23.01.2022 Cultural Burn Workshop at Walkabout We will be holding our first cultural burn workshop in our wildlife sanctuary on 14th and 15th May. After many years of plan...ning, when we had to evacuate all of our animals in November 2019 ahead of the Gosper's Mountain and Three Mile Fires, we decided "It's time!". We're inviting everyone in our local community. Koori and people from mobs further away. Whitefellas. Local rural landowners. Teachers. Anyone who wants to learn about cultural burning for land management. Thank you Ngurra Guril Aboriginal Corporation for being the driving force behind getting this off the ground. Thank you Yarrabin Cultural Connections for agreeing to run the workshop. Thank you all our Aboriginal friends and teachers and especially the Aunties of Mingaletta Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Corporation for supporting us. Thank you Greater Sydney Local Land Services for coordinating it all. Thank you NSW Rural Fire Service - Central Coast District for working with us to get all the approvals we need. Thank you Central Coast Council for making it possible. There are some rules to keep everyone safe. You do need to attend the full classroom workshop on cultural burning theory on Day 1 (Friday) from 10am to 3pm if you want to attend the hazard reduction burn using traditional methods on Day 2 (Saturday). You do need to be fit enough to spend a full day on your feet in the bush on uneven ground, to deal with what might be a smoky environment, and to be able to walk out along the bush tracks. The minimum age is 12, and anyone under age 18 must attend with a responsible adult and be with the adult at all times. Places are limited for safety reasons, so you do need to pre-book. You do need to pre-purchase your $10 ticket to reserve your place for this 2-day workshop. Attendees will be sent more information about times and what to wear and bring after registration and closer to the date. You can book via our website. Just choose the date 14 May then click on SPECIAL EVENTS. http://walkaboutpark.com.au//272-buying-tickets-online-bef

05.01.2022 So tired. So happy. So relieved. After 14 years fighting the threat of destruction, the Calga Valley is now safe. Aboriginal Heritage is safe. The Women's Place... is safe. Women's Smoking Ceremony and dance to heal this Place. Guringai and Darkinjung Country. Thankyou everyone. We love you all. 05.01.2022 If you want to do something totally different these holidays, how about an art workshop in a wildlife sanctuary? This is going to be such fun. Plus you get to take your own artwork home with you! You don't have to be an artist. It's great fun for everyone.
