13.01.2022 This past year was Sarah’s first as a volunteer firefighter, one that saw her on the frontline at one of the most devastating bushfires WA has seen in years at ...Wooroloo. Sarah spoke about her experience responding to the many homeowners calling 000 for assistance as the fire was fast approaching their properties. Fighting the constantly changing winds, they worked hard to protect the properties from the flames and heat. Sarah returned for her next shift to find the properties they attended the day before were still standing strong amongst the destruction, untouched. I was elated to see they had survived, pure reward for our work on the day. To know my hours out there had helped these people was fantastic. It was a confronting, difficult day, in my first year as a firefighter, but in some ways extremely rewarding. I was so proud of our brigade’s efforts. The community was amazing, they rallied around us, generating a huge sense of value in our achievements, despite the devastation. #NationalVolunteerWeek David White

With Restricted burning commencing from the 1st April 2020 please read the below information in regards to burning of garden refuse. With current circumstances we can all understand that Emergency Services or anyone for that matter should exercise SOCIAL DISTANCING and not come into contact with others unless absolutely necessary. It is therefore necessary to put in place special SOCIAL DISTANCING measures in relation to the Restricted Burning period and the issuing (or otherwise) of Permits. To limit the exposure/interaction the following conditions have been set out. 1.NO PERMITS will be issued until further notice (we encourage you to plan your burns for the open burning period when permits are not required) 2.Residents may burn if needed after 6pm so long as the following conditions are followed. 1sqm piles of garden refuse may be burnt without a permit between 6pm and 11pm ALL piles must be FULLY extinguished before midnight. (fully extinguished means no heat, smoke or steam and no white ash present where the fire was situated) and re-checked the next day There MUST be one adult person/s in attendance at all times, with running water able to reach 2 metres past any pile. Ensure smoke is managed and you notify your neighbours. NO burning if the Fire Danger Rating is VERY HIGH or ABOVE 3.Fire Control Officers will be ACTIVELY patrolling the shire to ensure burning is not occurring during the day.
