14.01.2022 Only one driver has played his Joker in the first two rounds of the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series with two rounds completed. That is James Inglis, who star...ted fourth and finished second in the Scardifield's Smash Repairs King of Wings at the Perth Motorplex recently. Each driver can play their Joker card once during the season and they have to announce it at the drivers’ briefing before racing - this will see them double their feature race points later in the night. So instead of banking 146 points for second, Inglis left the complex with 292 points. More importantly, it has elevated him to the top of the points chase. We should point out that the release issued immediately after the race meeting didn’t include Inglis’ points from the pre-season drivers’ launch where attending teams received 150 bonus points. However he has been given those points as he, like a few other drivers, were racing that day at Ellenbrook Speedway and were unable to attend. Playing the Joker card is always a gamble - have a bad night and it is considered a wasted opportunity - have a good night, like James Inglis Motorsport - and it will pay off handsomely. Who will be game enough to play their Joker this Saturday night? Be trackside to find out. 12.01.2022 Bonza Bradford memorial 21 sleeps to go 2020 BONZA BRADFORD MEMORIAL 360/410 SPRINTCARS Pithara 7 November 2020... NO GUTS - NO GLORY Author Ken Brown Back in 1986 Ken wrote a story for Oval Track Magazine entitled No Guts No Glory about the late Ian Bonza Bradford’s battle against cancer. The article started off as follows:- EMBLAZONED on the side of the bright yellow #75 Gambler sprintcar are the words - ‘No Guts, No Glory’, and for the 27 year old pilot of that high-powered projectile, Ian Bradford, those words mean a hellva lot. The current Western Australian Sprintcar Champion has certainly displayed a lot of that intestinal fortitude over his racing career and he has reaped some of the accolades. But the battle he faces against the might of the Claremont winged warriors every Friday night pales into insignificance against the biggest fight of his life. Over the past two years the farmer from Ballidu has been literally fighting for his life against cancer, and the way young ‘Bonza’ has faced up to this ultimate challenge has won him a lot of fans. He has spent a lot of time talking to others with similar problems - especially the kids - and has given them a lot of moral support. To Ian Bradford, life is a precious thing and he intends to live each day to the fullest. He enjoys everything he does, especially his sprintcar racing. Sadly Ian Bradford lost his battle on November 7, 1992. He was just 33 years of age. For years afterwards speedway fans wore T-shirts saying ‘It’s Just Not the Same’ to honour him. The following tribute to Ian was published in Speedway Racing News in December 1992. Bonza The name says it all. Speedway followers right across the nation will be saddened to hear of the recent passing of 33 year old Ian ‘Bonza’ Bradford at the Dalwallinu Hospital. Ian Bradford was a well-respected sprintcar driver - but more importantly, a great human being. His long battle with cancer has been well documented - but throughout it all he maintained his enthusiasm for speedway competition - and for life. In fact it could be true that his positive attitude and his passion for sprintcar racing helped prolong his time with us. Ian did not want pity. Far from it. He learned to live with his problems, and actually spent a lot of time counselling other cancer sufferers, especially children. At one sprintcar presentation night during his first bout with the disease, Bradford sported a very short crew-cut hairstyle and he quipped that he was doing his bit to remove all excess weight from the racecar. The close-knit Bradford farming family have always loved their speedway racing. Ian’s father Noel, affectionately known as ‘The Big Chap’, was the 1975-76 Australian Sprintcar Champion while brothers Kevin and Barry also enjoyed shifting the dirt. Ian’s career began when he won the 1982-83 W.A. Division 2 title driving his dad’s car. He made an impressive Claremont debut - winning three of his first four feature starts. Driving for several different owners, Ian quickly developed a reputation as a hard-charging and skilled dirt-track chauffeur. He collected two State crowns and was named the ‘Sprintcar Driver of the Year’ on three separate occasions. His 19 Claremont main event successes makes him seventh in the all-time rankings and he remains the most successful sprintcar driver over the past decade. Ian’s fight against cancer began eight years ago. After seven major operations it appeared that he was in the clear. However, six months ago there were more complications and despite a trip to America, the doctors could do nothing more to help. Australian speedway is much poorer for Ian’s passing. On 7 November 2020 at the Pithara Speedway, Dalwallinu WA, we honour this great Sprintcar driver and a wonderful person that all who knew him will never forget.

11.01.2022 Taylor Milling is one of the drivers who will be racing in the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series in the upcoming season. The 32-year-old mechanic from Kalgoorl...ie will be back in the W25 for another summer of speedway. He is driving a Triple X chassis that will be powered by KRE Race Engines The W25 is owned by former racer Scott Milling with the crew chief being Tim ‘Moth’ Gleeson. Last year Milling finished 18th in the season points and had a best feature race finish of a fifth. He said his plans for this season are to race as many shows in WA as possible. We hope to see the second-generation racer in action at Rd1 Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series that will be held at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday, October 31.

08.01.2022 DIAMOND BAY JOIN FORCES WITH DPM FOR SEASON 20/21 It has been uncertain times for many race teams in the lead up to the 20/21 racing season. And for Paul and St...eve Stathy, they are in the same boat as everyone else at the present time. With their number one ace driver Cory Eliason stranded in the US among soaring Covid-19 pandemic cases, they have conceded for this season that the logistics of getting him to Australia are almost impossible. With racing now being restricted due to the pandemic, the team, like other local teams who race nationally each season, have decided that a season stint on the west coast was the answer for this year. After looking at all their driver options over recent weeks, they have been and successfully negotiated with returning hot shot, David Priolo to drive for them this season. Driving at most blue ribbon events for 20/21, Priolo is more than excited for the opportunity of driving with one of the most prestigious teams in the country. Yeah, I’m rapt to be offered the opportunity for sure to be driving for the Stathy family, he smiled. I’ve spent a lot of my career chasing the tail of the W26, no matter who the driver was, the car is always fast, so it will be good to actually sit in the seat and actually pilot the car instead. Asked if he felt any pressure in jumping into one of the most revered teams in Australia, due to their outstanding results they have achieved in recent seasons, he just smiled; It’s all good, I don’t feel any pressure at all. I want to achieve for this team and take this opportunity and make the most of it, he said. When I painted my car up in John Day colours and won, that was pressure to perform, for Team DBM, the same applies, so I’ll be out to do my best for them. The team will head to the Perth Motorplex for the annual King of Wings on November 14th for their first show, which the cars are being prepared for. Most blue ribbon events will be contended this season with some tough competition here for the season, fans can expect some fireworks from the new combination, which will certainly turn some heads. The formation of a strong partnership for season 20/21 will no doubt yield results and they will be one of the most potent outfits to watch out for on the track this season. See more

03.01.2022 Sprintcars Heat 1

03.01.2022 Sprintcar racing is a tough gig and we can see when a driver has a tough night behind the wheel. But sometimes we are not really sure exactly what is going on -... that would have been the case for fans watching Todd Davis in action in the W63 in the first round of the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series the other week. When you find out what happened, spare a thought for this guy who has poured his heart and soul into the sport. Mate I'm still trying to dust myself off and put the pieces back together from what was unfortunately one of the most trying and disappointing race weeks I've had in 24 years, Davis said. Unfortunately nothing went to script and I missed tightening a fuel nozzle line amongst the frenzy of failed new parts (diff, tachometer, power steering hose and right rear wheel deflating) which caused a fire in my first heat and a drop in engine power during qualifying. Feature race was a cluster from the start as I had no telemetry on my new tachometer, the brake pedal went to the floor from the first corner, I had the engine over-fuelled to be able to roll the bottom, the right rear tyre bleeder split an o'ring prior to the race and I hadn't worked on the set up all night due to the issues I was having elsewhere. With the track so slick I couldn't feel the right rear at all and with no brakes was in a world of pain and just fortunate to finish to be honest. Wow! It is enough to question racing, but Davis is better than that. In his own words he is too stubborn to give up - it’s not in his DNA. After a lot of prep time in the shed, he is back for another crack this Saturday night and we are looking forward to him having some good luck - and hopefully some fun. Keep the spirits up mate - we look forward to seeing it all going in the right direction this weekend. For the record Davis started from P19 and still collected some valuable points, crossing the line in 13th.
