25.01.2022 New Pool gets a bit closer Council recently approved over $23 million to be spent on redeveloping Dence Park - with a new 8 lane outdoor pool, new facilities and lift, and an indoor 25 metre pool. Thanks to the three Epping Ward councillors for getting this through. Unfortunately, though, council delayed approving an extra $1 million to finish off a lovely new children's waterplay area - a decision that makes no sense as all the work should be done in one go. ... And the design bears no resemblance to the one in the Masterplan that council spent $500k on last year. That was an unworkable proposal, but this new design has removed the gym and cafe. Again, this is shortsighted as the more the centre offers, the more the community will use it. Why are we being shortchanged with this? Watch out for the detailed designs which are coming soon and which you will be able to comment on.

15.01.2022 Final Masterplan now out and goes to Council on 9 Dec! And there are some interesting changes since the first draft. In particular, it is now proposed to rebuild the 50 metre main pool and extend it into a full 8 lane x 50 metres. This rebuild would ensure the pool will last well into the future, as the current pool is 50 years old! It will still be outdoors and gorgeous. In addition, the new smaller pool is defined as 25 metres and fully indoor. We need to make sure it is open to the public, not just a learn to swim facility. 08.01.2022 New pool complex is kick started! Parramatta Council has now approved a key paper that will start the rebuild of the Dence Park pool. Funding is in place for a great new 8 lane outdoor pool, a new 25 metre indoor pool, and a fun water area for toddlers. The Masterplan also includes a new aquatic centre building with new amenities, a lift, cafe and gym. More funding will be needed to complete the full Dence Park Masterplan vision - but council will now include the project as... one of the 'shovel ready' items for the Local Government area that they will lobby State Government to give additional support to. The rebuild could keep locals in building jobs over the next year, as well as give Epping a terrific facility for the next 50 years! Thanks to the Epping Ward councillors (Bill Tyrrell, Donna Davis and Lorraine Wearne) for guiding the plan through and being great advocates for Epping.

06.01.2022 New Dence Park concept plan Have your say now on the concept plan for the future Epping pool. What do we like? The new 8 lane rebuilt outdoor pool is great. And the new 25 metre indoor pool is essential (just make sure it is multi functional). Then there are ticks for lift access and new change rooms. But ... why are they delaying building the new kids splash areas? And why did they promise a cafe and gym in the Masterplan to only drop them now? Isn't it very short sighted ...(and potentially costly) to only do half the project now? Epping deserves a proper facility for the next half a century.
