25.01.2022 The beautiful crystal clear waters of our beloved Martha. Photo by Stu Gibson.

22.01.2022 We have world class marine coasts here in Tasmania, comparable to the Galapagos Islands where I have dived. For years I was mesmerised by the cleanliness and c...larity of the water right on my doorstep in Long and Stingaree Bays. I didn’t have to dive in to see the beauty below the surface - just below my kayak were parrot fish, stingrays and fingerlings swimming amongst swaying seagrass beds and various seaweeds. But now they are changing, we are destroying these world class coasts with salmon farming. Tassal re-established their lease at Long Bay, Port Arthur, in 2017 after the site had lay dormant for 10 years. There was no community consultation with neighbouring residents we literally woke one morning to discover the salmon pens were back. In the 3 years since the salmon pens returned, parts of Long Bay and Stingaree Bay are now cloudy and chummy - regular algal blooms, green slime and bright orange weed are choking these bays and the stench from this weed as it breaks down can be smelt from hundreds of metres away. 14 salmon pens now sit close to the World Heritage listed Port Arthur Historical Site, the Tasman National Park, the world class Three Capes Track and the award winning NRMA Port Arthur Caravan and Holiday Park. An industrial fish-farming operation with unsightly infrastructure, noise and stench inflicted upon residents and visitors to this area’s significant tourist sites and award winning eco-businesses hardly a promotion of a ‘clean green’ Tasmania. It causes anxiety because the pureness has gone. My husband proposed to me on the shores of Stingaree Bay, and we took our wedding photos there. This place means so much to us and we never take it for granted sadly the same can’t be said for the salmon farming industry.

21.01.2022 Atlantic Ambition arrived into Antigua after rowing for 39 days across the Atlantic raising funds for Surfrider Foundation Australia. What can be said - amazing adventure by amazing people. You are true Legends and beautiful people..........thank you for you inspiring leadership.

19.01.2022 Did you know Tasmania's salmon industry dumps its waste in our oceans? Do you think most people who buy it know?
