10.01.2022 A message to clients and friends. You may be aware of the recommendations made by the commissioner at the royal commission into banking. The reason the royal commission was called was to investigate alleged unethical and criminal behaviour by certain banks. Unfortunately the banks have been given a slap on the wrist.... The commissioner has recommended to the government to cease upfront & trail payment from the banks to mortgage brokers and has recommended the CUSTOMER pay an upfront fee for the mortgage brokers services. The big banks win when the investigation was prompted by their poor behaviour! Who would have thought? This decision will see small lenders who keep the big banks honest with competitive home loan interest rates disappear as the proposal that customers will pay for the service will simply not work. A large number of these smaller lenders receive the majority of their business through the broker channel. This will create a monopoly for the big banks as the smaller lenders will simply not be able to compete. Competition will shrink.
