22.01.2022 How is this guy able to do this without getting hurt? Is it because of his genes? (Probably a little bit). But it is more likely that his body is used to this load and movement and has build its tolerance over a long period of time of training. The body is amazing at adapting to load and movement over time with proper trainer.

22.01.2022 I am very excited about these classes! The aim of these classes are to improve the physical function and well-being of children. In my opinion, exercise does not have to be boring and can be done in an enjoyable way. These classes will include a variety of physical aspects including balance, movement, proprioception, hand-eye-coordination, and general strength and conditioning. Getting children into physical activity early is vital to improve quality of life and enjoy life t...o full extent. This class is targeted for children with sensory, attention, physical, psychological, or emotional challenges, developmental delay, neurological or intellectual disability. 20.01.2022 Tendinopathy _______ Signs & symptoms:... Pain; even though pain is common in tendinopathies, it is not correlated to the degree of tendon damage (Increased damage does not equal more pain). there are also individuals who do not experience pain while showing tendon abnormalities. Stiffness; mainly after prolonged static positions (e.g. sitting, lying), subsides with initiation of movement _______ Risk factors: As shown in the image there are multiple risk factors for tendinopathy. These include both non-modifiable and modifiable. The main risk factor is excessive mechanical load of the tendon (overuse). We can decrease the risk of this occurring through a gradual increase in a certain activity. E.g. slowly increase running distance over time. Resistance exercises have also shown to assist in the prevention of tendinopathy development. _______ Management: The most important component of tendinopathy management is an exercise program that focuses on the gradual loading of the tendon. Important note: corticosteroid injections and surgery are often used as treatment for tendinopathies. Both these treatments have shown very mixed results with corticosteroid injection even potentially worsening tendon healing in the long term. Due to the limited evidence for surgery as treatment for these conditions, this should be your last options as it is invasive and always comes with risks. _______ Timeline: Like all injuries, recovery is different between all individuals and will depend on many different factors (both physiological and psychological). However studies have shown that even 5% weight loss can significantly reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes and improving dyslipidaemia (lipid profile), osteoarthritis, stress incontinence, GERD (acid-reflux), hypertension (blood pressure), and PCOS.

17.01.2022 There are a lot of factors that play a role in weight gain these include both biological factors (hormones, genetics, etc.) and psychological factors (behaviour). This is however not made easy by our environment. Going back a few years food was not as readily available as it is today, therefore we had systems in place that urged us to consume high calorie/energy food as this would last longer and gave more energy. We also have a regulatory system in place that tries to bala...nce our food intake and energy expenditure to achieve the goal a goal of homeostasis (balance). However we do not live in a time where food is scarce and food is now more available than ever before. This mainly includes ‘bad’ foods (trans-fats, saturated-fats, high sodium, high sugar). Our balance system is constantly challenged with cues of these foods (advertisement, placement of certain foods in supermarkets, etc.) and research has shown that our balance and cognitive control can be very easily overridden by these cues. 09.01.2022 Great post by @namibucks. ___ Although societies awareness, understanding, tolerance and acceptance of certain condition (e.g. Depression and Anxiety) is improving, there is still a lot of misconceptions and misinformation regarding symptoms. These conditions can lead to significant struggles and sometimes disability which are often not visible to others. Like anything it can be very hard to understand something without experiencing it. ... ___ Living with these conditions can be a constant battle and treatment is not always effective. Although the conditions are conditions of the mind, they often do effect the body both directly and indirectly (e.g. behavior change). Exercise and physical activity may be very beneficial for individuals for the same reasons: both indirect and direct effects. There is plenty of evidence that shows that physical activity and exercise can have both positive psychological and physiological changes in the brain (including an increase in brain size!).

07.01.2022 Social support can be in the form of family, friends, peers or a professional. Social support can act as a motivational tool and a way of remaining engaged in an intervention. This is especially true in weight loss efforts; dietary interventions and exercise prescription are more likely to work in the long term if there is some form of social support.

05.01.2022 Very true! Also a great reason to never judge anyone! I see a lot of people that have conditions that may not be visible to others but can be very disabling (e.g. depression, anxiety, fibromyalgia, POTS, chronic fatigue syndrome and numerous others). Simple things like movement and physical activity can take an incredible amount of effort and sometimes can make there symptoms worse in the short term. 05.01.2022 Wrist strengthening exercises. A vital part of any musculoskeletal injury or conditioning is for gradual strength training. This includes wrist injuries. Wrist injuries can be very debilitating as we constantly use our hands throughout the day. The following exercises are great to use in mid stage rehabilitation when you have pain free range of motion but are still not able to fully weight bear onto the hand (e.g. push ups, high planks). They can also be useful if you are pro...ne to injuries in this area, for risk reduction. - Dumbbell wrist flexion - Dumbbell wrist extension - Kettlebell supination/pronation - Plate pinch with pronation/supination - Kettlebell wide grip with pronation/supination All movements should be performed pain-free. If they are painful these exercises may be to advanced.
