03.01.2022 SBS management have been told they must abide by an Enterprise Agreement that was negotiated back in February awarding a 2% pay rise for staff to take effect from February next year. Executives did not take a cut. Last week SBS staff reconsidered management’s request but three-quarters of staff voted against it. Management had sought to defer the pay increase to staff, citing declining advertising revenues as the reason. But that argument fell over as under the taxpayer-adv...ertiser hybrid funding model, wages are derived from government appropriations, while advertising minimally subsidises commissioned content. In April, the Australian Public Service Commissioner asked for a freeze in pay increases during the pandemic. SBS management phased out bonuses instead.
