20.01.2022 its back.. back again - Wallpaper! Im going to take you back in time to when it all began.. Wallpaper, using the printmaking technique of woodcut, gained popularity in Renaissance Europe amongst the emerging gentry. The social elite continued to hang large tapestries on the walls of their homes, as they had in the Middle Ages. These tapestries added color to the room as well as providing an insulating layer between the stone walls and the room, thus retaining heat in the ro...om. However, tapestries were extremely expensive and so only the very rich could afford them. Less well-off members of the elite, unable to buy tapestries due either to prices or wars preventing international trade, turned to wallpaper to brighten up their rooms. Early wallpaper featured scenes similar to those depicted on tapestries, and large sheets of the paper were sometimes hung loose on the walls, in the style of tapestries, and sometimes pasted as today. Prints were very often pasted to walls, instead of being framed and hung, and the largest sizes of prints, which came in several sheets, were probably mainly intended to be pasted to walls. England and France were leaders in European wallpaper manufacturing. Among the earliest known samples is one found on a wall from England and is printed on the back of a London proclamation of 1509. English gentry and aristocracy alike turned to wallpaper. A very notable English man in the 1800s became not only an aclaimed poet, novelist, socialist, but one of the most recognised designers in the world for wallpaper and fabric - William Morris

20.01.2022 We are working this week in Carnegie, repainting the exterior of three units, could defiantly do with some sunshine as it is soooooooo cold out there this week!

19.01.2022 This morning I was out quoting in Camberwell where slowly the urban chic living is permeating into the classic and traditional styles. It has such a laid back leafy appeal with the inherited grandiose of Old Melbourne, yet the further you explore the area the more you appreciate the shift in eras, as you approach the bustling junction in Camberwell the shifts become very apparent. I had seven commercial properties to quote adjacent to the famous 1940s Art Deco Rivoli Cinema ...and then I was on to Canterbury only a few minutes drive from Camberwell which boosts a delicate charm of a small village for a quotation review. My day has been wonderful.. Simon on the other hand has had to work around the unpredictable weather that Melbourne has thrown at us today!

19.01.2022 We received a truely wonderful message from Nadia and Jim who's home in Greensborough we painted and have previewed; they aren't Facebook users therefore text it to me.. "Simon and Jenny not only did an amazing job painting our roof, painting the inside of our house and painting the entire outside pavement, they did it all at a very reasonable price. We were so happy with the quality of the work too! They were so pleasant to deal with and are such lovely and genuine people. T...hank you SBA Painting!" We thank them both for taking the time out to pass on their thoughts on our services and workmanship, it is very much appreciated.

17.01.2022 Wallpaper.. continued Lets fast forward to the 1960 and 70s when music was hedonistic and progressive fashion designers had their work cut out for themselves by the velocity and pace at which the industry was moving.. A trip back down memory lane for some..

15.01.2022 Last week we completed a job for a lovely client at her beautiful home in Ivanhoe (interior and exterior work), she is very private person hence no photos of the work nor a FB user, therefor she has asked us to post this on her behalf.. Thank you so very much Anne. The service provided by SBA painting was professional and efficient. Jenny was great in discussing our needs, even providing some advice with regards to wall papering, which will be very helpful in the future. Simo...n was punctual and courteous, and importantly on time and tidy! His painting work was great, and I felt confident & secure allowing him access to my home when I wasnt around. The work was completed within the time frames agreed. I highly recommend SBA to anyone needing a professional painting service for their residential properties. Anne J - Ivanhoe See more

11.01.2022 This week we are very excited to be working for a lovely mum from the Mums in Darebin Network. For those who have never heard of MID its a wonderful and very resourceful network of mums alike (and some dads..) who care and share anything from their life experiences to items in their cupboards they no longer use; many friendships can also be forged using this fabulous Network and I am very proud to be part of it. So the family of this newly purchased home have requested ...to use Low odour / low VOC paint, some of our suggestions were Dulux Enviro 2 which is an superb product and ticks all the boxes in regards to the clients requests, however another product we use is Ecolour and this again is an excellent product to work with and is zero VOC. Many thanks to all the organisers and mums in the Network, I feel very privileged to being a part of it!

09.01.2022 Jenny and I had the privilege of quoting for a lovely customer who was moving overseas recently... we were unfortunate to not have had the experience of being able to work for him, however he volunteered some very gracious feedback that we would love to share.. Thanks for coming out Jenny, it was lovely meeting you. I appreciated your commitment to quality work which came through in everything you said and did while inspecting. I look forward to receiving your quote shortly.... Thanks.... He choose in the end to go with a friend of a friend whose price was also lower, however followed up with: Feedback is: Enjoyable quoting process Attention to quality as #1 was clear, trust on that front was built very well by you personally Price is upper-mid range, which I imagine suits your business plan You just cant win every job because its a competitive space and there is a lot of differential between a low -> high price. Not all customers will be the right fit End of the day, I would have liked to use your services, it was very close. As with all lower priced things in life, I might regret it, but hope I dont. Youve got a good business from a customers point of view, I hope you keep succeeding and having fun. Thanks again We really value all our customers comments and feedback no matter how big or small, being open to suggestions and being approachable is something very important to us, we cannot improve and grow if we are not willing to listen and follow through. To quote the Greek sage Epictetus: You were born with two ears and one mouth for a reason.

For those who have never visited CERES or heard of them heres a short intro. CERES Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies, is an award winning, not-for-profit, sustainability centre located on 4.5 hectares on the Merri Creek in East Brunswick, Melbourne. 05.01.2022 so 90s.. still talking about .. chintz was apparently quoted naff. Chintzy came to mean bad taste, clutter, too much pattern and too many colours. So much so that in 1996, Ikea famously promoted its calm, modern Scandinavian look with the line, "Chuck out your chintz". Moving on.. Well they say we are heading back to the statements of the 90s, time will tell. What was fashionable then? Cordless phone, work out videos, bath beads, stencilling on walls, sponging, ragging, wallpaper borders, frills and dado rails! Yes well come back to those..

05.01.2022 The interior is now complete on this beautiful renovation we have been part of over the recent weeks with Homes of Imagination, fantastic detailing and finish. It has been a very interesting job and excellent working along side John and his extremely professional team!

04.01.2022 and taking that idea a teeny step further.... a super stunning, contemporary look.
