25.01.2022 Construction is underway for WA's newest microgrid! This new project is being designed and managed by Western Power and is based in Kalbarri. Kalbarri currently get their power by a 140km long rural power line from Geraldton which is exposed to the elements, interference on this line can be extremely costly not just for the town itself, but from a maintenance perspective.... At 5MW, it will be one of Australia’s largest microgrids to run in complete renewable mode, which means it can draw energy solely from the connected wind farm and feed-in from residential rooftop solar panels. Oh and it also features a 4.5MWh battery! Save Energy have expertise in Off-Grid and Grid-connected Solar PV customised systems, this means we can create an off grid power system for remote areas eliminating the need to run and maintain power lines to these areas. 13.01.2022 Oddly satisfying to look at This is the Benban Photovoltaic Complex, a photovoltaic plant in Egypt with a total a rated capacity of 150 megawatts (MW) - 186 MWp which was recently completed a few months ago. Interesting facts about this complex...... Total investment around USD180m Estimated average annual energy output: 456 GWh. Clean energy enough to power 150,000 Egyptian homes. More than 297,000 tonnes of CO2 avoided from fuel-oil thermal power plants annually. 572,322 solar modules in the three plants. Save Energy 1300 88 44 02 www.saveenergy.com.au/

13.01.2022 Have you ever wondered how a solar system actually works? Below is a brief outline of the key points. The sun shines on the solar panels generating DC electricity. The DC electricity is fed into a solar inverter that converts it to 240V 50Hz AC electricity.... The 240V AC electricity is used to power appliances in your home. Surplus electricity is fed back into the main grid. Whenever the sun shines (and even in overcast weather), the solar cells generate electricity. The grid connect inverter converts the DC electricity produced by the solar panels into 240V AC electricity, which can then be used by the property/household. If a grid connect system is producing more power than is being consumed, the surplus is fed into the mains power grid. Some electricity companies will meter the electricity fed into the grid by your system and provide a credit on your bill. How much you are paid is determined by the feed-in tariff. When the solar cells are not producing power, for example at night, your power is supplied by the mains power grid as usual. The energy retailer charges the usual rate for the power used. 12.01.2022 Is this the way of the future? Rather than having individual solar panels built onto your roof, picture your entire roof being embedded with solar cells. This means your whole roof is an entire solar panel that could produce 3 times the energy needs of an average family home.... This new technology is expected to be cheaper than building a roof and adding solar technology to it. Save Energy 1300 88 44 02 www.saveenergy.com.au/

11.01.2022 #DidYouKnow that Queensland now has roughly three solar panels per person? It’s not called the sunshine state for nothing! While this is a major step in the right direction, QLD still has a way to go in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and getting on track to meet its renewables target Where do you think WA stands compared to Queensland?

05.01.2022 Nike are doing it Nike’s has opened a new distribution centre powered by 100% renewable energy, achieving a major milestone in a move to zero carbon and zero waste. This new distribution centre called the Court, uses 100% renewable energy from wind, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric and biomass energy as primary sources.... The 1.5 million square foot (140,000 sqm) facility, which is used to assist with the increase growing consumer demand and faster delivery of products. 99% inbound containers to the facility are transferred by water. This eliminates around 14,000 truck journeys each year, reducing associated carbon emissions. And... if that wasn't already enough, more than 95% of waste generated on-site is recycled. 04.01.2022 For the first time ever, utility company Horizon Power has removed traditional infrastructure and convinced customers to get off the grid. Horizon Power is now installing 17 further solar units on farms east of Esperance to provide stand alone off grid power solutions. They will then tear down about 60 kilometres of ageing power lines, which reduces the amount of maintenance required. No longer will they have to regularly send out a linesman to inspect and patrol the lines, i...nstead they will only have to send someone out once a year to inspect the solar units. 02.01.2022 Australia’s first solar farm built on a capped landfill site has been commissioned in Albury, New South Wales. Situated at Albury Waste Management Centre, the facility is a 1.1MW (AC) PV power station consisting of 4,000 solar panels. Decommissioned landfill sites can be an excellent platform for generating solar energy as often they can’t be used for other developments due to contamination issues. ... For WA in South Fremantle, we have a 4.9MW facility in the pipeline to be situated on an old landfill site. Great to see solar farms being put to use on a wide range of areas, from lakes to old landfilled sites. What areas do you think will be next for solar farms?
