25.01.2022 IT'S A MYSTERY! CAN YOU HELP US OUT? We're looking for the book "100 years of Sugar", written specifically for Mackay cane farmers, and printed in the early 1960's. It included the photo below, taken in 1957. (The chap on the right is a very young Buzz DeThomais.) Buzz has been trying to find a copy of this book but so far has had no luck with the Historical Society, Mackay Regional Council, as well as the Canegrowers Association. We're crossing our fingers that a member of ...the community might have a copy somewhere in the back of their bookcase! There was also an exhibition at the Mackay Showgrounds in the 1960's that featured this photo along with two others. These specific exhibition photos we're kept at the Showgrounds for some years until they were taken down and stored somewhere (the location is also unknown). If you have any information that could help us, that would be amazing! Feel free to share as widely as possible. Thank you xoxoxox

24.01.2022 *** SPOILER ALERT, I ALSO HELP MAKE BUSINESS BOOKS AND I AM IN TROUBLE FOR NOT MENTIONING IT *** This week I was at a coffee catch-up (COVID safe of course) and this happened... Person: So do you just make memoirs???... Me: Actually I'm also a non-fiction book strategist. Person: A whaaaaa??? Me: I can work with you to develop the structure and content of your business/self-help books - I consult for story-boarding and chapter strategy, as well as content design. Person: Ok, but what about the actual content, do you write it? Me: Nope, YOU do. Person: But I'm not a writer! 19.01.2022 In 2015 I was asked to ghostwrite an autobiography for a well-known Australian businessman. He had an incredible life story (honestly, Hollywood worthy), and the whole book took two years to complete. Writing the autobiography was a huge, complex process, but I loved every minute of it. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond either of our controls, the book was never published. It seemed as though all was lost... until I realised that writing his book was a huge, catharti...c weight off his shoulders. Whether the public read it or not, his life was now written down, and preserved on a page. His book was a gift of truth and courage for his family and that was beautifully powerful. I decided to offer my services to people who wanted their books written, not for bookstores, but for themselves - and their children/grandchildren. Last year I hired Brittney, our Graphic Designer, and now this week, two new passionate writers have joined the team, allowing us to write more books, better and faster! The 2020 COVID lockdown gave me the courage to open my business to the world; as long as you have a good internet connection and a microphone, we can help you tell your story for future generations. 17.01.2022 Time for the next #behindthescenes installment of a Savvy Scripts Publishing Pty Ltd Full Heirloom Memoir! ps if you missed Step 1, just let me know and I'll send you the link. Step 2. Transcribe and Edit Once the initial interviews are done, we send them to REV to be transcribed. We love REV, however if you have a company that does this, please get in touch! We're always keen to spread the transcribing love around.... Here's the most fascinating thing... most transcripts make ZERO sense! Why? Because we don't talk the same way that we write. When we write, we stop and think and edit what we're saying... but when we talk, we just let it all out, warts and all. Often we change topic mid-sentence, or repeat ourselves, or use the wrong word, so when you read this on paper, it can be very confusing to follow. The good news is, this is completely normal! Everyone does it! Writing is all about building, destroying, refining, and building again, so we edit around 60,000 words of transcripts down to a 15,000-word rough draft.... then we build it back up again in STEP three - I'll tell you about that on Monday! He and I were chatting this morning about the (endless) possibilities of using Augmented Reality (AR) for corporate history and business books and honestly, my head is now overflowing with a (multidimensional) universe of ideas! As an aside, you don't need fancy glasses or a special AR reading device to experience our AR books (although those things are SUPER cool). You just need a phone or tablet (android and iP...hone)! 05.01.2022 I write a lot of posts about WHAT we do, but I don't share enough about HOW we do what we do! So, here's the first part of the #behindthescenes on a Savvy Scripts Publishing Full Heirloom Memoir! Once a client has decided that they want to start their memoir and preserve their memories for future generations, we book in their interviews. Step 1. The Initial Interview Sessions: ... For these, I spend 5 to 6 hours (over a few days or weeks), interviewing the client, and gaining as much information about their life as possible. I don't have a planned set of questions because everyone is different. I prefer to just listen and guide them through the session. (I have a background in Commercial and ABC radio so interviewing is my life.) These sessions are designed to get as much information as possible, so they're not always linear. Sometimes we go back and forth on certain topics so that I can get clarity or more information. People always find it surprising, how much they can remember! If my clients are in the Mackay region or Brisbane/Gold Coast, I conduct face-to-face interviews (COVID safe of course) otherwise, everything is conducted via ZOOM! Being online means I can interview clients around the world! #globalbusiness!!! xx Once these initial interviews are done, we move onto STEP 2: Transcribe and Edit. 05.01.2022 Helloooo gorgeous humans!!! Brittney and I have been very quiet on social media over these past few months, but trust me, we have been working overtime behind the scenes! During the COVID lockdown, we took the opportunity to really assess who we are as a business, and how we can serve our clients better... and help you to tell your story. We had a ton of O.M.G. lightbulb moments, so I've cut them down into the TOP THREE:... Lightbulb moment #1: We offered waaaaaay too many services, which made it really confusing for our clients, AND for elevator pitches: MASKED HUMAN IN ELEVATOR: Tell me about your biz... ME (ALSO WEARING MASK): Well we... ELEVATOR: *Ding time's up Yep. We needed to really cut down what we do and focus on core services and products. Lightbulb #2: Our Heirloom Memoirs are our best-seller (pun intended) because we are the experts in this field! We wanted to really focus on these and tailor our products and services to go hand-in-hand with them. Lightbulb #3: Kids 4 Kids was a huge hit, but our product was still in the BETA stage. We needed to make this even better and easier and 100% more cost-effective for everyone. So we grabbed our coloured markers, recycled butchers paper, and 27 litres of coffee, and we set to work. *cut scene to today Today, is the re-launch of our BRAND SPANKING NEW SAVVY SCRIPTS WEBSITE: www.savvyscripts.com.au Jump on the link and take a look!!! Our biggest change is that we've cut out about 80% of what we used to do! Wait. What? 03.01.2022 This morning I caught up with a lovely client, who was asking me about the different memoir services I provide. She said "A lot of my friends are really keen to get their memoirs done, but they are pensioners on a very strict budget. Do you have a smaller service that they can do? I really think it's important that they write down their story and I don't want them to miss out!" I said, "Absolutely! Budgets are super important, especially in these crazy times. I don't want an...yone to miss out, so, we have our full memoir service, (which is definitely pricey and involves our whole team) but we can also modify our services to fit in with those on a tight budget. "It doesn't matter if you need us to just get the ball rolling with an introduction interview, or give advice on your story-line, or even just to proof-read your final draft... we just want to help as many people as possible to tell their story. 01.01.2022 The hardest part about writing private memoirs is that I can't share with you, all of the amazing books my clients and I create. Just know that I am incredibly proud of the stories we write, and the history we are preserving. I'm seriously thinking of changing the name from "Heirloom Memoirs" to "Super secret books only a handful of people will ever know about." 01.01.2022 On Friday, I hand delivered Robert and Edna Cameron, the very first copy of "The RAW Truth - A Short History of the Cameron Family." With their permission, they've allowed me to talk about their book. Although it says, "A Short History", this book is incredibly detailed! It was pieced together from hundreds of pages of Bob's handwritten journal notes.... A mammoth task for myself AND Bob! Bob's book not only includes vital history about his great-grandfather's family in Ire...land but also his grandfather and father, who emigrated to Australia in the early 1900's. Bob's family owned Butcher's shops in Calen and Walkerston, as well as farming land around the region, including Valkyrie. There is some serious local history there. The book also includes detailed experiences from Bob's own life, growing up as a Slaughterman in Walkerston! This particular copy is just for Bob and Edna and their immediate family, HOWEVER, we are going to publish a slightly altered version, which will be donated to the Historical Society and local libraries. Xox I cannot stress enough, the importance of gathering and documenting the living history of families such as the Cameron's. Bob and Edna are incredible humans, who helped to shape our town into what it is today. Please share this post with as many people as possible so that we can preserve as much history as possible.
