23.01.2022 Why we shouldnt have a bar of it - Government mandated roll over protection for ATV/ Quad bikes. Opinion by Geoff Udy, vetran motor bike enthusiast, started se...lling bikes in 1970 and saw the first quad bike come onto the market in the early 80s. . . Ill conceived legislation and its impact on Agriculture and related industry. The result of ill-informed advice and legislation has culminated in mainstream quad manufacturers announcing their intention to cease importing ATV quads into Australia. this legislation endorsed by Michael Sukkar, assistant treasurer and minister for housing, legislates all new and used quads imported into Australia in future must be fitted with a, nil standard or specification, roll over protection device. this leaves the quality and conscionable manufacturers no option but to cease importing. An instant negative impact on primary producers and landowners. Quads are loved and depended on by most categories of primary production and cant be replaced by the, uninformed bureaucratic favourite UTV (Utility Terrain Vehicle, also known as Side by Sides). Because UTVs have safety council recognised ROPs. they are perceived to be safe by authorities with nil experience of ATVs. However experienced users know they are individual horses for courses and dont interchange utilisation very well or even safely. For instance in Escarpment country a quad is much safer than a UTV in a multiple rollover 100- 200m extreme downhill event. The ability to quickly dismount a quad on the high side or even momentarily rolled over is vastly preferable to being partially contained in a UTV via a car type harness all the way to the bottom, the occupants are doomed . We are being exposed two fold by forced usage of an unsuitable UTV in inappropriate utilisation or a quad with an unproven, nil standards or specifications semi stiletto, attached to components that are not manufactured to support such devices. These bureaucrats and politicians have over reacted to ill-informed inexperienced advisors and legislated something that the rest of the world will not have a bar of. A 2004 Victorian coroners enquiry and several since all arriving at the same conclusion, more training and awareness, encouraging helmets and discouraging children from riding adult quads. No recommendation to legislate for quad bars. Along come ACCC ,supposedly consumer pricing watchdog advising the treasurer and minister for housing to legislate against a farm vehicle/ tool that neither of them have any experience of ,making Australia a global joke! The second and most significant flaw in the entire Fiasco is the statistical numbers in Australia used to establish a problem in the first place. They have been suggesting a figure of 20 to 30 thousand quads for years. I believe there is at least twice this figure and closer to 1 million. I believe to restore some Sanity and respect for Australia a survey should be conducted that should include: 1. Working farm ,lifestyle acreage, how many acres. 2. How many quads/ how many utvs /pre 2000 models/ post 2000 models. 3. What capacity motors are preferred. 4. How many hours per day utilising utvs quads on average. 5. How many people utilise theATV/ UTV example family members /employees. 6. What is the predominant topography. flat/ rolling hills /extreme. 7. Have there been any operator injuries or death sustained on your property . 8. Ages of riders. under 20/ 20 to 40/ 40 to 60/ over 60 In a time of decreasing farm ATV deaths I believe 9 for 2019 and possibly one third of these were in UTVs the case for quad reduction has no substance. I believe we need a Littleproud /Morrison intervention to postpone enactment of this ill conceived legislation, at least until a form of electronic farm census can be carried out to accurately ascertain the per capita extent of the problem. The quad reference to death has been in some cases UTVs, and as quads and UTVs are a rural Recreation, how many are actually working farm accidents or just located in a non urban area . A quick reference to YouTube quad fails to fully realise the extent of Weekend Warrior non sanity that is part of this unjust impact and Impost on primary producers.

21.01.2022 This is happening all over Australia and if we can not amend the legislation it could be a look at the future after 10/2021

19.01.2022 I have touched on this subject before and unfortunately I am finding myself having to try to raise awareness to agenda based legislation again and this one is ...right up there. In 2021 the federal government is making roll bars on quad bikes mandatory not an option MANDATORY!! Im sure from the outset by anyone who cares for people they would applaud such a move but sadly these things are just another drive from pipe dreamers who have convinced bureaucrats to introduce something that has been under tested and will in turn cost even more lives and line some pockets with cash. Im not sure how many of you guys have ever hung a roll bar on a ride on lawn mower on a tree branch but its like DEATH at walking pace!! Imagine that at 60kph??? There are so many deaths caused by people who are untrained and just get on quad bikes and ride out of control. Sure this subject doesnt affect the average Joe but it affects a certain group significantly!! But wait until the truth comes out from the effects of this legislation that I will touch on at the end of this post!! On average over the last 8 years 16 people per year died on quad bikes. This is tragic for them and their families but no more than any fatal accident. Lets look at some other stats while we are here. Normal motorcycles on average a whopping 240- 250 per year. This is even with Q ride training.!! The humble bicycle.. on average 44 people die per year. Horse.. on average 20 people die per year. Pedestrians (You know, like walking ect) 172 people died as pedestrians last year. Now this post definitely isnt anything to do with what is more dangerous than the other but we need to have a look at what has happened with the announcement of this legislation and why. The testing for this product happened down south with unrealistic scenarios of these so called products by people who have absolutely zero skin in the rural industry or bike retail shops. The testing was done with Zero body input to counter act rolls and inclines ect. In fact Yamaha , Honda, Polaris and Can Am think these devices are that terrible they they have decided the will no longer sell quad bikes to Australia once these laws are in effect. LET THAT SOAK IN!!!!!! We will no longer be allowed to purchase bikes that have used many years of R&D from these top end companies and we will be forced to purchase Chinese ones. Yet the bureaucrats were undaunted!!! Yes all the research I can do shows the only Quad bikes being imported into this country after 2021 will be from China!!!!!!! This is kind of like making a surgeon use uncomfortable gloves! Yes good bikes save lives too!!! Is this starting to paint a picture yet??? Now I plan to push this as time and time again the ACCC is just brushed aside or they dont care especially when it involves rural and small business. We do not retaliate and we leave the door open for this rot. Im happy to work with anyone in both the retail game and Rural. (Some I have already reached out to) to push for this to be squashed for the Bullshit it is. I could easily argue we will be more at risk due to having to use poorer Quality machines and having to use Chinese crap. Please read into this not just for the roll bar on quad bike issue but how business is being done in this country. We couldnt afford this stuff pre cov19 we sure as hell cant afford it after the fact and Im hoping more people speak out how we are restricted into not being able to go forward by dodgy legislation such as this. 17.01.2022 Everyone needs to keep sharing the petition for more signatures. The goal is 40000 . There is a lot of different farming groups becoming angry about this and we are about to open the save the Quad Bike in Australia website for all information to be in one place. There will also be a survey going out soon to try and ascertain the real figures of quad bikes in Australia, we believe 185-260000 which the legislation was passed on is only half or less of the real number. Discussio...ns are also on to see if quad bike deaths can be separated from SSV/ Buggy deaths, as the 16 reported deaths in 2019 comprised of 4 farming quad accidents, 4 recreational quad accidents including one child, and 8 SSV / Buggy deaths which unfortunately included 4 children. Lack of seat belt use was the largest problem here. Once more information is gained we will start putting pressure on the MPs and Govt. See more

15.01.2022 Another step in the right direction in challenging this quad bike legislation

14.01.2022 URGENT SURVEY - OUR ATVs TO BE FILLED OUT BY 3PM TODAY 28/5. Please fill it out even if you only know these units are a useful work or recreational machine, a...nd know people who ride them but do not regularly ride them yourself. IT ONLY TAKES A FEW MINUTES. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT SURVEY THAT, IF NEW ACCC RULINGS ARE ENFORCED, WILL HAVE A LONG LASTING EFFECT ON ANYONE TO DO WITH ATVS / 4 WHEELERS IN RURAL AUSTRALIA AS HONDA AND YAMAHA FEEL THE ACCC RULING IS INCORRECT, AND IF ADOPTED, WILL WITHDRAW FROM THE ATV MARKET IN AUSTRALIA. Some issues that need to be noted are that the operating expenses, productivity and efficiency of rural Australia will be heavily impacted due to people having to use larger more expensive machines to do there every day work. From a safety aspect, ATVs are no worse and if anything safer than when the horse was the only transport around the farm. PLEASE DO YOUR BIT AND HELP US OVER TURN THESE RIDICULOUS RULINGS. CLICK ON SURVEYS AND INFORMATION BELOW. Also feel free to email me on [email protected] or call me on 0428621211 with and ideas or concerns on this ruling as I am taking this to higher levels. 09.01.2022 Comment from the website: Narelle Kelly August 6, 2020 at 5:10 pm... We live on a remote cattle station, our country is timbers and these proposed safety bars will hinder where we can operate an atv. We depend on atvs to run our business. These machines are only dangerous to the unskilled riders. I also, feel for the many businesses that will close due to having no Atvs to sell. This decision seems that most rural properties have been all put into the same category without considering the exceptions to what we need to operate our businesses. Farmsafe have advertised some realistic statistics on the numbers of accidents that occur. Accidents are just that accidents. They will never be overcome no matter how many restrictions will be put in place. We also firmly believe that the younger rural kids are introduced to riding these atvs the better, as long as they have the training, adult supervision and safety gear, we feel that 16 years of age is far too old. They will have less accidents if they are competent in riding from an early age. https://savethequadbike.wordpress.com//06/we-need-your-h/

02.01.2022 More common sense comments. Keep sharing for people to sign the petition and do the survey. The survey is already showing the numbers of quads in Australia to be at least double what the legislation was passed on. Not approx 240000 but in excess of half a million.

01.01.2022 More of Billy Geddes wonderful input.
