10.01.2022 Strength training Vs Cardio Strength training / hypertrophy training is most beneficial for fat loss and keeping the fat off. Lifting weights may not burn as many calories straight up as cardio (eg: running/sprints, rowing machine, cross trainer) but it builds muscle, and muscle burns more calories at rest than other tissues, eg: fat. ... Because of the increase in muscle it is said that it increases resting metabolism (the amount of calories you burn at rest.) In addition, you will continue to burn calories hours after a weight training session, so in addition to building muscle, gaining strength and becoming healthier, you are also burning calories. So yes cardio will increase your cardiovascular fitness, but so can weight training sessions, especially HIIT style (high intensity interval training), it generally burns the most calories, is a super quick way of smashing out an intense workout, gets your heart rate up and blood pumping! Giving you that great endorphin hit! So if you enjoy cardio, keep going! But try incorporating some weight training / HIIT training into your workouts! The results will shock you.
