24.01.2022 Without any public advertising, moves are afoot to have Hobart City Council approve the removal of the requirement for there to be a 24/7 onsite staff presence at the site that was Common Ground Goulburn St. We are calling this as a lack of transparency in local and state government process and as an attempt to quietly put another nail in the coffin a social housing model that was working so well. To express your concern, email or phone the Hobart City Council Aldermen and Councillors. Their contact details are on the Council website www.hobartcity.com.au

23.01.2022 FANTASTIC that more than 70 people turned up for the Save Common Ground public meeting on Saturday. DISAPPOINTING that the Salvation Army thought it necessary to have a staff member on hand to threaten people attending that the police would be called if they walked on to Common Ground (with or without a tenant) UNBELIEVABLE that the Salvos have confirmed that is their first response to community gatherings on sites they manage. FRIGHTENING that armed police officers were also stationed nearby and on standby in case there was a civil disturbance. (ppsst - take another look at the pics of the crowd to understand just why that is so funny!). ALL THIS as a response to a community meeting called to highlight a successful social housing model has been abolished by the Hodgman Liberal Government with no explanation. WHAT'S GOING ON?

22.01.2022 "Firstly can I reassure you that while some changes will occur as Anglicare comes on board in July, for most of you those changes will be very minor." (extract from letter dated 11th January 2018 to Common Ground Goulburn St tenants from Peter White, Chief Executive Housing and Disability Reform) Just so we are all on the same page here, the changes that Anglicare will implement on July 1st include: - the team of qualified and experienced workers, skilled at supporting pe...ople living with mental health and addiction issues, will be reduced from 13 to a team of THREE male site supervisors. - a 24/7 onsite presence and security service will be discontinued and the site will only be staffed between 8am - 8pm Monday to Friday These changes will effect all tenants living at Common Ground Goulburn Street and it is very difficult indeed to see how anyone can possibly call them "very minor" ... go figure, it just doesn't add up!

21.01.2022 For your information and we hope you can come and support us.

20.01.2022 Come along and share your experiences.

19.01.2022 Well done to the City of Hobart, thank you to the Alderman/Councillors for hearing our concerns.

16.01.2022 "The State Government needs to think very carefully here. Does it really want to return to the public housing ghettos of the past? The Common Ground model has transformed lives and society. The current model must be maintained with its social mix of tenants and current levels of on-site support staff and after-hours security. People deserve a hand up."

16.01.2022 Well done to Joanne, Melissa and Liz for discussing the important issues facing the tenants at Common Ground. Have a listen. http://www.abc.net.au//break/common-ground-slashed/9844150

15.01.2022 Last night's Homelessness and Housing Forum. Well done to Jo and Hedy, and especially to Joanne Paget for asking the hard questions to Peter White.

15.01.2022 We are calling out "John Moore" and his vitriolic post that demeans the Common Ground tenants living at Goulburn Street. We are calling this for what it is - an attack on marginalised people who have the right to occupy and enjoy inner city living - let's celebrate the colour and diversity they represent.

14.01.2022 Great to see Hobart City Council stepping up to the plate and supporting Zelinda's motion

14.01.2022 Just a reminder that the Save Common Ground supportive housing community meeting is on today at 3pm at Common Ground (Barrack Street Entrance). Please show up i...f you can to express your support for this globally successful housing model. Congratulations to Liz, Zelinda Sherlock and Jo for your faith and commitment to shine a light on the decision of the State Government to axe the model without any explanation and to Viv and Lawson Ride for their personal expression of support in the Mercury today. See more

13.01.2022 Hi everyone. This morning on Will Hodgman’s facebook page there is a message from Jacquie Petrusma regarding social housing. It’s a perfect post to ask questions or add any comments you have.

12.01.2022 Tune in to Ryk Goddard's Breakfast Show on ABC936 tomorrow morning (just after the 7am news bulletin) and hear why a formerly homeless CG tenant, the parent of a low income tenant and Zelinda Sherlock, CG tenant advocate, will be attending the Save Common Ground community meeting. #yourABC #RykGoddard

12.01.2022 Although DHHS directed staff at CG Goulburn St. to call the police if people came on the premises, we still had the community meeting, thanks to the support of Artgym. A wonderful turnout from the community and supporters. Special thanks to former Premier Lara Giddings and to Andrew Wilkie - Independent for Denison. Sincere thank you to Liz Thomas and Zelinda Sherlock for advocating for the tenants and deep praise and gratitude to tenants Joanne and Melissa for having the courage to share their stories and the tenacity to challenge the powers that be. Please make as much noise as you can and pressure the State Government to maintain funding for the Common Ground model.

10.01.2022 More on the story on the ABC 7pm news tonight.

10.01.2022 Premier Will Hodgman is LIVE with Leon on Mornings.

09.01.2022 Permit breach... "Alderman Zelinda Sherlock labelled the application sneaky, and accused property manager Anglicare of not consulting with tenants or the community about the plans. I say shame on Anglicare, she said."

09.01.2022 Kirby Harris and Jo Paget are pictured sharing their stories of living on Common Ground with ABC reporter Emily Street. Watch the interviews on the ABC news 7pm tomorrow night and show your support for what they are fighting to retain at the community meeting on Saturday.

03.01.2022 Thank you Zelinda Sherlock for the opportunity for the CG story to continue to be told #hearourvoice
