Across NSW, thousands of people, including children, are without a place to call home. Many are living on the streets, sleeping in parks, and living out of their cars. Others rely on emergency accommodation, boarding houses, and the generosity of family and friends. Some are forced to live in severely overcrowded conditions. In the mo...st tragic of circumstances, women and children are staying with violent partners because there is nowhere else to go. At the same time, many people are living with severe and chronic housing stress. This can mean there isn’t enough money to pay for household essentials including food and electricity. It can lead to relationship breakdown, substance abuse, and mental ill-health. Without a secure home it can also be hard to get a job, keep up with school, and access health and community services. #Socialhousing should be a safety net that supports people experiencing #homelessness and housing stress but there isn’t nearly enough. More than 100,000 people are on the waiting list...’

What Mr Stokes is extolling is the very thing his own government decimated in #MillersPoint #therocks and Save Our Sirius housing, sadly, has been used subtly as an instrument [for] that sort of segregation according to income bracket and that's got to be broken down," he told a Committee for Sydney forum on Tuesday... The reason it has to be broken down is that'...s not good for any of us. The government says the draft changes are aimed at simplifying planning controls to support investment in affordable housing types such as build-to-rent, co-living, and social and student housing.‘ On radio he even mentioned that it was ‘cruel’ people couldn’t live in their communities near friends and family.
