20.01.2022 Today is the last day to make a submission for the City of Parramatta Council Harmonization of the Local Environment Plan. Submissions are to be made by 5pm. https://participate.cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au/draft-LEP
19.01.2022 It looks like it is time for the City of Parramatta Council's Lord Mayor to visit Epping if he thinks there is no tree removal and lack of replacement problems.
19.01.2022 Taller height controls for Epping coming soon The Epping Commercial Floor Space Review has been completed. The Council officers recommendations will be considered at the Parramatta Local Planning Panel meeting 3.30pm on 29 September 2020. Details are on page 761 at https://businesspapers.parracity.nsw.gov.au//LPP_29092020_ This includes 3 options... Option 1: no change to planning controls, that is, based on current development trends, provision of only ground floor retail/business floor space, or Option 2: mandate a minimum amount of non-residential floor space within the current maximum floor space ration (FSR) and height controls; or Option 3: mandate a minimum amount of non-residential floor space in addition to the current permitted maximum floor space ration and height controls. This probably means adding another 10 or more storeys to what is already permitted. If you wish to speak or address the Panel you need to request this in writing by 12 noon the day prior to the meeting. Details on how to apply to address the Panel can be found here: https://www.cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au//local-planning-pa
19.01.2022 500 ideas were submitted for the NSW Government Public Spaces Ideas Competition. This included an entry called Epping's Vibrant Heart for revitalizing the former Epping Bowling Club site (725 Blaxland Road, Epping NSW). The Entries are amazing and can be seen at https://sydney.org.au/psic/view-entries/ Epping's entry can be seen at https://sydney.org.au/psic/entry/eppings-vibrant-heart/
18.01.2022 Forest Park now has a Street Library thanks to the City of Parramatta Council. It has been observed to be popular. A local resident kindly painted it in heritage colours so it will fit in with the park being a Heritage Item. We have also heard that funds have been granted for more plants in the park.
17.01.2022 The City of Parramatta Council's attack on heritage continues... Currently on exhibition is a proposal for changes to the Development Application process including removing the need to notify residents of tree applications to remove trees from Heritage Items and Heritage Conservation Areas. This proposal is part of the Harmonisation process for the DCPs and LEPs from the amalgamated council areas including from Hornsby Council. Please ask for these DATs to continue to be on exhibiton for 14 day. Details can be seen at https://participate.cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au/DA-notifica
17.01.2022 Yes what a great idea...Councilors????
16.01.2022 It would be lovely to see some improvements in Epping's laneways too. This includes the laneway between Rawson Street and Beecroft Road which currently has dead plants in the planter boxes. Or have Epping's laneways already been sold without letting the community know?
13.01.2022 New Zealand has set up an app through which people can sponsor and monitor trees. Meanwhile the City of Parramatta Council remains in the tree dark ages. A Tree Canopy Motion, to get reports for the Councilors on the Council's tree processes with a view to improving the tree canopy, passed during the Council meeting 26 October was Rescinded on 9 November 2020. The Councilors said there is no need for the reports as the Councilors are lay people who have no right to direct... the expert staff managing tree processes. Following this logic do we need Councilors? If the 15 Councilors are made redundant the costs saved could fund a lot of infrastructure for the LGA. While this may not be a serious suggestion it is to show how the Councilors reasons for the Recession Motion were also lacking in logic. https://foresttech.events/tree-planting-app-launches-crowd/ See more
13.01.2022 We beg to differ in our opinion about buildings which need bulldozing. The Hon Dominic Perrottet could start with the ugly towers in his electorate in Epping!
11.01.2022 The City of Parramatta Council has 13 different plans of management which apply to parks and reserves which come from different Council areas now within the Parramatta LGA. They now want to form one plan. Have your say in forming this plan https://participate.cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au/plan-of-man Submissions close 14 December 2020
11.01.2022 The City of Parramatta Council currently has the Dence Park Plan on exhibition
10.01.2022 What is happening at the Austino site in Epping (the site to the north of Forest Park along Epping Road)? Good question! On 9 December 2020, PPSSCC- DA/397/2020 for this site was considered at a Sydney Central City Planning Panel (Planning Panel) meeting. 46 submissions had been received and Council recommended to reject the DA. On the 14 December the Planning Panel's Determination Notice recorded a rejection of the DA. It includes 15 reasons why the DA was rejected such... as traffic issues, lack of open communal space for social interactions, poor ventilation, issues with the building design and various environmental issues. Transport for NSW did not support having the access for the development in Blaxland Road near the intersection with Epping Road. The removal of the row of Brush Box trees from the adjoining Forest Park was not supported. During the Planning Panel meeting the developer asked for the decision to be deferred so they could address the issues identified by the City of Parramatta Council. However, this request was not granted. It was noted during the Planning Panel meeting that during the application period the proponent had lodged an appeal to the Land & Environment Court and had not addressed the Planning Panel's concerns. So it remains to be seen if this DA will now be considered by the Land & Environment Court in its current form or if changes will be made. This DA did not include the former Epping Bowling Club site (725 Blaxland Road) - although it did include aspects in the plans which would impinge on the Bowling Club site and require some rezoning of it. So the future of the former Bowling Club site still remains in question. We continue to hope for the Council to acquire this site to provide more green/open/recreational space for Epping's growing population.
10.01.2022 It would be good to see a similar variety of community facilities provided for Epping's growing population. Surely all the Development Contributions collected in Epping could fund this.
06.01.2022 Epping Public School's new building was meant to fit in with the heritage of the area but the approved plan was changed and instead we got an ugly blue building which does not fit in. Replacement tree plantings were also promised but the Department of Education failed to deliver on this too. Surely the Government can afford to plant some more trees to replace the 23 trees removed. Photos include the actual building compared with the photomontage and stamped plan for what was promised.
04.01.2022 The Carlingford to Epping Cycleway is now on exhibition again https://participate.cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au/eppingtocar Please consider making a submission to save the tree on Midson Road, Epping
04.01.2022 The City of Parramatta Council currently has an Epping and Carlingford travel survey https://participate.cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au/epping-and-
04.01.2022 Oh no... Topiary in Rawson Street, Epping NSW burnt today. This has been a favorite café for so many Epping residents for a long time. We are thinking of the wonderful, friendly staff. Hopefully no one was hurt.
01.01.2022 The City of Parramatta Council has received a grant for trees. As many of the comments on the Council's website indicate this is little compensation for all the mature trees removed and many of the new trees planted die through neglect. Let's hope some of the funds are spent on tree maintenance and tree education.
