25.01.2022 A very productive weekend thanks to our friends at Faunature and our volunteers for their help building animal boxes getting ready for the inevitable #bushfireseason . These boxes will serve to rehome animals after their rehab is successful. Check out Faunature's website at https://faunature.com.au/ to see what you can do to make your own backyard more wildlife animal friendly. The materials for these boxes would not be affordable without the funds raised from events such as ...our recent Bunnings Warehouse Australia fundraiser. . . . #proudpartner #collaboration #socialgood #CSR #proudpartner #support #socialgood #wildlife #wildlifeconservation #endangeredspecies #animals #threatenedspecies #possum #brushtail #ringtail #nativeanimal #bushfires #australianbushfires #sabushfires #bushfirerecovery #volunteer #volunteering #CSR #charity #nonprofit #community #love #ngo #beagoodhuman #helping #opportunities #givingback #giveback #socialgood #makeadifference #communityservice #helpingothers #philanthropy #fundraising #support #dogood #citizenscience

25.01.2022 Help us with your caption for this cute brushtail possum?

25.01.2022 The release into the wild is sweet and sad for our SOWFI wildlife volunteers Isn’t it lovely to see the possums explore their new world?

24.01.2022 SOWFI is affiliated with Wildlife Rescue Australia who provide our 24/7 phone service. It's an interesting job and very satisfying to be able to assist our wildlife and the caring members of public that call it in.

22.01.2022 Jahani first came into care in August with her mum who sadly died overnight. Jahani weighed a tiny 78 grams and needed expert care for five weeks, before going back to her original carer. Thanks to the wonderful work of SOWFI volunteers, Jahani is enjoying her aviary and weighing a healthy 500g with a very round tummy. What a rewarding feeling! If you are interested in becoming a SOWFI volunteer, please head to our website and join in on our next event! https://www.save-our-wildlife.org.au/events.html

22.01.2022 One of our carers tried to get some nice pictures of her wallaby joey sunbathing but he decided he was better at taking photos and needed to help.

22.01.2022 Hot weather warning The weather is heating up and so are our native animals... but you can help them find water! Put out a shallow container, bowl, dish or saucer of water For large containers, place a stick or rock in so small animals, bees and insects can get out Place this in an area where animals are protected from predators e.g under a shrub or bush... Keep your pets away so they can drink undisturbed Run sprinkler on your lawn to help keep moisture around for birds to cool off Cover pools or spas, or place something into the water so animals can get out if they fall in Please, never attempt to feed any native animals water or food by hand, call SOWFI for advice and rescue (08) 71206610 Thank you for caring for our native wildlife

21.01.2022 By saving these details in your phone, you could be saving these guys, plus others! This is Faith SOWFI are always happy for more volunteers. So many different roles, not just carers, but we need them too . You could be a transporter, rescuer, browse collector, have admin or web skills. If you would like to volunteer please head to the website https://www.save-our-wildlife.org.au/. There is also an upcoming Basic possum care course coming soon!

21.01.2022 HELP WANTED PLEASE SOWFI is running a fundraising sausage sizzle at Bunnings MtBarker on December 12th, and we need more people to help with proceedings. Anyone who can help for a few hours or even better the whole day, can you please RSVP on this form and we'll be touch soon.... https://forms.monday.com/f/cf79ff7f51faee5ad18f69ded768c94e Thank you in advance for your support.

21.01.2022 I wonder where that possum went? One naughty possum ran off during feeding time and decided it was going to join the kangaroo joeys as their food was better. The browse is always better on the other side!

21.01.2022 Basically the IKEA for Possum-BnB’s

21.01.2022 Spring is upon us! This means there are many new bird behaviours to be mindful of at this time, including the mighty magpie nesting and protecting their young. Everything you need to know about magpie swooping season can be found in this helpful article by Good Living- https://www.environment.sa.gov.au///magpie-swooping-season

20.01.2022 Some days our wildlife volunteers just need to rescue our wildlife from too many tourists taking photos. This koala escaped the paparazzi by heading into the Hahndorf Post Office. She was relocated into a beautiful big gum tree close by but away from the adoring fans.

20.01.2022 We are excited to have delivered our first 50 Wildlife Water Wells to BlazeAid at Lobethal who are partnering with us to distribute them to land owners in the bushfire affected regions of the Adelaide Hills. These have been funded by Humane Society International Australia and designed by Arid Recovery. Wildlife photo also from Arid Recovery. If you are a land owner in the Adelaide Hills and would like one please contact us or BlazeAid and send in your photos of the installed well.

19.01.2022 Another little baby kangaroo found today, on the same road as the last pinky rescued earlier in April. Someone had hit and killed the mother kangaroo and had left her without checking. One of our members stopped to check her pouch and found something very unusual, twin kangaroo joeys! Sadly one of the twins has sustained traumatic injuries and did not make it, but the remaining twin was rescued. He will be put with the other joey for company as he will be missing his mother and sister. Although there is less activity on the roads lately, there are still lots of animals needing rescue. Please don’t forget to stop and check, or report deceased marsupials on the side of the road. Our hotline is active 24/7, (08) 7120 6610

19.01.2022 What's been happening with SOWFI? Find out some of the stories here....

18.01.2022 A message from Russel... We need your help! If you're wanting to help our native wildlife, a donation of any amount may give us a second chance at life. SOWFI is a 100% volunteer run foundation, with volunteers working selflessly around the clock to care for native animals in need. A $20 donation buys a box of possum milk formula to help joeys like me survive! Thank you for supporting South Australia's wildlife

17.01.2022 Please, please, please don’t forget to check pouches of deceased animals or report them for someone to check. There are a lot of pinky marsupials around at the moment and will continue to be going in to winter so it’s critical to check. This little kangaroo was very lucky one of our members stopped to check his mother’s pouch on the way home from a night shift at work. Whoever hit Mum didn’t stop to check. He is now in care with an experienced pinky carer thanks to someone taking a few minutes out of their day to stop and check! If you find a find an orphan or would like to report and an animal needing to be check in South Australia please call us on (08) 7120 6610

17.01.2022 So great to see money in SA going to research to prevent extinctions

17.01.2022 A win-win-win conservation project - nice article by local paper The Mt Barker Courier

16.01.2022 Right now, members of the SA Parliament are deciding whether they will support proposed cutbacks to our most precious marine sanctuaries. Losing these sanctuaries our national parks in the sea will put our unique marine life, tourism businesses and local communities at risk! This critical decision now rests in the hands of just a few Members of the Parliament. We must speak up and convince them to Save Our South Aussie Sanctuaries! Send a message to SA Best’s Connie Bona...ros and Frank Pangallo today! Click on this link to do let our politicians know we care. http://www.saveourmarinelife.org.au//save-our-south-aussi/ See more

16.01.2022 Did you know SOWFI are basically a 24/7 wildlife ambulance service that covers 5,700 square kilometres! In fact last year our volunteers travelled a combined 1,000,000 Kms and then some, to rescue and move native animals in need. That's farther than to the moon and back!... If you spot any sick or injured wildlife in need, don't hesitate to call SOWFI (08)71206610 https://www.save-our-wildlife.org.au/

15.01.2022 We’re probably going to sound like a broken record, but on the way to pick up the little boy from yesterday one of our carers found yet another pinky left in his mother’s pouch! If you’d like to help please save our number in your phone and call in to report any deceased marsupials you see if you’re unable to check them yourself. We take reports of deceased animals so we can send a rescuer out to check them. If you do find an animal in need of help, please call us as soon as... possible when it is safe to do so. Please also let your family and friends know as well. SOWFI 24/7 South Australia Wide (08) 7120 6610

14.01.2022 Wishing everyone a healthy and happy 2021! We thank all of our supporters and our incredible volunteers who have continued to care through one of the toughest years.

14.01.2022 Would you like to help wildlife but are limited by time and space at home? Have you considered helping on the phone? Injured, sick and orphaned wildlife comes into care every day of the year and our 24/7 phone service is in need of some more volunteers. The commitment required is just 12 hours per week with rostered shifts available day and night at 4 hours per shift. It's a really interesting and rewarding position with calls coming in from across Australia for many speci...es of native animal, bird and reptile. You will help callers who find animals in trouble get assistance for that animal quickly using the database of rescuers, carers, vets and wildlife groups. This is the only National 24/7 Wildlife Phone Service in Australia and all training is provided. You work from home and just need a phone, internet and computer. 13.01.2022 Thanks to all the people that voted for us when they went to Grill'd Norwood. The first prize of $300 will be well spent on South Australian wildlife :) SOWFI Treasurer Amanda receiving the cheque.

12.01.2022 Can you guess what species this beautiful bird is that one of our volunteers has been able to help this week? SOWFI volunteers currently have 15 different species of native wildlife in care, including 9 species of birds! How incredible is that! If you find any native wildlife in need, please call SOWFI (08)71206610 for expert advice and rescue.

12.01.2022 What a beautiful morning for a Wildlife Food Tree planting day. Big thanks to the combined efforts of Adelaide Hills Council, Friends of Woorabinda Bushland Reserve and SOWFI volunteers and friends. We planted 200 trees and shrubs that wildlife carers will, in time, be able to "gently prune" to feed their wildlife in care at home. It will also provide added enjoyment to the visitors to Woorabinda and no doubt feed the local wildlife #saveourwildlife #createmorehabitat #conservation #adelaidehills

11.01.2022 Are you enjoying some extra time in the garden lately? The weather has been beautiful. SOWFI can help you create a wildlife friendly garden with a possum box or wildlife water well. Order online. Profits go towards providing free boxes for our orphaned joeys going back into the wild. https://www.save-our-wildlife.org.au//Backyards_For_Wildli

11.01.2022 After the devastating loss of wildlife on Kangaroo Island, it's fantastic to see the use of technology (drones, infrared cameras and AI) to get more accurate numbers of remaining animals. It is estimated around 90% of the koala population perished - from 50,000, maybe only 5,000 remain. These koalas are extra special being mostly chlamydia and retro-virus free - conditions that affect koalas in other parts of Australia including the Mt Lofty Ranges. It's a reminder that an "abundant" population can be greatly affected by just one catastrophic event.

10.01.2022 At the 715am muster today we met and handed over 50 water wells for Blaze Aid Kangaroo Island volunteers to give to landholders. The island is regenerating but so much has been lost. We have seen signs of life around the RSPCASA food stations Thanks to public and Humane Society International for supporting this valuable project.

09.01.2022 Two beautiful rescued kookaburras keeping each other company! Can you tell which one is a baby? He will be released this week! #kookaburra #australiananimals #wildlifeconservation #charity #volunteer

09.01.2022 Meet Gorgeous George George is a very strong-willed Rainbow Lorikeet, who survived and recovered thanks to volunteers Samantha and Phoebe! They had found George on Greenhill Road at Burnside, sitting quietly on the curb as cars sped past, worried he had a possible injury or flown into a car. They carefully put George into a SOWFI carrier and called SOWFI for advice on what to do next. They took George to their local Vet, who checked him over and luckily they could take him... home and care for him there. George was a real hit in the Veterinary Surgery! George perked up after a night of rest and some apples, fresh water and special Lorikeet feed. Cheeky George is now being cared for by Minton Farm! We wish you all the best Gorgeous George! You can call SOWFI 24/7 on (08) 7120 6610 for advice! See more

09.01.2022 Someone’s been caught out overindulging this weekend... I think a lot of us can relate! Did you know that a possum’s diet in care requires native food that has to be sourced fresh nearly every day? We are so lucky for our volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure their animals receive the care they need You can support a wildlife volunteer today https://www.save-our-wildlife.org.au/store/c2/DONATE.html #volunteering #charity #possum #wildlifeconservation #nonprofit

09.01.2022 Meet Fifi, a beautiful brushtail possum. Her mum fell from a tree on a stormy night and sadly passed away, but a SOWFI volunteer was able to rescue her. At 110g, she is a tiny joey who survived against the odds. Keep following Fifi's story for more updates on her rehabilitation and release! 04.01.2022 Do you want to help wildlife in need? Support our native wildlife by joining the SOWFI team as a wildlife rescuer! SOWFI have partnered with NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc (WIRES) to provide this fantastic online Wildlife Rescue 101 course. After completing the online component, SOWFI are hosting a 2 hour practical workshop. As a SOWFI rescuer, you are responsible for getting animals into the care of either a vet or wildlife carer. Rescuers are not... expected to provide extensive treatment or accommodation to animals. You can choose which native species you want to work with and which days or times you are available, providing flexibility around your existing work and family activities. If you are interested in becoming a SOWFI volunteer and rescuer, please click the link to join our online and practical workshop!

03.01.2022 Active Tree Services came to the rescue this week when two of our wildlife volunteers were in 14 days of self-isolation. Having 3 possums in care requiring fresh leaf daily created an issue but Sam in the pic here delivered!! Business opportunity for the future? Uber Eats Leaf service?? Thanks Sam and thanks Active Tree Services

03.01.2022 Native trees were planted in Woorabinda Bushland Reserve by our volunteers in May 2020 and are growing so well! These trees will provide critical food for our native wildlife. All donations will help us continue with projects like these. Thank you for supporting South Australian wildlife! #australianwildlife #volunteering #wildlifeconservation #conservation #trees #givingback #nativewildlife #nativeplants

02.01.2022 We would like to say a big "THANK YOU" to responsible cat owners. "In Australia, 1.1 million pet cats are contained 24 hours a day by responsible pet owners." Sadly there are the remaining 2.7 million pet cats 71% of all pet cats who are able to roam and hunt - killing 390 million animals per year

02.01.2022 Meet Link and Zelda, two incredibly rare brushtail possum babies who are biological twins! They are orphans to mum, unfortunately a victim of a hit and run. Both weighing under 67 grams each, they currently require 3 hour feeding around the clock. Link and Zelda have survived against all odds, thanks to the amazing work of our SOWFI volunteers. ... 01.01.2022 Sometimes koalas need to make a quick escape from the paparazzi and this one chose the post office in Hahndorf when 20+ tourists were crowding her. Our wildlife volunteer, Derek, coaxed her into a carrier and relocated her to a quiet eucalypt not too far away, but far enough from the adoring fans.

01.01.2022 Another batch of possum boxes collected today preparing for Spring & Summer and the influx of possums that are already coming in. Possums come in for many varied reasons - cat & dog attack, hit by car, displaced by loss of habitat & competition, heat stress, disease & injury, poisoning, and occasionally illegal capture and dumping. Our fantastic and dedicated wildlife rescuers and carers pick them up, get them vet checked and when they can be saved, take them into care and prepare them to be released for a second chance at life. We estimate our SOWFI volunteers will need around 200 boxes this spring alone. We would love your support to help get these cuties back to the wild.

01.01.2022 You have to love the benefits of combining technology with citizen science for wildlife recovery from the devastating bushfires :) #kangarooisland #bushfirerecovery #saveourwildlife https://volunteer.ala.org.au/Bushfire-Recovery-Projects

01.01.2022 Don't forget to join our next Wildlife Rescue course! If you are interested in learning about our native wildlife and how you can help, please come along!

01.01.2022 Southern brown bandicoots need your help! Volunteers are needed to help identify new habitat that will be suitable for the last remaining bandicoot species left in S.A.
