24.01.2022 Save Middle Head - around the harbour foreshore from Little Manly and another prime example of community sentiment about publicly owned land being ignored by government. Please support their petition if you are as passionate as we are about the protection of our precious and irreplaceable harbour foreshore.

24.01.2022 UPDATE TO DEMOLITION OF 36 STUART STREET - a fantastic step forward with the demolition of the house now complete and come Spring we should have the area grassed and ready for families and the community to enjoy a lovely extended picnic area! SLMBF will stay on Manly Council to follow through to protect and preserve our irreplaceable harbour foreshore.

22.01.2022 Meeting at Manly Council tonight adopted the recommendations of the last Public Domains Advisory Committee (PDAC) to demolish the house on 36 Stuart St, with the General Manager on question from Councillor Heasman committing to demolition works being completed by the end of this financial year. This is progress and reflects the dedication of your passionate committee to keep at this Council to honour the judgement of the NSW Land & Environment Court and keep our irreplaceable harbour foreshore in public hands

22.01.2022 Lest We Forget.... With their hair a little whiter, their step not quite so sure Still they march on proudly as they did the year before. Theirs were the hands that saved us, their courage showed the way... Their lives they laid down for us, that we may live today. From Gallipoli's rugged hillsides, to the sands of Alamein On rolling seas and in the skies, those memories will remain. Of airmen and the sailors, of Lone Pine and Suvla Bay The boys of the Dardenelles are remembered on this day. They fought their way through jungles, their blood soaked desert sands They still remember comrades who rest in foreign lands. They remember the siege of old Tobruk, the mud of the Kokoda Trail Some paying the supreme sacrifice with courage that did not fail. To the icy land of Korea, the steamy jungles of Vietnam And the heroic battle of Kapyong and that epic victory at Long Tan. Fathers, sons and brothers, together they fought and died That we may live in peace together, while at home their mothers cried. When that final bugle calls them to cross that great divide Those comrades will be waiting when they reach the other side. Ken Bunker

20.01.2022 Hear the interview on 2GB this morning between Alan Jones and Federal Minister for the Environment Greg Hunt in the lead up to tomorrow's public board meeting of the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust www.harbourtrust.gov.au The campaign to Save Middle Head needs your support so please share this link with your networks - Sydney's harbour foreshore land is precious and irreplaceable and our military heritage is part of our national DNA and must be protected.

19.01.2022 REZONING OF 38 STUART STREET MANLY The Manly Mayor, Jean Hay and her Liberal Party colleagues (Steve Pickering, James Griffin, Alan Le Surf and Adele Heasman) and the Independent Councillor Candy Bingham, passed a resolution to spot rezone 38 Stuart St from Open Space to Residential (E4) at the Manly Council meeting of December 2013. The Independent Councillors Hugh Burns and Barbara Aird and the Green Councillor Cathy Griffin, opposed the spot rezoning. Since 1948, The Count...y of Cumberland Planning Scheme, and each succeeding Manly Council has maintained the Open Space Zoning on all the properties behind Little Manly Beach. At this time, Manly Council owns three of the four properties behind LM beach, 34, 36 and 40 Stuart St. Only 38 Stuart St is privately owned. Maintaining the Open Space zoning on 38 is important, because it signals that at some future time Manly Council intends to purchase this property as well, but if the property is spot rezoned Residential E4, then the value of the property is substantially increased, making it less likely Council will be able to afford to do so. There is another concerning aspect to the spot rezoning of 38 Stuart St from Open Space to Residential. This rezoning was not formally requested by the owners of the property, this is a free gift of a substantial rise in the value of their property to the owners of 38 Stuart St, from the Manly ratepayers, courtesy of the Manly Liberal Councillors and the Mayor, Jean Hay. The Manly ratepayers will also bear the costs of the spot rezoning, with NO benefit to the Manly ratepayers at all. Why ? is the question on everyone's lips.

13.01.2022 If the story of Little Manly can warn us about anything in this state election cycle it is this the protections for public foreshore are in the process of being dismantled. The state Liberal government has put in place the inconceivable the privatization of a primary function of government - the protection of Land Titles security. With the decapitation of ICAC, the recent law looking to convert Crown Land into Council operational land and the sell off of the Lands Ti...tle office. We are looking at the perfect storm for the complete asset stripping of the state, including foreshore land. By historical chance it falls on the shoulders of Manly residents to send a clear message to the state government that you are not happy with this. Choose a candidate that will put Manly before mates .

13.01.2022 Just around the corner from Little Manly, more publicly owned harbour foreshore land is under threat. Tomorrow at 12pm in the Drill Hall located in Cross Street Mosman, the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust will hold its public board meeting. The Save Middle Head campaign needs your support if you can spare the time to get along. Please share this information with your networks to encourage people to attend.

08.01.2022 UPDATE TO DEMOLITION OF 36 STUART STREET Manly Council General Manager Henry Wong confirmed at the most recent Little Manly Precinct meeting on 20th May, that demolition of the existing house on 36 will commence at the end of May! We are so pleased that Council has a start date. However, Henry Wong also said that it will take some time to complete, and that the area will be fenced off and shrouded during the demolition period. No completion date has been given and we will kee...p you posted with updates. On the not so good news front, despite our win in the L&E Court in October last year that confirmed that 34 and 36 Stuart Street are Community Land, Manly Council has not included any plans for this area in its draft ten year Community Strategic Plan. In the Court Judgement, Council was required to prepare a Community Plan for the use of the land at 34 and 36 Stuart St, but has not done so. A further blow is that Little Manly Precinct has not included the demolition of 36 Stuart St, the park design work or the cost of the actual work on the Park in the Little Manly Precinct budget requests for the next financial year. Save Little Manly Beach Foreshore Inc; will lodge a submission to the draft Community Strategic Plan in an attempt to rectify these omissions by the deadline of tomorrow, Tuesday 27th May.
