25.01.2022 Taree Tornadoes Junior Basketball Coaching applications close Tuesday, 15 August 2017. The time for action is now ! ! !

24.01.2022 To be a Taree Tornadoes junior basketball representative player involved in the 2017 Molten Waratah Northern Junior League is a wonderful experience and to reach the finals weekend with your team mates is even better. Today, six of the eight teams who travelled the journey this year reached the grand finals and congratulations to the winners. The U18 boys were first up on court and with an outstanding performance the full-time siren found them ahead of Quirindi to win 70 to 5...6. Title One ! ! ! Next up, the Taree Tornadoes U12 girls completed their undefeated run through the competition to finish over the top of the Gosford City Rebels 52 to 40. Title Two ! ! ! The U14 girls and boys hit the courts at the same time with the U14 boys also completing their undefeated run through the competition with a hard-fought win against Quirindi 58-49 (Title Three ! ! !) while the girls had another top-class game against the Coffs Harbour Suns with their opponents grabbing the honours 35 to 17. The U12 boys and U16 boys wrapped up the proceedings today with the U16 boys winning against the Port Macquarie Dolphins Blue 76 to 56 (Title Four ! ! !) while the U12 boys fought hard before falling to the red hot Bellinger Valley Braves 57 to 27. Taree Basketball thanks everyone who contributed to the Taree Tornadoes success this year and although winning is the ultimate goal, not all teams can win, so players who were in teams that didn’t taste success, you should also be proud of your efforts and improvement in the fundamental skills gained throughout the competition. Taree Basketball is filled with pride by the way all our junior representatives play the game in the right spirit and represent the Taree Tornadoes well, both on and off the court. Special mention goes to our ever-expanding band of young referees, who under the guidance of Steve Campbell, continue to improve their skills in this very important area of the sport with congratulations going to Bethany Macdonald, Grace McCallum and Ben Williams for their selection to the panel of referees who controlled the finals series this weekend. 19.01.2022 The Taree Tornadoes U12 girls’ basketball team competing in the 2017 Molten Waratah League State Basketball Cup started in fine form again this morning to defeat Camden Valley Wildfire 38-33 to head to the final with a 3-0 win/loss record through their pool games following two hard fought wins yesterday. The other pool was a dog fight between three teams to decide the other finalists and with the Maitland Mustangs, Gosford City Rebels and Hills Hornets Green all finishing wit...h two wins and a loss each, a countback was needed to the decide the matter with the nod going to Hills Hornets Green. The final saw the Taree Tornadoes register their lowest score of the year at just 24 points while their Sydney based opponents rattled up 47 points to claim the win on the main court in the Newcastle Basketball Stadium. You can be disappointed by this result or excited by the achievements throughout the year of this group of young girls from a small country association and as it’s always better to see the glass as half full, clearly the destination is not as important as the journey and although it would have been nice to chalk up that ‘final’ win at this level of play, the improvement in skills and confidence and the friendships made will still be in the memory bank long after the result is forgotten. Congratulations are extended to the Taree Tornadoes U12 girls, team staff, parents and supporters as you have carried the Taree Basketball flag deeper into this level of competition than any other previous team. 11.01.2022 The 2017 Molten Waratah League State Basketball Cup is being played across the Hunter Valley this weekend with the Maitland Federation Centre the venue for the U16 and U18 girls and boys, and U12 and U14 girls and boys going around at the Newcastle Basketball Stadium. Competition format for the State Cup sees the top three teams from Metro Division two and the winner from each of the other State based Leagues plus one wildcard team taking part in a round robin competition of ...two pools of four teams. There are no semi-finals at this event, the top two teams will progress straight through to the grand final. Taree Basketball is represented by the Taree Tornadoes U12 girls, who had a big day today to maintain their undefeated status in competitions this year. First up they took on the highly fancied Norths Bears Black and after 32 minutes of action packed basketball were on the right side of the score line at the final siren to run out winners 39 to 36. The Taree Tornadoes girls then backed up that performance with another tough battle against the Wagga Wagga Blaze to record a 65-57 win. Early tomorrow morning they play their third and final round game against the Camden Valley Wildfire and a win there will take them off to berth in the final and a very historic moment for Taree Basketball.
