24.01.2022 Happy leap year everybody and a big happy birthday to me and all the lucky people born on this great day! There are some days I feel 36 and others I'm as free as a 9-year-old. Leading up to this birthday it made me think when I was 9 years old what did my parents or school teach me about money? To be honest, not much. There was no education on budgeting, taxes, loans etc. Really, my only handling of money was putting some coins into a Dollarmite account each week. ... As a kid, I was told things like, we can't afford it or money doesn't grow on trees, but I didn't understand what that meant and usually resulted in my pleading or objecting. Any parent knows what I mean. Now I wonder how my relationship with money, especially in my late teens and early twenties would have been if I was taught what I know now. To be fair old values and a lack of information didn't help. That's where we all have an obligation to ourselves and our children to set a good example. We are constantly having conversations with our kids about what's good, bad, right, wrong. So, make one of those conversations about how money is truly made and what it's used for i.e. It doesn't grow on trees, money isn't just for doughnuts and toys. Make one of those conversations on how to manage their money and what it means if they borrow some i.e. learn to budget and borrowing money comes with conditions. There's nothing I can do about my past financial decisions, but I can choose to educate my daughter by giving her something I never had; Financial education. Normally celebrating your birthday doesn't involve blog posts preaching financial education, but if there was one present you can give to me and yourself it's this. Educate yourself, educate the ones you love, and remember anything worth having in this life we want to Save, Make & Protect.

After spending the last 4 weeks helping out our preferred finance brokers it's become apparent there's a lot of misinformation and sometimes fraudulent information being promoted.
