photos, programmes & articles from these times. Thanks so much Merrilyn.

21.01.2022 Who's going to buy it? A foreign investor perhaps? Once it is sold there is no community input into the promised Civic Space. $115 million into the government purse will ensure it is lost forever. https://www.facebook.com/1003639753067452/posts/2344753148956099/

20.01.2022 A date for your diary. Save Civic Hall is to have its first AGM at 5.30pm, Monday 25 November at the Ballarat Trades Hall, 24 Camp St. We'd love to see you there. BTHLC Secretary, Brett Edgington will speak about his connections with the Civic Hall & related issues.

20.01.2022 Another marvelous chat, this time with Jenny who often took leading roles in musicals & theatre at Her Maj & the Civic Hall. She showed us photos of Ballarat Light Opera Company's 'Mikado', 1961 in the Lower Hall and shared new pictures of the Bicentenary Ball of 1988. It's terrific to talk to people who were there and have stories to tell.

17.01.2022 Summer leaves soften the image. With winter sunlight revealing past and present. The majestic in structure- Saluting proud neighbours. Celebrating... Echoing Renewing. Contemporary thought, contemplating Streetscape. Dolores Nolan Reid. July 2020.

17.01.2022 Join us at the Civic Hall to celebrate its 63rd anniversary. Music by Sister Sound, a spectacular cake, tea, coffee and a few bubbles! Tuesday 20 August, 10.30am.

16.01.2022 If you haven't been to the Civic Hall site lately here is an update on the progress of the Govhub which now dwarfs the Civic Hall.

14.01.2022 A big thank you to everyone who attended the 63rd Anniversary event for the original Civic Hall opening. Thanks to Mayor Samantha McIntosh , Deputy Mayor Jim Rinaldi and Councilor Belinda Coates and also MP Juliana Addison for attending and making the event so memorable We particularly thank Sister Sound for providing the entertainment for this morning's event.

14.01.2022 A hidden treasure in Queenstown, Tasmania. The Art Deco Paragon Theatre, like Civic Hall, was nearly lost several times. The current owners with assistance from the local community & Malcolm Turnbull’s government, have beautifully restored & adapted it. Now shows 50s/60s films with option of dinner prior. Don’t miss it though there’s little info in Tas tourist brochures.

13.01.2022 Win TV News tonight. It was a fun event - thanks to Samantha McIntosh and Sister Sound - Vickie-Maree Bickie Michelle Fillmore, and everyone who came.

10.01.2022 Janet Dore has been appointed the interim CEO. It will be interesting to see how she will lead the current Stage 2 programme of works at the Civic Hall - including building a new commercial kitchen in the basement, & installing a proper lighting system. We're hoping they also addresses asap the lack of ticket office and snack bar - basic requirements of any public hall - and an improved sound system. https://www.thecourier.com.au//janet-dore-returns-to-town/

08.01.2022 Everyone is welcome to come to the AGM. Brett Edgington will be speaking on his involvement with Civic Hall. He is a very good speaker and not to be missed.

07.01.2022 Join me, Judith Buchanan on 99.9 VoiceFM Community Radio at 4-6pm tomorrow (Tuesday)for the Drive Time program. Save Civic Hall Strategy Chairman Rod Broadbent will be joining me to talk about the 63rd anniversary event of the original opening of the hall on August 20 1956 and we will be playing the hits of pop and rock artists who graced the stage of Civic Hall. If you're interested in what's happening at the Civic Hall site and listening to great music then tune in to 99.9 VoiceFM for this special edition of Drive

06.01.2022 Angelsea’s Loveridge Lookout, designed by the architect of the Civic Hall, has now received State Heritage Listing. It's a pity that Council still has not even given it local Heritage Listing, despite the Heritage Council Victoria recommending this twice. We will keep asking!

04.01.2022 The newly elected Committee meets today to discuss our plan for upcoming months. Meanwhile, the Hall is seeing plenty of all sorts of action, from Murphy’s Pugs Irish Band to Australia Day protests. Sadly the monster next door that lost us the Lower Hall rears its ugly head.

03.01.2022 Introducing Graeme Hood, the latest person to contact us with great information about the Civic Hall where he was a sparkie, then entrepreneur. He arranged a visit with Council's Daniel Henderson & Jess, viewing areas we haven't seen before - The long corridor is under the east side aisle. The new kitchen will be at the far end & will be available for community use. It's looking good!

02.01.2022 Thursday marked the 64th anniversary of the original opening of the Civic Hall on August 20 1956. Sadly this year there were no celebrations due to the Covid19 restrictions. In previous years we celebrated with some amazing cakes that were works of art by our extraordinary baker. Sadly she passed away this week on Wednesday August 19 after the fight of her life from Leukaemia. We honour Colleen's life with a glimpse of some of the cakes she made for the Civic Hall's anniversaries. RIP Colleen

01.01.2022 Tonight a full orchestra performed at the Civic Hall. The MSO musicians were full of praise for the ACOUSTICS as well as the appearance. They loved its warm, giving sound! Concertmaster, Dale Barltrop said it was the best hall they’ve played at on this tour.
