24.01.2022 Watch this space .... some new and exciting things coming here!!

22.01.2022 So this little thing has been happening over the past weeks and it has been so much fun. I now have a weekly interview on the radio with Triple M Albany, talking all things conflict! In the past 2 weeks, I have confirmed 6 radio interviews across the nation and have just loved the opportunity to help people understand how to better deal with conflict. ... Did you know that when we avoid the hard conversations we miss the opportunity for innovation, growth and change? But each of us can make a difference - we can be brave enough to have the conversations that matter. We can share the stories of conflict, little and big, and give people hope that solutions can emerge from the messiness of confusion and conflict. If you are struggling with how to start - get in touch!

21.01.2022 So apparently I love talking on radio, it is so much fun. Mostly though I feel so grateful to be able to make it ok to talk about the hard issues in life so people can find their hope, their way forward!

20.01.2022 Am very excited to announce that I have been recognised as a finalist for the 2020 Ausmumpreneur Business Excellence Award. Being a mumpreneur allows me to take responsibility for helping shape a better world. A world where our children’s curiosity, empathy and capacity to problem solve will be valued. I LOVE that this business provides the chance to help leaders embrace their power, to be brave enough to lean into the messiness of life and discover our difference don't have ...to divide us. Instead, the conflict challenges that impact us all can actually provide an opportunity for growth, innovation and success. With the impact of COVID-19 on business, families and individuals, running my own company has enabled me to be present for my kids and my family and still invest in my business. With a husband in the forces, flexibility is key and I feel blessed to be about to work in an industry that I am passionate about and still balance the needs of my family. It is tough but rewarding. A huge thank you to those who continue to support me along the way - my family, my friends and you, my community! I am also super excited because I am sharing this category with two other amazing locals Karen McDermott & Aly Bannister! #ausmumawards

16.01.2022 Money Blues - how to avoid fights when talking money. It’s all about the money right? Did you know that money so often drives conflict in families, business and even community groups? Yep, it’s one of those conversations that too often cause fights between normally well-behaved people. With the release of the budget from the federal government and all the analysis in the news, now is probably a good time to take stock and get comfortable with learning to talk money. ... Understanding why these conversations can be hard is a good place to start because once we understand our fears and barriers we are better able to make good decisions. Here is a link to my latest interview with Triple M Albany exploring why talking money can be so hard and some tips to help you talk money without fighting! https://www.triplem.com.au/search?q=Sarah%20Blake

04.01.2022 I often get asked, "you must be good at dealing with your kids as a mediator?". My answer - yes and no! The truth is complex - yes I bring lots of negotiation and conflict management skills to the table, but I am also just a mum doing her best on good days and bad. Sometimes I'm too soft, sometimes I don't listen and sometimes I parent really well! On bad days you will hear me yelling at the kids to 'listen' (yes I cringe as I do it) and on good days I find myself teaching t...hem skills that I know will help them grow into really great men. One of the recent quotes from my youngest has been "mummy, you're not helping the problem". I try really hard not to giggle at him - but I am so proud too! When they are getting upset or frustrated I find myself saying - "it is ok to feel sad or angry (insert emotion), but we can't stay this way forever. What can we do to help fix this problem?". Some days it works and other days they just can't hear it. Like life really. It is ok to feel deeply - upset, frustrated, angry; but at some stage, we need to learn not to let this drive our decision-making. Taking responsibility for outcomes can be hard, painful and messy - rarely perfect. But if you focus on moving forward, solutions and opportunities often you are able to shift your mindset.

02.01.2022 Are you ready to take your life to a whole new level? Are you passionate about empowering collaborative leadership that aligns people, profit and peace? I am on what some would call a crazy mission, but if passion, learning and contributing to a more peaceful world is something that inspires then you will probably want to read on.... I know that many of you have followed my work and are passionate about transforming your lives in the areas of decision-making, problems solving and dispute resolution. Recently I announced the launch of my brand new community to help you to do just that. We launch in just 2 days time, come and join us right here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/engagingbravely

02.01.2022 A friend recently shared this link and what a beautiful story to uplift and celebrate. Congratulations to Peggy for her recent award. Watching this connects me back to the Kimberley, and I miss it. It is such an ancient, powerful land and I love how Peggy describes the weaving together of stories. Of generations coming together to share, celebrate and preserve their culture. It is a powerful message for all our communities - we each have stories that weave together and make ...us brighter, stronger and deeper. Our stories connect us - even in their diversity. https://www.facebook.com/watch/

01.01.2022 So just had the great privilege of presenting to 1300+ people registered from across the globe for the MediateGuru mediation workshop tonight. The topic "Practical Peace-making and Justice Empowering mediators to engage with people not just facts"... I love the chance to talk to new and emerging lawyers about mediation and how important it is to create the opportunity for justice for those who might otherwise be left behind.

01.01.2022 In my first ever university class my lecturer said that our role as Anthropologist was to question the taken for granted assumptions of society. Fast forward and this curiosity and questioning of assumptions, has remained a critical skill both in my professional life and as I engage in the community in the years since. It's not always easy to be the one to ask the hard questions.... The trick is to do it in a way that doesn't diminish the other person - be curious, not forceful. In fact, there are still occasions when I have to set my spine, take a breath and speak. But without doing this we stop learning, we stop growing and we stop. So if you are wondering how to nurture this skill - I have a four-year-old with plenty of questions to share! (like mummy why is his hair so long?)
