18.01.2022 Hello everyone! This week, we recommend the two new wines 1. Silver Hammer Shiraz 2016 Region McLAREN Vale... Retail Price $20.00 Alcohol 14.5% Volume 750ml 8.6 STD Colour Rich purple and red in colour. Nose The bouquet is abundant with plum, blackberry and red cherries, coupled with hints of mocha and vanilla. Palate The Maxwell Silver Hammer Shiraz delivers all the hallmarks that make the combination of this variety and the McLaren Vale region so famous. The palate has an abundance of generous flavours, a rich mouthfeel with plum, vanilla and complex savoury spices. The mouth filling flavours are well balanced, full bodied with a soft finish. The result is a generous and approachable wine with excellent depth of flavour, fine silky tannins and fruit length. The winter in 2014 was wetter than usual which resulted in well soaked soils. From August to early January it stayed dry with above average temperatures. Flowering started earlier than average and the grape set was even, but our vines had low bunch numbers. Veraison started normally but accelerated with a mini heatwave early January. Throughout January, 40mm of rain fell, double the average, but very helpful to freshen up the vines. Ripening continued with warm dry days and cool nights and we started harvest with the Verdelho on the 9th February, the earliest on record. 2. Hahndorf Hill Pinot Grigio 2018 Region Adelaide Hills Retail Price $25.00 Alcohol 12.0% Volume 750ml 7.1 STD Trophy + Gold Medal - Winewise Small Vigneron Awards 2018 Gold Medal - Royal Hobart Wine Show 2018 Gold Medal - Australian Cool Climate Wine Show 2018 Made unequivocally in the racy 'Grigio' style, this wine is loaded with lip-smacking green apple and crunchy nashi-pear, all wrapped together in a luscious, juicy acidity which is laced with a hint of musk. Vibrant and stimulating on the palate with an exciting mouth-feel that demands another sip. Enjoy with all white meats, pastas, all things vegetarian and your favourite seafood dishes. This Pinot Grigio will age well for 5 - 7 years. We look forward to seeing you Cheers! Savvy Cellars 49 Civic Parade, Altona

09.01.2022 Hello everyone! This week, we recommend the two new wines 1. HUNKY DORY Pinot Grigio 2017 Region Marlborough New Zealand... Retail Price $19.99 Alcohol 13.0% Volume 750ml 7.7 STD Grapes for this wine are sourced primarily from the two Huia Estate vineyard sites in the Wairau Valley within Marlborough. The Rapaura soils are a mixture of sandy soils, greywacke stone, clay and alluvial silts. The Huia Rapaura vineyard provides richly flavoured Pinot Grigio grapes with a wide breadth of pear, apple and quince aromas and bright flavours. The Huia Winsome vineyard is situated on the edge of the Southern Valleys where the vines grow on clay. These grapes grown on the clay offer a richness and palate weight along with the fine acidity of this area. The grapes were picked, gently pressed and underwent fermentation with organic and natural yeasts with a little time in neutral oak. The wine was then bottled with minimum additions and is vegan and vegetarian friendly. 2. LA MASCHERA Pinot Grigio 2018 Region Limestone Coast South Australia Retail Price $18.98 Alcohol 13.5% Volume 750ml 8.0 STD Pale straw in colour with green hues. Aromas of red apple, jasmine and white flowers with a hint of cashew and apricot. The palate is a pretty mix of jasmine, fresh pear and baked apple with coriander and cinnamon continuing the textural mid palate. There is crunchy red apple acidity and a lingering fennel finish. South Australia is an Australian Geographical Indication (AGI - similar to the European Designation of Origin system) of wine production that covers the entire state of South Australia, Australia. Within the zones and even within the regions, there is variation in varieties and wine styles, dependent on latitude, orientation, soil, rainfall (or irrigation), and other site-specific aspects. Many of South Australia's wine regions vie for international attention as quality sources of a particular variety; but equally, some of Australia's most famous and highly awarded wines are multi-regional blends. We look forward to seeing you Cheers! Savvy Cellars 49 Civic Parade, Altona

03.01.2022 Hello everyone! This week, we recommend the wines from HELEN & JOEY ESTATE 1. 2015 Layla Chardonnay Retail Price $25.99 Alcohol 13.5%... Volume 750ml The 2015 Layla Chardonnay abides by our driving force of power, strength and elegance. Opposing elements of minerality and creaminess make this an outstanding, complex wine. The aromas and flavours of lemon pith, chamomile, just ripe nectarine and apricot are underlain by fine grained, smoky oak. The restraint on this wine suggests it will continue to age and improve in bottle. While waiting for the magic to happen, enjoy the wine now with a classic freshly shucked oysters with a dot of green apple granita. 2. 2015 Layla Pinot Noir Retail Price $25.99 Alcohol 13.5% Volume 750ml Our Layla Pinot Noir is traditionally harvested from our ‘hill’ block. The block has a shallow soil profile with, quite uniquely, a high amount of sandstone scattered throughout. The nature of the block always delivers ethereal and pretty characters in the fruit. The winemaking is conducive to the elegant nature of the fruit, and fermentation is worked in a very gentle way. In 2015 the grapes were destemmed, cold soaked and treated with one daily punchdown for 18 days. The wine sat on lees until January 2016, when it was lightly fined and bottled. The 2014 Layla Pinot Noir is ruby in colour. The aroma shows spice notes of clove and cinnamon. There are also wild green-herb notes of bay leaf and rosemary. Bright primary red fruit notes show with red cherry featuring strongly. The Palate is well balanced, showing bright red fruits such as fresh strawberry and cherry. Creamy oak notes subtly sit around the wine and seamlessly integrate with the fruit. Tannins are silky smooth and weave the palate together producing a wine that is fruit forward, complex and long. The wine is drinking exquisitely now, and it will continue to improve with time in bottle for up to 7 years from vintage. A simple yet perfect food match for this wine is a pan-seared duck breast with five-spice, and a balsamic jus. This Friday (26-10 ) 4:30 7:00pm We look forward to seeing you at the tasting. Cheers!
