23.01.2022 Super excited to be joining the Head Above Healthcare team in Paddington as their new Clinical Myotherapist. Ill be working alongside an amazing Osteopath Lachlan and Exercise Physiologist Georgia. Starting on Monday 27th of January.

21.01.2022 ANNOUNCEMENT!!! It is with deep sadness that I must announce the temporary closure of my Myotherapy services out of Head Above Healthcare Hub due to Coronavirus COVID-19, effective Wed 25th March 2020. .. I was optimistic that with high hygiene and infection control methods, this would allow me to continue to safely treat my clients, yet it has become clear that it is irresponsible of myself to continue at this time due to the close contact nature of my work. This virus i...s a condition that we cannot see, with high incubation periods and the potential for asymptomatic carriers, which pose a greater risk. .. This was by no means an easy decision to come to, for I have been torn between staying open to help treat those who needed my help, or closing to aid in flattening this curve and reduce the spread of transmission, sacrificing my sole income as a new and small business. .. However, given the health risks and rapid growth of this virus, the need to create social distancing and self-isolation is more vital now than ever, therefore, I have chosen to protect the health and wellbeing of my clients, my family, my friends and myself by choosing to close and stay at home until further notice. .. I will be aiming to create online content during this increased isolation period to keep your brains and bodys active. I want to thank all my clients, friends and family for their support, and remind them this is not the end, this is just for now. I will be back and will see you on the other side. Stay vigilant; stay healthy! Saxon.

21.01.2022 Dry needling (DN) often gets confused with Acupuncture and vice versa, yet whilst they utilise the same microfilament needles, the theory and clinical reasoning behind the needle placement are different essentially neuroanatomical structures vs. meridians. Traditional Chinese medicine has used acupuncture for over 2500 years, whereas DN was developed back in the early 1940s. DN involves needles being inserted into muscles, skin, ligaments and tendons to treat musculoskele...tal conditions and soft-tissue dysfunction, reducing pain, increasing relaxation & bodily function. DN insertion creates micro-trauma, promoting blood-flow & changing the chemical pH balance within muscles through the introduction of fresh oxygen and nutrients, thus initiating the bodys healing process. Acupuncture, alternatively, follows the principles and theories of the meridian system, with the placement of needles aimed at restoring the bodys flow of Qi (or energy). The core belief behind acupuncture is that illness/disease is the direct result of blocked/interrupted Qi, where acupuncturists aim to improve systemic medical pathologies through needling along these blocked meridians to restore the balance and health. DN is just one of many evidence-based techniques I can incorporate into your treatment. If youre experiencing any pain and discomfort or would just like to try DN for yourself, Myotherapy can help. 19.01.2022 Lateral Epicondylalgia (aka Tennis Elbow) is a common repetitive strain injury (RSI) due to chronic fatigue and irritation of the muscles and tendons in the back of the forearm and outside elbow, causing significant pain, disability and lost productivity. Despite its nickname, it doesnt just affect those who play tennis but rather commonly found today through other repetitive movements such as computer usage and/or gripping. .. Modern research indicates that little to no ...inflammation is present in cases of tennis elbow, thus, previous treatments such as anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen merely mask pain symptoms, yet rarely fix the root cause. .. Modern treatments recommend an initial non-surgical approach including exercise and load management for strengthening, mobilisation and massage. Dry Needling has also shown to be a highly effective treatment, with two studies in 2018 & 2019 revealing high levels of improvement in subjects. .. Do you get sore, tight and tender forearms? Does it sound like you might be experiencing a case of Tennis Elbow? Book in for an assessment and treatment today! See more

15.01.2022 Dry Needling is a treatment technique that uses single-use filiform needles (acupuncture needles) that are inserted into varied layers of skin, subcutaneous tissue and muscles in order to treat skeletal muscle hypertonicity, connective tissue dysfunction and myofascial trigger points, to help reduce peripheral pain and improve bodily function. .. Dry Needling is a westernised evidence and clinical-based technique that shares some similarities yet differs vastly from Chinese ...acupuncture and has been proved highly effective in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain. .. Dry Needling involves reaching to and through a myofascial trigger point (muscle knot), increasing blood flow containing fresh oxygen and nutrients, elevating the chemical pH and provoking a brisk contraction in muscle fibres known as local twitch response. Studies have shown that local twitch responses decrease, even eradicate endplate noise associated with trigger points, resulting in their inactivation. .. Dry Needling is an extremely effective treatment for acute and chronic pain, decreased flexibility, joint dysfunction and recovery from physical activity and competition. Common conditions that can be treated with Dry Needling: Headaches Neck Pain Lower Back Pain Shoulder Dysfunction (impingement, rotator cuff strain, adhesive capsulitis) Knee Pain (Osteoarthritis) IT Band Syndrome Hip Pain Ankle Sprains Muscle Strains Tennis & Throwers Elbow Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (Runners Knee) Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (Shin Splints) Achilles Tendinopathy Plantar Fasciitis .. 15.01.2022 Text Neck Syndrome (aka Computer or Anterior Head Syndrome) refers to a repetitive stress injury and neck pain resulting from posture-related excessive use of handheld devices such as mobile phones, e-readers and tablets. Text Neck is an ever-growing lifestyle and health concern as mobile technology becomes more widespread. .. The average adult head weighs 4.5-5kg. For every 2.5cm your neck bends forward out of a neutral position, the gravitational load & stress that is place...d on your neck, doubles. 30 of head-forward tilt is 18kg of load on the neck. At 70, thats a whopping 28kg which is the same weight as an average 9-year-old! Now consider the effect on these neck muscles when you stay at that position? The longer we sit in a poor head-forward posture, the more these muscles designed to support the head upright, become weaker and weaker. .. Common signs and symptoms of Text Neck include: Neck stiffness Sharp, nagging and/or dull shoulder & neck pain Muscular weakness Headaches Radiating pain into shoulder and arms .. Do you find yourself looking down at your device for too long? Do you get a sore neck and shoulders? Do you feel your posture is off balance? Come see me for a Myotherapy consultation where I can help you with a wide array of treatments including posture correction, neck stabilisation exercises, joint mobilisations, dry needling and more... 13.01.2022 Electro Dry Needling, aka Electro-intramuscular Stimulation (EIMS) is a modified form of dry needling which utilises an electro-stimulation unit like a TENS machine to treat acute and chronic conditions such as: Sprains and Strains Muscle tightness and cramps Muscular trigger points Joint stiffness, arthritis ... Neuropathy and radiculopathy .. EIMS improves the circulation of blood and natural analgesics such as endorphins and opioids, in order to reduce pain & deliver nutrients to muscle tissue, speeding up the healing process. The combination of added electro-stimulation to dry needling has shown to extend the pain relief effect by blocking nerve pathways and preventing pain signals from travelling to the brain. .. Here we applied EIMS to the Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis tendon; the most common tendon found to be associated with Lateral Epicondylalgia (aka Tennis Elbow). .. If youre experiencing elbow pain, book in today to see me and experience how Myotherapy & EIMS help! See more

13.01.2022 Myofascial Cupping is a form of soft tissue therapy using glass or plastic cups to create vacuum suction and generate negative pressure on the skin, upregulating and promoting the bodys healing process through lifting, separation and stretching of the underlying connective tissues or fascia. Commonly used to treat musculoskeletal pain, tension and sporting injuries, Cupping may be applied statically to a fascial adhesion or can be moved in a passive gliding action to help in...crease blood flow circulation, decrease muscle hypertonicity, assist in fluid movement and encourage relaxation by stimulating the bodys parasympathetic nervous system. Interested in experiencing some cupping for yourself? It is one of a handful of soft tissue therapy techniques that I can provide... So book in for a Myotherapy consultation with me today! 01.01.2022 As a health practitioner, I have to lead by example when it comes to health and safety of myself and my clients. This is even more prevalent in recent times with the unfolding global health pandamic surrounding the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak. This infection control certificate, issued by the Australian Government Department of Health confirms that I not only understand, but am willing to maintain the highest standards to ensure the health and well-being of those who I in...teract with on a daily basis, both professionally and personally. Everyone needs to help do their part in maintaining high hygiene standards and increased social distancing, with self-isolation should you experience any flu-like symptoms including fever, dry cough, sore throat and/or shortness of breath. Stay healthy and lets flatten the curve!
