Freelancers are trading their skills in a global marketplace. So, it's not surprising as the global freelance economy is valued, at $1.5 trillion. When you think of freelancing, what are the skills that you think of? A writer, novelist. photographer or journalist? Have you thought of freelancing as designer, script writer, editor, administration assistant, woodcarver, painter, customer helper, article writer, posting on social media, editor, translator, business planner, designer or even simply surfing the net for answers? There are just a few of the hundreds of different skills people are freelancing. The US freelance economy alone is valued at $751 billion, and in Australia, it's a $51 billion economy. Why not take a slice of this economy for yourself. Some Key Statistics, 80% of all workers in the U.S. surveyed (including full-time employees) said they would do work on the side if it came to them to earn extra money. There are 4 primary segments for Freelancing. These include independent contractors (45% of freelancers, consultants, advisors), moonlighters (27%), diversified workers (18%), temporary workers (10%). The majority of freelancers are women (71.1%) while men comprise 28.9%. 12% of respondents were 60 or older, and 12% were in either their teens or 20s. The largest represented group in the survey was the 30 - 39 segment (26%), closely followed by freelancers in their 40s (25%) and 50s (25%), 56% of freelancers fall into the $20 - $59 per-hour range. Writers on average get $58 - $82 AUS per blog post written. Designers on average get $52 - $90U AUS per-hour range. Programmers on average get $63 - $180 AUS per-hour range. In 2016, 34% of the US workforce was freelancing their primary skills, and many are learning new skills to meet the demand from customers around the world.
