20.01.2022 Step one in the creation of a new batch of our beeswax wraps... I must say collecting the different fabrics is getting a tad addictive... there are so many beautiful ones to choose from... I seem to be spending a lot of time at spotlight lately..

19.01.2022 The Next step along the journey to bring you a beeswax wrap, is harvesting the actual wax... this lot is still full of honey. It needs to be soaked, boiled and strained... melted and strained, and melted and strained yet again. It’s actually quite a long drawn out process... and you don’t end up with a huge amount of wax at the end... it melts down to a much smaller amount than expected. This is one of the reasons why raw beeswax is so sought after.. it’s not really easy to come by.. it’s so lovely to work with too... smells amazing!

19.01.2022 The final step is melting the wax. This can be done in a number of ways, but we felt using an iron gave us better control of the hot wax. (Mum needed a new iron anyway!) The baking paper over the top is the barrier between the iron and wax, although it still manages to end up all over the iron.. it also serves to keep the heat in the wax for a short period, so we can make sure the coating is even. Again, while this sounds like an easy task, believe me, it’s not. Lots of practise and sample wraps here too.

18.01.2022 Tonight’s first step is adding the two materials together. Coconut oil is smeared onto the cotton fabric to add some softness to the wax when it’s cooled, and then the grated wax is sprinkled over the top. This part is a bit tricky, judging how much wax to use before it is even melted. Too much and it cakes up on the edges, too little and the wraps aren’t coated properly. It’s taken a lot of practise, and sample wraps, but I think we are finally getting better at this part.

If you would like the address please let me know and I will PM it to you. I will post prices on here before the 15th. When prices are posted, please keep in mind these items are all hand made and most of the price is to cover the cost of materials.. I refuse to use cheap and nasty materials to make my products, so that I know you are purchasing quality... and they look better too! Hope to see you there!!

10.01.2022 Next is the wonderful task of grating the block of clean wax. Believe me, it’s not like grating cheese....!!! The block of wax is far from soft, and being wax, it tends to gum up the grater, which needs to be cleaned several times during a block. Our arm muscles are getting much stronger that’s for sure!

02.01.2022 Happy New Year everyone! Welcome to 2019! What does it hold for you? A new year means a new project for me.. I’m putting the hooks down for a while, and recycling paper for my new project, more specifically all those magazines that I have laying about the house.. Stay tuned to see the finished product.
