25.01.2022 Today is Threatened Species Day and we want to thank all of our supporters for making a difference to the survival of the Endangered Southern Cassowary. So far in 2020 weve purchased and protected six properties in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest that provide essential habitat for the Cassowary and weve planted thousands of trees to help them into the future. Thank you!! #SaveTheCassowary @ www.Rainforest4.org #DaintreeBuyback... #daintree #halfcut #halfcut2020 #halfcuthero #saverainforest #conservation #rainforestprotection #rainforest See more

23.01.2022 A wonderful photograph of Lot 157 Cape Tribulation Road in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest. This 8-hectare property is located in the Cooper Creek catchment. The rainforest vegetation found on Lot 157 is the grandest and most archaic of all rainforests in Australia, possessing many primitive flowering plants. This is one of the reasons the adjoining Daintree National Park was declared as a World Heritage Area. It’s just so important and special. Please help us buy Lot 157 Cap...e Tribulation Road in the Daintree Rainforest and add it to the Daintree National Park! A donation of $25 will help purchase and protect ten sqm of rainforest. 23.01.2022 Land clearing in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest for housing. This property in Forest Creek was cleared for housing development in July. When we visited we saw the rare Bennetts Tree-kangaroo on the edge of the clearing. This is a freehold property and its not illegal for the owner to destroy this World Heritage value rainforest. The solution is to buyback land and add it to the Daintree National Park. Please make a donation now to help buyback and protect the Daintree Lowland Rainforest. 21.01.2022 Weve known about this species for less than 2 years, and its already on the brink of extinction... DAINTREE RAINBOWFISH Cairnsichthys bitaeniatus... IUCN RED LIST STATUS: Critically Endangered NATIVE TO: Australia LIFESPAN: Unknown QUICK FACTS: * This species is only known to exist in the Cooper and Hutchinson creek systems of the Daintree Rainforest * Although first discovered in 2012, it was believed to be another already identified species until genetic and morphological studies revealed it to be a newly identified species in 2018. * Adults measure up to 6cm long ESTIMATED NUMBER LEFT IN THE WILD: Unknown, but a field survey in 2018 recorded a minimum of 150 mature individuals. The species is uncommon across all known sites. ENDANGERED DUE TO: * Extremely low population size and isolated populations, which could result in inbreeding and poor genetics, or total extinction if the creeks are destroyed * Introduction of non-native species * Climate change and water pollution WHAT YOU CAN DO: * DONATE to protect rainforest in the Daintree Rainforest, rehabilitate it, and protect it! The more we raise, the more Daintree we can protect, including the home of the Daintree Rainbowfish! * Share this profile and raise awareness for this critically endangered little fish! 21.01.2022 We found this Brown Pine (Podocarpus grayae) on Lot 505 Cedar Road in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest. These trees can grow up to 30 metres tall and are found in well-developed rainforests from sea level to around 1,000 metres. Podocarpaceae is an ancient family of conifers that have their origins in the supercontinent of Gondwana. A vegetation survey was undertaken of Lot 505 Cedar Road, Cow Bay and found 117 species of native plants. Please see the results of the survey he...re. https://www.rainforest4.org/survey_of_daintree_s_lot_505 Lot 505 Cedar Road was recently listed for sale and we immediately secured an option to purchase this property so we can protect it in the Daintree National Park estate. We now need to raise $120,000 with help from our partners HalfCut, to purchase and protect this special property. Please donate now at https://www.rainforest4.org/daintree_lot_505_donate The survey found all sections of Lot 505 have vegetation that has never experienced clear felling since European colonisation. 19.01.2022 A feature of Lot 505 Cedar Road is the local endemic Daintree Foambark tree (Jagera madida) which is prevalent throughout the property. This species only occurs in the lowland rainforests between Julatten Bloomfield and has its closest relatives in SE Asia being quite distinct to that of the other Australian Foambark species in being slender, often a single trunk with a handful of branches. 17.01.2022 Rewilding of the Daintree Lowland Rainforest! This picture shows what was once a road running through the heart of the rainforest. In the 1980's a developer created an 1,100-lot rural residential subdivision in the heart of the Daintree. Over 50 km of roads were built which fragmented the rainforest. 16.01.2022 Criminals have damaged our tree planting site in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest. More than 400 rainforest trees, some of them established through the donations of a ten-year-old boy who chipped in all his pocket money, have been ripped from the earth and left on the ground to die. The 400 trees that were destroyed were mostly planted by local Daintree community volunteers and others were planted by renowned gardener Costa Georgiadis. 14.01.2022 NO BRIDGE! across the Daintree River One of the primary reasons a bridge over the Daintree River is a bad idea is the impact that the lack of access has had on development north of the river. A car ferry has operated across the Daintree River since the early 1960s, and this has slowed down the rate of development. This is why pockets of the Daintree rainforest have remained relatively untouched. A bridge over the Daintree River to lead to an increase in development in this ...ecologically important area. There will be an immediate increase in traffic with the potential for the increased threats to wildlife including cassowaries. 08.01.2022 Amazing find! We have found the Endangered Cooper Creek Walnut (Endiandra cooperana) on Lot 157 Cape Tribulation Road. The Cooper Creek Walnut is a tree first identified just to the north of Lot 157. Many specimens of this Endangered species can be found on the property. Nearly all the records of this tree are from the surrounds of Cooper Creek in the lowlands of the Daintree. Its large yellow fruits are food for the equally Endangered Southern Cassowary. The preservation of... Lot 157 is important to assist in the continued prosperity of this highly localised Walnut species. 06.01.2022 We are over halfway to reaching the fundraising target to purchase and protect Lot 157 Cape Tribulation Road in the Daintree. We urgently need your help to raise a further $152,410 so we can purchase and protect this special property. Make your tax-deductible donation now at http://bit.ly/2YBpto1 If we could buy just one property in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest for conservation Lot 157 Cape Tribulation Road (pictured here) at Diwan would be the one. The endangered Cassowar...y, rare Bennett’s Tree-kangaroo, and the Musky Rat-kangaroo are all found here, however, on this 8.0937-hectare property, it's the rainforest itself that is exceptionally important. The rainforest vegetation found on Lot 157 is the grandest and most archaic of all rainforests in Australia, possessing many primitive flowering plants. This is one of the reasons the adjoining Daintree National Park was declared as a World Heritage Area. It’s just so important and special. 04.01.2022 The rainforest at Lot 157 Cape Tribulation Road is a living museum. The high diversity of 270 plant species and the presence of 12 plant species listed under conservation legislation highlights the refugial endemism of this particular forest on Lot 157. Small areas on the very wet lowlands, especially between the Daintree River and Cape Tribulation, harbour plant species which are extremely restricted and uncommon. Many areas of this ecosystem are considered refugial in natu...re and are local centres of endemism. Many representatives of primitive families of flowering plants are present, including the monotypic family Idiospermaceae. The ecosystem is the habitat for many threatened plant species. 04.01.2022 The Climbing Pandanus (Freycinetia percostata) is another Threatened species found on Lot 157 Cape Tribulation Road. It is listed as Vulnerable to extinction under the Nature Conservation Act of 1992. Please help us buy Lot 157 Cape Tribulation Road in the Daintree Rainforest and add it to the Daintree National Park! A donation of $25 will help purchase and protect ten sqm of rainforest. Please donate now at https://www.rainforest4.org/daintree_buy_back_lot_157_donate. The ...Climbing Pandanus is found in the lowlands especially in wet swampy places. It is restricted mainly to the Daintree Rainforest and again on Cape York at Iron Range and overseas in Papua New Guinea. This climbing grass-like plant possesses unique leaves that trap water and thus provide habitat for invertebrates and frogs. These microhabitats are termed Phytotelms and add to the vertical diversity of a rainforest thus providing niches in the canopy for various arboreal animals which in turn pollinate the flowers and disperse the fruits of this plant.
