24.01.2022 GREENS COMMITTEE CHAIR BLOCKS DEFERRAL MOTION TO RESPOND TO COMMUNITY FEEDBACK OVER ELIZABETH ST REDEVELOPMENT The conduct of the Cr Harvey over the Midtown Precinct Redevelopment is yet another sign that some on Council see community consultation as a box to be ticked rather than a necessary and important step in the process of policy making. The proposal will remove 23 on street parking spaces from the area, and concerns have been raised by businesses including the Country ...Women's Association and the Tasmanian Aboriginal Corporation. It is clear that to the Green cohort on Council, only the views of a select few in the community deserve to be heard. 23.01.2022 Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

22.01.2022 Imagine my shock.

17.01.2022 What do you think about this proposed housing development in Central Hobart?

16.01.2022 The Intercultural Sports League Inc. Is a fantastic initiative which is fostering social connections between various ethnic groups through sport which is in its 5th year. It was great to be able to officially launch the 2020 ICSL on behalf of Elise Archer MP.

16.01.2022 What do you think? Should the Hobart City Council be doing more to encourage more residential housing projects? A new study by the National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation has found that residential housing has the second-highest multiplier effects of any industry. It found that:... Every $1 million of residential building construction supports nine jobs across the economy. Each million spent in the residential construction industry also saw $2.9 million spent across the broader economy. For each new home built, which costs on average $320,000, three jobs would be supported on average across the economy based on current costs. This is in addition to the obvious contribution to housing stock during a housing crisis, and a market so starved of supply.

15.01.2022 A code of conduct system which prevents and even punishes frank and honest debate between elected members of local government runs contrary to the very nature of our democratic system. It's times like these you need minties.

13.01.2022 That seems a somewhat inappropriate way for the Council’s Infrastructure Committee Chair to respond to community feedback... This is the attitude of the Greens to community feedback that doesn’t align with their position or agenda.

11.01.2022 This is disturbingly topical for HCC...

11.01.2022 Kicking off the 2021 year at Council with the first Planning Committee meeting. Let's hope Council can do better in its role as the Planning Authority, and existing as a roadblock to necessary development.

11.01.2022 People shouldn't be hauled before courts for speaking common-sense like Senator Claire Chandler did.

08.01.2022 Checking out the Battery Point Christmas Bloc Party, a great event put together by the Council and local residents. Check out the next Bloc Party at Elizabeth St next Saturday!

05.01.2022 The insinuation by the Lord Mayor is wrong. There is nothing wrong with planning staff advising or assisting people in submitting planning applications. In fact it is the best way to ensure good planning outcomes for our City. To suggest that staff were in the wrong to work with those wanting to build in our City is quite frankly appalling and reinforces the harmful perception of an adversarial relationship between Council and developers. Our planning staff are, and should a...lways be available for anyone wanting advice on the planning process. Listen to what the Lord Mayor had to say, as well as Alderman Briscoe's comments and my own, before the Deputy Lord Mayor silenced debate on this topic.

03.01.2022 Opponents of the recently approved North Hobart Whiskey Distillery have taken the project to the appeals tribunal. Because OF COURSE THEY HAVE. You could set your watch to this sort of thing. Something needs to change with the planning process in Tasmania or else more and more good projects like this will continue to be frustrated, delayed or blocked.

02.01.2022 Households are charged more in rates in Hobart than in any other municipality in Tasmania. Surely this is a sign that we need to reexamine our priorities as a Council so we can balance our budget without unfairly imposing the financial burden of our decisions and pet projects onto those who live and work in Hobart.
