25.01.2022 Corporal Punishment Register for Sheep Station Creek School 14/08/1886-02/06/1941. This register covers both Schools that were on Sheep Station Creek

25.01.2022 Yesterday I attended the 100 years anniversary of the Sheep Station Creek School. If you have the time, vision and commitment, Nick Fredriksen and the Kilcoy District Historical Society welcomes your support to move forward with planning a long term project with the school building.

25.01.2022 For such in unsafe building this 2.5 tonne EWP on the dance floor made it light work to tear down the roof and walls. We still haven't had a response from the E-mail my parents sent to Council

25.01.2022 Unfortunately Matthew McGoldrick from the council who is in charge of the Hall demolition doesn't want to come to any kind of understanding or even hear any proposals I have for what's left of the hall. It's so sad that someone like this is in charge of our heritage. Please if anyone has any thoughts or ideas please post it or send them to me so I can share and act on it. As I was extremely disappointed with my phone call to our local council I have contacted Deb Frecklington...'s office and likely won't have a response till Monday. They did However tell me she is at Kilcoy Show today so I will try to catch her there. Currently with the hall the contractor has been told the floor has to come up next week and I believe Tuesday or Wednesday will start. The only way we can stop or slow that down is come up with $12,000 to purchase the floor. So far the only bonus out of today is that we have 3 weeks to relocate the School. I basically have everything set apart from spreader bars so if anyone has or knows how I can borrow 4 I beams at least 6.5m long it would be very much appreciated

24.01.2022 15th April 2019 I pulled the last stump from the old Sheep Station Creek School. 14th May 1919 it was open. If the council had of given a thought to the locals we could of seen the school turn 100 years old next month. Instead it now sits at home in a flat pack waiting to be rebuilt. Luckily the demolition company sold it to us so it could be saved. It amazes me that something with so much history seemed worthless to our local council

24.01.2022 This is a copy of the invitations sent out for the Stump Capping and Fete held on Saturday 4th April 1960 to raise money for the hall to be built. Stumps were numbered and some of the donations requested a particular number letter was written by Robert Webster Stumps were Donated by Kate Fredriksen

24.01.2022 We had a typo with the first flyer and Ian Badman's number was wrong so here is the updated flyer. Don't forget we need as much support as possible on the 11th May at the Sheep Station Creek Hall site. BBQ and soft drinks will be provided. All we ask is a donation to the Historic Society to help fund the rebuild of the school

23.01.2022 Another hurdle done and plenty more to come. After many years Sheep Station Creek Progress Association is coming back to life President: Nick Fredriksen Vice President: Rosey Webster Treasurer: Josh Hamood Secretary: Terri Rollason... Thank you all for attending See more

23.01.2022 We had the Centenary of Sheep Station Creek School on Saturday, it was a great turn out and good to hear everyone's opinions. Tomorrow the school would have had... its 100yr birthday on the plot out at sheep station creek. We would like to thank Jim Davies from The Exchange Hotel Kilcoy for donating the meat that was supplied by Adam from Kilcoy Quality Meats those steaks and sausages were delicious, also thank you to Lindsay from somerset liquid waste removal (sorry it wont let me tag you) for donating a porta loo, Kilcoy Show Society and Kilcoy RSL for your supply of marques, BBQ and display boards. To the Kilcoy District Historical Society Inc we appreciate everything you have done. Cheryl Gaedtke it was wonderful to have someone from the council come to hear us out and see the support there is from the community. And ofcourse the general public, locals and non, without your support we wouldn't be able to fight and push as we have. Every person who came and had a chat, feed and signed the visitors log, thank you!

23.01.2022 We have finally sat down with Council along with the historic society and put our proposals forward. One proposal being placed back on the original site and the other going in town at the yowie park. With a bit of work at our end we should have some answers in a month or so

23.01.2022 For anyone listening to the radio today I have reached out to Dobbo and done a story for Rural Queensland today and TripleM. Remember to save the date 11th May. We need everyone's support at the original site of the school from 10am. The school would of been 100 years old on 14th May

23.01.2022 14 May will be 100 years since this photo was taken and the centenary of Sheep Station Creek School which was unfortunately destroyed by council without notice. We are still pushing forward and will be celebrating the centenary of the School on the original site of Sheep Station Creek Hall and will also be holding a town meeting on Saturday 11 May. Further details will be published shortly so please keep this weekend in mind as we need your support

21.01.2022 This is the current status of our Hall. We had another meeting this afternoon on site with a little support from one of our own council members. At this stage we have secured the School and intend on relocating it to the Fredriksen farm to be filled with all the historical items we have which many include pieces out of the old school. The dance floor is still 100% intact and has had a 2.5 tonne work platform on it to remove the roof so we have thought of an idea of putting a roof over it and using it as a rest area with a monument. If anyone has any idea please throw them at me and share this page. The more support the better to try save what we have left. My next move is going over the head of the council guy I spoke with today that rite or wrong just wants a bare site. Any support is much appreciated

20.01.2022 Soon to be all we have left of our Hall. I spoke to the Architect about his decision and he didn't want to say much about his report. I even questioned him about the so called white ants that don't exist. Council never made him aware of the history which would of been taken into consideration in his report. When we ended our conversation his words were "I think the horse has bolted on this one"

20.01.2022 here is the building report on the hall. https://cdn.fbsbx.com//537587/doc00445920190405072430.pdf

20.01.2022 Found these little treasures all near one of the stumps under the school.1941 FLORIN and some Kilcoy soft drink caps

19.01.2022 Things have been a little quiet for us as we have been waiting for this to come through. Our committee is now officially incorporated so we can now keep moving forward to have the school rebuilt. I will keep you all informed on our progress with Council as it happens

19.01.2022 This is the building report that was put forward at a council meeting on Wednesday 23 January 2019

18.01.2022 Saturday 11th May we would love to see as many of you as possible. Start 10am. Town Meeting 1pm BBQ provided. Come share some stories and help decide the future of the School

17.01.2022 This is an email sent to council last week We haven’t had a reply. It is probably the only thing they will have any hope of agreeing to it causes minimal liability for them and it saves something of the hall Good morning Somerset Councilors I refer to the Sheep Station Creek Hall which council have in their infinite wisdom decided it is to be demolished with I might add, absolutely no consultation with the community whatso ever. We are aware of your ‘report’ that deemed...Continue reading

16.01.2022 Local Schools Past & Present #14 Sheep Station Creek School 1884 - 1942... ( formally known as the Kilcoy Provisional School until 1892) 3 acres for a term of 10 years was offered for lease by Mr. Peter Rollmann for a school to be built upon. The site was approved by the District Inspector. It was 15 miles from Neurum & approx 5-6 miles beyond Kilcoy Station on the road to Jimna. An application was made for the establishment of the Provisional School. This was sent on July 8th 1882. It would be named the Kilcoy Provisional School. The school opened in July 1884 with an enrolment of 17 children ( 13 boys & 4 girls) The first teacher appointed to this school was Joseph Wagner. He would ride 6 miles a day to school from Kilcoy to teach school. Over the years many teachers would ride their horse to school or ride a bicycle. Mr Wagner requested many times to be transferred from the school. However it wasn't until 1887 he could be transferred from this position and a suitable replacement could be found. In 1892 the name of the school was changed to Sheep Station Creek Provisional School. Mr George Bishop was the teacher at that time. In 1892 he would marry Miss Anna Ferling whose family resided in the area. In 1892 a report was written which stated that the present building is ant eaten in several places & shows a tendency to general dilapidation. It was suggested a new building would be more desirable than removing the present structure. In 1897 repairs were necessary on various items in the school room. The teacher at the time Edith Cafferky - she remained at the school for 3 years. Her wages were 70 per year. There were 15 children attending the school during this time. Discussions were had about moving the school to a more suitable location- about a mile further down the creek. This location would be more central and could then enrol up to 25 children ranging in ages from 3- 13 years. The school was not under the control of the Department. Robert Morrow Jnr (b. 1869 - d. 1939) was instrumental in getting a new school after the first school was condemned in the 1890s. Robert was the school committee secretary and his 10 children made up nearly half of the school. It took many letters of complaints to the Department from the committee, parents and teachers until they agreed a new school was necessary. The school actually closed from the end of 1912 to July 1913. In 1917 the average attendances were down to 7 5. Again there was questions on keeping the school open. Secretary Morrow pleaded with the Department to keep the school open until they got a new one. Floods & illness had been responsible for the low number of attendances. Many days were lost with flooding due to the teachers & children having to cross the creek to get to school. An open air school which was built in 1915 for the Kandanga School and no longer served its purpose - this was relocated to Sheep Station Creek as their new school. The Sheep Station Creek School was occupied on May 24th 1919. The original school furniture was transferred to the new school..the school was very welcomed by the district as they had been waiting since an approval was given in 1916. Miss Evangeline Wright was the first teacher at the new school. The committee built a play shed in 1927 at their own expense as the department refused to fund it. Teacher accommodation was supplied by families local to the area & nearby the school. After the 1920s many students attended the Rural School in Kilcoy when they reached a certain age. Boys would be taught woodwork & tinwork. The girls would be taught sewing & cooking. Each year there was a District Picnic held at the school. Pupils from Woolmar school would ride their horses cross country to attend. There was a Corporal Punishment Book - 1886 - 1913 which recorded the child's name, reason for punishment and type of punishment given. Some of those entries read.. * Habitual Behaviour & inattention to Lessons - Cane to hand x 2 * Kicking another boy in Stomach - Cane to hand x 5 * Playing in the creek after being told not to - Cane to hand x 3 * Going into creek when partly flooded - Cane to hand x 4 * Putting out tongue to teacher - cane to hand x 3 * Disobedience to orders - 3 strokes to hand * Continual carelessness with Home Exercises - 3 strokes on hand * Swearing at one of the Girls - 5 cuts on the hand * Putting his Tongue out & making ugly face - 1 cut to hand. The school was officially closed in 1942. At that time there was only 9 students attending the school. School numbers had dropped because of War. It never reopened as a School. By this time Kilcoy Town & its facilities had grown. After the school closed - it homed the Adelaide Rifles in 1942. The Memorial at Sheep Station Creek is in memory of the 2/10 Battalion who camped there in 1942. After the army no longer required the school the local committee added a dance hall to the former school. The school room was used as the supper room. In 1980 a " Back to Sheep Station Creek " 60th Anniversary was held for all families & descendants connected to the history of the school and farming district. 220 visitors signed the book of attendance. There were plans of a 100th Celebration in 2019..however this did not go as planned. NOW - It appears that the decision to dismantle the Sheep Station Creek School & Hall by Council happened without consult & knowledge to many who resided in that area. Demolition had already begun before any future solution could be sought. Nick Fredriksen along with his parents - Marie & Allan, approached the Demolition company who had been contracted by Council to pull down and remove the total structure. The family have manage to purchase the old school back from the Demolition company. The school was just 5 weeks short of celebrating its 100th year. The Sheep Station Creek School now lies dismantled and in pieces at the Fredriksen Property. A new Committee has been formed - the Sheep Station Creek Progress Ass.Inc. They are trying hard to acquire permission re establish the school at its previous location. The Association is working to rebuild the school and secure the land. On 14th May 2019 when the School should have been celebrating its 100th birthday - concerned residents and members of the community met on the recently cleared site on the Kilcoy -Murgon Road to discuss & plan its re building. A BBQ lunch was provided for all to enjoy prior to the public meeting. At this stage discussions are being held with Council re the future of the school rebuild. Many thanks to Nick Fredriksen for his information, photos and history logs . Other information and photos from Dianne Tinney & the Kilcoy State School Commemorative Issue book. - thank you.

16.01.2022 Our family has put a deposit on the old School and will be relocating it to our property "Danewood Vale" not far up the road from the original site and will be restored back to its former glory. At home we have all the documents on the building of the hall. This is the blueprint u can see in the pick. The other stuff is council letters invitations to the stump capping and donations. The hall cost 2000 to build and was built by kunde and Gaedtke. I now have the building report that condemned the hall and will post it as soon as I can. If anyone wants a copy send through your email

16.01.2022 Our wonderful Council are still at it making decisions all on their own. This is a ridiculous resolution for what has happened to a lot of the heritage on Sheep Station Creek and yet another kick in the guts for locals. As for the council saying "Council secure materials from the contractor for future possible use on Sheep Station Creek Hall site" one load of timber was loaded on a truck and taken to Kilcoy and put in a secure location. The rest was taken away by the contractor and was sworn to secrecy about the arrangement with Council over the timber. Still Council haven't come to us to resolve anything with the community and continue to make decisions among themselves

16.01.2022 Hey all. I’m doing some homework on Sheep Station Creek School North of Kilcoy which unfortunately was destroyed by our local council (Somerset Regional Council...) earlier this year just before it turned 100 on our creek without any notice or thought of significant value and heritage. This is one of 3 tenders, design and quote I found in state archives yesterday and wondering if anyone has any history on these guys. Unfortunately any building records are still unable to be accessed for some time so I’m hoping social media can help. This tender is for Kandanga Township School which was built in 1915 and was soon replaced with another building due to excess student numbers and was relocated to Sheep Station Creek in 1919 to replace the original School. We were fortunate enough to purchase the School off the demolition company and are currently trying to have the School put back where it sat for the last 100 years so any help would be much appreciated See more

15.01.2022 This morning is the last time I'll ever be able to stand on the Floor of Sheep Station Creek Hall. I have many great memories of this Hall and I'm guttered to see it pulled down because Council decided it was time to go

15.01.2022 Had a very interesting day at the State Archives today researching the old school. This is the plan drawn up after the blinds were damaged in a storm and were replaced with windows

15.01.2022 We had our first working bee today and removed the roof of the old School to be relocated to our property up the road from the original site. Still hoping someone from the council will come and see us. Some actual support from our local council with the permits we need to relocate wouldn't be much to ask as this shouldn't have happened in the first place. Thank you to Ian Badman and Ken Evans from the Historical Society for lending a hand and the local residents who showed up. I do have some news though and I'm happy to say the timber from the dance floor will no longer be sold and has been put on hold for now. When I know more I will share it with you all. We have also decided all money raised on our go fund me page will go to the local Historical society as they are helping with the move and funds to save the school

14.01.2022 Everyone please stay home as much as you can and be safe. If you are worried call your GP or 13HEALTH immediately. Everyone who gets novel coronavirus (COVID-19) will experience it a little differently, with different levels of severity and symptoms. This chart shows you the symptoms and compares them with a common cold and the flu.

14.01.2022 Good morning, please vote on your preference of where you think the school should go back. We need to know exactly what we are going to council with, we can't have a plan B for them.

13.01.2022 Another day done and dusted. It actually turns out the School opened 14 May 1919 so 100 years after it was under construction here we are pulling it down because of the council and its powers. It's all we can do to save our heritage on Sheep Station Creek because it was worthless in the opinion of the council

12.01.2022 Today marks what would have been the 101 year anniversary of the Sheep Station Creek School building. I know things have been challenging so far this year and we have not been able to move forward in achieving our goals of getting the school rebuilt but we have not given up and we will not stop until we have kicked our goals!! #sheepstationcreekschool #sheepstationcreekrebuild #sheepstationcreek

11.01.2022 Thankyou to all the emergency services and people helping to fight fires at the moment. Stay safe people. Photos taken from hazeldean rutal fire brigade facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/Hazeldean-Rural-Fire-Brigade-166175993939895/

11.01.2022 Admission Register for Sheep Station Creek School (1906-1939) once it went from a Provisional School to a State School

09.01.2022 My grandfather, Alex Arnold (centre) at the soldiers memorial Sheepstation Creek

09.01.2022 I have just received some more information on the history of the school. As we pulled it apart piece by piece it was quite clear an extension had been made on the school at some point. We now know the building was relocated from Kandanga School and an extension was done around 1915 at Kandanga. I'm still unsure of the age of the original building

09.01.2022 This is a post June and Sarah Eaton would like shared. If anyone else would like to share any memories or thoughts of the Hall or School I'm more then happy to post them

08.01.2022 SheepStation Creek Hall. (Information from the Pioneers of the Kilcoy District- Vol 3)

08.01.2022 This is how Council try and resolve the actions of the stealth demolition carried out on the Sheep Station Creek Hall and School. As for it being dilapidated and a public safety risk is only an excuse and the council only had the advice of one person. With the amount of money and poor advice this demolition has cost the rate payers everything could of been fixed for a much cheaper cost. The amount of help we had to pull down the school was exceptional and the labor spent woul...d of been all we needed to fix the issues. I spent every day talking to the contractor and was on site as often as I could. Between myself the Demolition company and all his tradesmen along with another qualified chippy we all agreed it was quite possible to save and council never wanted to listen to any of the offers I proposed including taking over responsibility of the hall. This is just another kick in the guts from council and a sign will never justify their actions or the value of history that once stood. The School would of stood 100 years next month if this never happened See more

06.01.2022 Application for Establishment of a Provisional School and Certification for Sheep Station Creek School made 1883-1884. Sheep Station Creek School number was 440

06.01.2022 Go fund me started. Please donate, we can't do this alone. https://www.gofundme.com/save-sheep-station-creek-hall

05.01.2022 Hi everyone due to the current fire situation we are flat out, as im sure most of you are. As a result we will be putting the SSCPA meeting on hold till further notice. So this Thursday we will NOT be holding the meeting as originally decided. Thankyou everyone and please be safe.

05.01.2022 This morning, as Captain Tom Moore completed his challenge to walk 100 laps of his garden, soldiers from The Yorkshire Regiment (a regiment formed from Tom's ol...d regiment The Duke of Wellington's) surprised him with a guard of honour, at a safe distance. Captain Tom Moore has raised over 12m for NHS charities

04.01.2022 Sheep Station Creek Hall, 2004 by Noela Lowien

04.01.2022 Can anyone shed any light on this document. It appears that the Sheep Station Creek School was actually relocated from Kandanga in 1919 so the School my be much older then we all thought. I have made contact with Kandanga resistance and they are looking into it. Any information would be much appreciated

03.01.2022 I believe what I have here is the names and number of the 48 stumps purchased, receipt of the 48 caps and the days labourer given. Many of the original families still to this day live on Sheep Station Creek.

03.01.2022 Sheep Station Creek Progress Association would like to invite anyone interested in attending this years AGM and becoming a member to the Kilcoy Exchange Hotel at 730pm on the 14th August. please contact Terri Rollason on [email protected] or 0413246041.

03.01.2022 Building approval for the Sheep Station Creek Hall

02.01.2022 Friday I went and seen Deb Frecklington in person at the show. She was aware of my phone call earlier that day and tried to leave the Showgrounds before I had finished. I was quick enough to catch her before she drove off only to hear she can't do anything about it or the way I felt won't do anything. Her office gave me more councillors numbers to try and almost every call pointing back to the Director behind the buildings being destroyed (Matthew McGoldrick). After my phone call with Graeme Lehmann I was then referred onto Council planning and now that the council is aware of our intentions our hope of relocating and saving the school has escalated in costs as they now want permits to relocate including transportation so it now looks like we will have to dismantle and rebuild the school to save costs.

01.01.2022 SheepStation Creek School.

01.01.2022 We are still fighting this battle till the end. Council had a meeting today and not one word from them. Tomorrow I will be at the site of the hall pulling down the school to relocate if anyone wants to come out and lend a hand your more then welcome. Any time after 8 we should be organised
