21.01.2022 Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds for people in Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula..., Mid North, Kangaroo Island, Murraylands, Upper South East, Lower South East and parts of West Coast, Flinders and Riverland districts. One of the strongest cold fronts so far this winter will sweep across South Australia during Wednesday afternoon and evening. The front will bring damaging winds, squally showers and thunderstorms to much of the southern half of the State. Strong to damaging northwest to westerly winds, averaging 50-70 km/h with gusts in excess of 90 km/h are expected to develop about southern coastal districts and also about the Mount Lofty Ranges during Wednesday morning, then extend across the warning area during the afternoon. For southern parts of the warning area, there is also a risk of locally destructive winds with gusts in excess of 125 km/h, associated with heavy showers or thunderstorms near the cold front. For the Adelaide area, the strongest winds and heaviest rain are likely from about mid afternoon into the evening. Locations which may be affected on Wednesday morning include Port Lincoln, Kingscote, Victor Harbor and Strathalbyn, extending during the afternoon to include Adelaide, Mount Gambier, Maitland, Clare, Murray Bridge and Keith.

20.01.2022 Check out how DNA is helping find the elusive platypus in the Glenelg River. It's not CSI - but it's pretty exciting that microscopic particles in the river can... shed light on the whereabouts of these creatures in the river. 19.01.2022 Thanks Troy Bell, Member for Mount Gambier you have stood by the Shack lessees and fought for them to retain shacks into the future and have been an integral part of this commitment along with the District Council of Grant. Once legislation changes the lessees will be able to with certainty begin the hard work to revive and upgrade these icons of the river. David Speirs MP the generations of people that are connected with these shacks are so grateful to you for keeping the promise you took to the election. We cannot wait to start!

18.01.2022 That place where no one agrees on the spelling Lake Mombeong or what we used to call Lake Bong Bong

13.01.2022 Introducing this legislative amendment is one of the final hurdles before conditional leases can be offered. Lessee's can then begin the work to bring the shacks up to the new standards with certainty due to this government honouring it election commitments. Well done David Speirs MP and Steven Marshall. Our association has put enormous effort in being ready to progress towards new leases. It will take a considerable amount of work to meet these new standards and people are willing and eager to begin.

12.01.2022 Every time I visit the Sisters sinkhole I get this feeling someone is watching me.

12.01.2022 The Glenelg River Shack Association and District Council of Grant have formed a working group to create a shack code. The code is to prepare for the upcoming assessment phase of the retaining shacks commitment that the Steven Marshall David Speirs MP Liberal Government are making a reality. We are currently writing our conceptual proposal to submit in September to outline the upgrades that shacks will make to meet contemporary safety, amenity and environmental standards. We appreciate greatly the commitment from government and support from council. These iconic shacks will have a future because of the SA Liberal government.

07.01.2022 The Crown Land Management Bill Amendment Section 78B (Leases) has just passed the upper house. This was the final hurdle holding the department back from issuing applications to apply for renewed tenure. Fantastic news for all shack sites in South Australia under current life tenure arrangements.

05.01.2022 In 1893 the Myaring Bridge was built over the Glenelg River near Strathdownie using Red Gum and Stringy Bark from the surrounding area. The bridge was built by ...Mr. Wilson for a sum of 416 pounds. It provided residence all year access across the river and also served the nearby Myaring Bridge Mine which mined limestone/carbonates. Today the 30-meter support stilts are the only remaining part of the bridge. See more

03.01.2022 Today the crown land management amendment passed the lower house. We predict a safe passage through the upper house hopefully next sitting in a few weeks. Well done David Speirs MP!
